Posted on 21 August 2009

This toilet bowl shaped speaker draws power from your USB port as well as a rechargeable Lithium ion battery. The 3.5mm audio connector will interface with pretty much any standard audio jack which means you can connect iPods, iPhone’s, CD players, notebooks, PC, etc. Literally hours of fun as you and your buddies make endless stupid jokes about the crappy sound. SlingPlayer 1.1 for iPhone approved

Posted on 20 August 2009

Now available for download in App Stores everywhere… the mildly anticipated update to Sling Media’s SlingPlayer for the iPhone OS. Why mildly? Because still missing is 3G support, even in non AT&T service areas. There are some goodies, however. Added is support for wide, full screen mode, remote access for Dish Satellite users and a speedier interface. Nice but I’ll keep holding out hope for that 3G version. SlingPlayer for the iPhone is available in the iTunes App Store here. Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Simplify Music– Is This A Taste Of Things To Come?

Posted on 20 August 2009

I’m a huge fan of Simplify Music. This simple but powerful iPhone app allows you to
access your entire iTunes music library, as well as share libraries
with up to 30 friends. Setting up an account is simple. The two-part system requires a program to be
running on your Mac, PC or Linux computer as well as the iPhone or
iPod touch application.

Once you sign up and sign in the
application indexes your library. After that, so long as you have a data connection, no matter where you go you have
access to all your music. In other words, with this application my 32
GB iPhone has access to my 60+ gigabytes of music as well as Larry’s,
Wayne’s and a number of other friends music libraries.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

With ShakeItPhoto, Tomorrow’s Not the End of the Polaroid

Posted on 20 August 2009

Anyone who grew up in the 70s and 80s will fondly remember the magic of taking a picture with a Polaroid camera, and then watching the image as it gradually developed and appeared. I remember seeing people blow on their freshly taken pictures, while others would shake them back and forth – all things that were supposed to make them “develop faster” – even though they were completely unnecessary steps. Polaroid cameras are a huge part of our Pop culture, the cameras or their pictures have featured prominently in more movies than I can recall (No Way Out, Sixteen Candles, Memento, Amelie, RoboCop, St. Elmo’s Fire, Clueless, Lost In Translation, and Diamonds are Forever – just to name a few), the cameras or pictures themselves are featured in songs (“shake it like a Polaroid picture!“), music videos (Heart Shaped Glasses), and Andy Warhol used them extensively as part of his creative process. Tomorrow marks the beginning of the very end. “700 hand-numbered kits containing a deadstock Polaroid ONE600 Classic camera and a pack of Type 779 film” will be available to purchase at Urban Outfitters stores in North America and London along with extra packs of the 779 film. Have I been blacklisted by Rebel Scholar?

Posted on 20 August 2009

As you may know there has been a bit of controversy regarding iPhone case maker Rebel Scholar. It all started when I reviewed one of their cases and was a bit critical. (I also commented that I very much liked the other.) From there it went from bad to worse – I received a lawyer’s letter, threats of being sued, others voiced their opinions on YouTube. Well that’s not the end of the story. A new chapter was written last night. I’ll share the facts and timeline and, without offering comment, let you draw whatever conclusions you wish.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Woot.com adds Kids Woot to the mix

Posted on 20 August 2009

It’s something I do every single day, without fail. I grab my morning coffee, settle down in front of my computer, fire up my browser and check Woot.com for the deal of the day. Don’t know what Woot.com is? Woot.com is an online store and community that focuses on selling cool stuff cheap. It started as an employee-store slash market-testing type of place for an electronics distributor, but it’s taken on a life of its own. Woot sells one item, per day.  That’s right, only one. Sometimes the item is quirky, sometimes it’s completely useful. In addition to the main site, Woot has launched a few sub… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
