In some ways it is hard to believe that Good Old Games is already a year old, and in other ways it feels like they’ve been around forever. Good Old Games has quickly become a sensation, selling classic games as DRM-free digital downloads guaranteed to work in Windows XP or Vista – all for $5 – 10! To celebrate their first anniversary, they are offering the very same special that launched the service – buy one Interplay game, get another one free. Interplay was one of the first two publishers to join the site (the other was Codemasters), and is responsible for classics such as Fallout 1 & 2 among many others.

“Looking back at the first year, I think we can say it’s been a really successful time for us – we’ve added lots of great publishing partners and amazing games. But we couldn’t have achieved any of that success without the fans who support us in so many ways. We decided to say thank you to our fans and run this promo,” said Adam Oldakowski, Managing Director of GOG.com. “We know there are still a lot of things to improve and a lot of games to be revived, but we’re just starting and the future is looking really bright for us. We have some big announcements lined up for fall and winter, so be sure to keep an eye on GOG.com.”

The promotion is running until September 8th, and most of these games will run on just about any computer – I run many of them on my netbook! So if you have any interest in DRM-free, classic games, head on over today!

I have loved technology for as long as I can remember - and have been a computer gamer since the PDP-10! Mobile Technology has played a major role in my life - I have used an electronic companion since the HP95LX more than 20 years ago, and have been a 'Laptop First' person since my Compaq LTE Lite 3/20 and Powerbook 170 back in 1991! As an avid gamer and gadget-junkie I was constantly asked for my opinions on new technology, which led to writing small blurbs ... and eventually becoming a reviewer many years ago. My family is my biggest priority in life, and they alternate between loving and tolerating my gaming and gadget hobbies ... but ultimately benefits from the addition of technology to our lives!

By the way some of the Lucas Films games and more will work in Linux under SCUMMVM. Heck some of these even work on Android or any platform that has SCUMMVM!

    I love gog.com!

Yeah – LucasArts stuff isn’t on GoG, but they have put some stuff on Steam as I mentioned before. I also remember playing Sam & Max and Full Throttle on Palm and Pocket PC PDA’s via SCUMM ports … sweet stuff!

It is interesting how other companies are getting in on the ‘good old games’ theme – GamersGate and Direct2Drive and Steam and Impulse all have a selection of older games for cheap money. An older Russian RPG called ‘Evil Islands’ came up in a discussion the other day and I found it for $9.99 at GamersGate … it isn’t great, but it is decent fun and well worth the money.
