Protect Your Gear With BodyGuardz: iPhone 3GS Review

Posted on 08 August 2009

Unlike our Gear Diary friend Larry Greenberg, I only have one case for my iPhone 3GS, and am not sure how much I like carrying it with a case.  The case for me has been primarily for protection.  Yes, I found a case that I think looks cool, but I do not care for the added size of my phone.  There are many cheap clear films to protect your gadget, but few work very well.  I carry my iPhone in my front pocket and love to use it in the size and shape in which it was produced.  I recently installed a BodyGuardz clear protector on my 3GS.  Is it really clear?  Did it hold up?… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Yup, There’s An App For Crap, On The iPhone

Posted on 08 August 2009

Apps apps and more apps. The App Store is a hit! While there are so many amazing apps in the App Store we all know there are also an astonishing number that are… well, if we are going to be blunt… CRAP. The proliferation of fart apps was bad enough. 100 fart sounds… 500 farts sounds… even an app for 5000 body sounds. Who comes up with this crApp??? More recently we’ve seen numerous apps that show scantily clad women as the iPhone goes soft-core. (A number of us had a good time ranting on one earlier in the week… post coming soon.) And then there is the app we learned about today… it takes crApp Apps to a whole new level. The Poo Log… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Plantronics Discover 925 Bluetooth Headset – $42.99

Posted on 08 August 2009

The Plantronics Discovery 925 is not a new bluetooth headset but it has a reputation as a good one. What Judie liked in her July 2008 review was the ability to pair the device with two headsets at once (multi-point) as well as the stylish appearance and the case which also doubles as a portable charger. Gearsponsor Logicbuy has spotted this little devil on sale for the relative bargain price of $42.99 (Ceris aka purple or gold colors). Logicbuy – Plantronics Discovery 925 Gold or Cerise Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Livescribe Pulse Smartpen Tidbits

Posted on 08 August 2009

I’m as big a fan of the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen as ever . The incredible device records pen strokes (so long as you use their special paper), records whatever is said and even syncs the text with the recording so you can see AND hear what was going on at any given moment. No matter where I go I always bring my Pulse and a notebook along. It is THAT useful. The Pulse is an ideal device for the student or for the professional who is headed back into a busy season after a period of summer quiet and there are two developments related to the Pulse that are worth noting.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

GPush for iPhone brings push Gmail – sorta

Posted on 08 August 2009

I’m going out on a limb and proclaiming it totally crazy that push mail notifications of any type are still news on the iPhone platform. Yet here we are in August 2009 and I’m getting excited that finally there’s an application that provides real time notification when I receive an email in my Gmail account. Never mind that it only works for one Gmail account or that you STILL have to click on your regular mail client to open and view the mail. Maybe by 2010 there will be some fully integrated Gmail push love for the iPhone. Until then grab GPush for .99 and bring half a Gmail push solution to your iPhone. GPush Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Palm Pre App Catalog: 30 Apps in 30 Days. Part 8: Flixster

Posted on 08 August 2009

Yesterday, we started our two part look at movie listing apps on the Palm Pre with Fandango.  Today, we will wrap that up with a look at Flixster.  To be honest, Flixster and Fandango are pretty similar apps, with one giant difference.  With Fandango, you can actually purchase tickets straight from your phone.  Flixster does not have that option, it only allows you to view information about the movies and listings.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Moving Back to Windows from Mac: Why I made the Move to Mac

Posted on 07 August 2009

photo credit: Nightlife1970 I bought my first modern Mac in February, 2008, a 15″ MacBook Pro. At the time I was frustrated with the laptop I owned – a 17″ Toshiba X205 – which was running Windows Vista Ultimate in what seemed like a most underpowered way. I was tired of being told that there were no drivers yet available for my gear, I was tired of seeing notifications pop up asking me constantly if I was sure that I wanted to do something, and I was basically ready for a change. It didn’t help that I had already seen Mitchell and Vincent‘s MacBook Pros, and I was swooning over the hardware. In all honesty I also felt a bit left out, because I didn’t know anything about the Mac OS other that what I had experienced in the late 80s (which hardly counted), and I certainly wasn’t immune to the praise heaped on it by friends who had been converted. In other words, I wanted to see what all the hype was about.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

2009 Chevy Aveo5: no movie star but worth a look

Posted on 07 August 2009

Chevrolet Aveo has been the anchor at the entry level for Chevrolet for quite some time now and is a carry over of GMs relationship with Korean automaker Daewoo. For 2009, Aveo receives a good deal more attention that began on the sedan model last year. This little econo-cruiser gets a more powerful engine, the 1.6L Gen 3 Ecotec, as standard in all models, delivering more horsepower but with the same fuel efficiency found previously.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

ooma Free Home Phone System Gets Unboxed

Posted on 07 August 2009

Wayne got his ooma  Free Home Phone System back in March and did a full post on it, then he posted a special deal on the ooma the other day. I was looking for a new phone system that would reduce my monthly expense and, if need be, be somewhat portable since we spend part of the year elsewhere. I ordered it and… two days later it is here. The system includes both the ooma Hub and an ooma Scout. More information on ooma’s site. Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I love me some convergence!

Posted on 07 August 2009

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times.  The thing I love about my iPhone most of all is the fact that it takes the place of more than once device. Same for my Griffin Simplify dock/usb hub/card reader and same for my iHome iP99 clock radio/dock. Here comes another potential device to add into the mix.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Parasync iPod station is perfect for Jon & Kate plus 8

Posted on 07 August 2009

Here’s an interesting device that offers up an interesting dock and sync solution for households with a LOT of iPods all fighting for the same connecting cable. With the capability to simultaneously dock up to 20 different iPod devices and have each show up individually in iTunes – this is nothing short of amazing. No word on cost or whether all of the iPods can re-charge and undoubtedly even though they show up in iTunes you still sync one at a time. Slashgear via Gizmag Continue reading on Gear Diary …
