Summer is slowly coming to a close here in the U.S.  That means time for school and looking ahead to the Fall  (and lots of exciting tech news and product releases for the upcoming holiday season).   Even Gear Diary is taking some time to learn some new tricks.

Apple fans had an exciting week with the release of Snow Leopard, Facebook 3.0, TextExpander Touch, a peak at the new Pocket Informant and some augmented-reality fun with Yelp .  In all the excitement you may have forgotten to make sure your software will remain compatible (and snow leopard is also safe for all of our the jailbroken iPhones out there).

BlackBerry users got their own on-device music store, while Android got some Mobile TV love — I even hear it works over 3G and Wi-Fi ;) .   There’s always a lot going, so let’s kick back and take a look at just a bit of what you may have missed…

Travis continues to show the best (and some of the cheapest) iPhone apps available with the Blue Plate Special series.  If you need to send messages out to large groups of contacts at one time, you should definitely check out ABContacts.

A year ago you would be frustrated in your search for good navigation software for your iPhone — not anymore.  Members of the Gear Diary have been testing out some of the very best offerings, and this week was no exception as Chris Gavula put iGo My Way through it’s paces.

Doug’s “30 Apps in 30 Days” for the Palm Pre is in the home stretch.  Whether you’re wanting to play a game, keep track of your mileage, or find a date — it looks like Palm has some apps for that, too.

Now, before you hit the beach for one last hurrah be sure to check out Dan’s review of the  Gorillapod and Gorillamobile.   Then, if you’re really brave you can do what Mitchell did in the video above and take your iPhone out to capture some real action on the water (Disclaimer:  Gear Diary is not responsible for drowned iPhones …always use protection! :D ).
