Get your retro on with the new iPod Speaker from USBFever!

Posted on 18 August 2009

We all love our iPods for portability and music on the go … but sometimes you want to share your music without lugging around something huge. I’m sure many of us remember lugging around a boombox and a box of cassettes back in the 80′s! USBFever seems to recall those times also and has just the thing – a new iPod speaker shaped like a classic boombox!… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Quick Apps – AniGif

Posted on 18 August 2009

Here is a good example of an application which is kind of interesting if you have a first or second generation iPhone, but not all that practical if you’re using an iPhone 3GS . aNiGif lets you take a series of pictures one after the other and then put them together as if you’re flipping through a book of pictures  to create a slide animation or creating a stop-action movie. So … will we see that PS3 Slim Today?

Posted on 18 August 2009

Over the last few days the rumor mill around the long-rumored PS3 Slim has gone into over drive, fueled by two things: – Speculation based on supposed leaked KMart pre-order infomation (from Engadget). – Rumors that the system will be on display at the Cologne GamesCon on August 18th (i.e. today!) The PS3 has had loads of rumors around it for the three years since it launched at a shockingly high $699, most related to price drops – and most incorrect. However, Sony has clearly been pushing hard to drive down the manufacturing costs of the PS3 in hopes of shoring up floundering sales. However, one difference this time – since the revelation of the… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Is Windows Mobile dead?

Posted on 18 August 2009

Windows Mobile 6.5 is coming this fall, and Windows Mobile 7 is coming in 2010. But is it too little, too late? According to Jack Gold in Businessweek, Microsoft should exit the smartphone market and cede the enterprise world to RIM. Microsoft has taken something of a beating in marketshare lately, but is it so bad that they should throw in the towel? Personally, I think it’s far too early to declare any OS gone; we’ve got revamps of Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Symbian and Android, not to mention the ongoing yearly iPhone updates! What are your thoughts? Is Windows Mobile ready to ride quietly off into the sunset like the classic Palm OS… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Look Ma, No Hands… Using Jott Instead Of Typing

Posted on 17 August 2009

Using The iPhone To Get And Stay Organized – Part 2- Jott In part one of “Using The iPhone To Get And Stay Organized“ I did a full review of reQall. While I love its powerful features and low price… it is always good to have choices. And Jott, well let’s just say Jott has a few neat tricks of its own. Yesterday Larry and I were emailing back and forth a bit… but neither of us were doing much typing. No, instead we were using Jott. With Jott you can select someone as a “Favorite”, tap their name, speak for up to 30 seconds and then… well there is no “and then”… The app sends the voice note to its servers, transcribes it and then sends it to the recipient as an email. Let’s take a look. Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Posted on 17 August 2009

Time to take a look at another game for the Palm Pre, Blackout.  Sadly, this is number four of five.  Like many of the other games available for the Pre, it is a good concept, but an underwhelming exhibition of what this platform can do.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Review: Navigon MobileNavigator for iPhone

Posted on 17 August 2009

A few weeks back I got a chance to take a look at the “Lite” version of Navigon – a version without turn-by-turn routing.  Now I’m back to take a look at the full North American version of Navigon MobileNavigator. Navigon, as one of the world’s leading navigation software companies, has a leg-up that is perhaps only matched by a few competitors like iGo (especially in Europe) and Tom Tom (who have yet to relase their iPhone product).  In the past, I’ve worked with Navigon on Windows Mobile, so let’s take a closer look now at the iPhone version!… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Review: Resident Evil 4 for iPhone

Posted on 17 August 2009

Back in early 2005 Capcom released the latest iteration of the Resident Evil series. The franchise had lost much of its luster as ports of the beloved original PlayStation games seemed to be just milking the franchise for cash. Fortunately,Capcom not only remembered what the series great, they also kept up with the trend of making large changes in each new release. Subsequently, Resident Evil 4 is the highest rated game and the best selling since the original title. It was successfully ported to the PS2 and Wii consoles, and also got an atrociously lazy port to the PC. Now it comes to the iTunes App Store … well, sort of. Let’s take a look!… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Snow Leopard Shipping Soon??

Posted on 17 August 2009

I saw, but can’t remember where, that Apple’s Snow Leopard, OSX 10.6 might be shipping as early as 28-Aug-09. While most people might think that’s nothing more than rumor, and it truly might be, I have reason to believe that if its not on 28-Aug-09, then its going to be shortly after that.
