Sore Thumbs? Zeemote Controller Now Available for BlackBerry

Posted on 27 August 2009 by

The Zeemote JS1 Controller is marketed as a mobile gaming controller — although I don’t think you’ll be raising your BrickBreaker or Texas Hold ‘Em scores with this device.   Up until now, the Bluetooth controller has only been available in the UK — but those of us in North America can now get a Zeemote from ShopBlackBerry for a mere $39.99.  Yep, $39.99…yeeeeee-ouch!

Now, you can do a bit more with the remote than  just play games.  You can control device menus, applications like media, mapping, and the web browser — and you could (as the team over at BB Cool recommended) use it as remote camera trigger to grab some photos.   I just have doubts as to how well this product is going to do given the price and the functionality.  I also don’t know any avid BlackBerry gamers.   Maybe it would be fun to use on someone else’s BlackBerry — so you can control the menus — I’m just not sure that running joke would be worth a whopping $40 bucks.

Here’s a video of the Zeemote in action.  Watching the users playing games with the Zeemote, it doesn’t look too intuitive to use — and even less fun :(

Non-BlackBerry users in the UK can jump in on the fun since the company manufactures remotes for mobile phones from  Nokia, Samsung, and LG, to name a few.  Check them out at Zeemote.com and, if you have $40 to burn, purchase the BlackBerry Zeemote at ShopBlackBerry.
