Today is day twenty-five the of HP and Microsoft’s ‘Back to School and Better Together’ Giveaway, which means that it’s finally our turn to begin our giveaway.

Up for grabs is a computer combo containing an HP dv6, an HP Mini 110 and Syncables software – which allows you to keep the larger laptop at home but carry the smaller netbook (synced and carrying all of your data!) when on the go. The Winner will also get a customized Gear Diary Timbuk2 bag to carry their loot!

hp_better_together_microsoft

You’ve had 24 separate chances to win a similar prize package up until now, but this is your shot to win with us…and here’s how to do it:

First, you must register so that you can leave a comment on this site. WordPress may or may not decide to kick your comment into moderation. Don’t freak out if your comment doesn’t post right away, and don’t leave a second one; I will approve your entry / comment ASAP.

In ONE comment, you must answer these two questions, and post a link to prove that you have fulfilled the required task:

1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?

2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

Next, complete the following and include a link to the completion’s proof in your comment / entry.

- Follow GearDiarySite on Twitter

- Tweet the following, and include a link proving that you did it:

“Back to School and Better Together with HP, Microsoft, Timbuk2 and @GearDiarySite!

That’s all there is to it.

The rules:

Our contest is open from 12:01am CST September 5th through Midnight CST September 9th.

1. We will be awarding everything to one person.

2. Anyone, anywhere in the world, is welcome to enter. HP will cover worldwide shipping and any associated US income taxes. If you live in a country that doesn’t easily allow HP to deliver, they will work something out with you so that you are still a winner.

3. If you have already won one of the HP Back to School and Better Together Giveaways on another site, then you are not eligible to win again on Gear Diary.

4. Winner will be chosen by the Gear Diary Editors and me; the winner will not be randomly chosen.

5. I will announce that there is a winner at Midnight CST on September 9th, but I will not specify who it is just then. We will actually be choosing three – read on to see why…

6. Put judie @ geardiary .com in your address book NOW. I will email the winner shortly after choosing one, and if I have not heard from him or her within 24 hours (I will post the time when the first email is sent, probably sometime early on the 10th), I will email the next person on my list. Don’t suffer remorse for the rest of the back to school season because your spam filter ate my email, and you missed out!!! :-(

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

1.) Currently the configuration for my desktop is as-
    15 inch CRT monitor
    128 mb RAM
    40 GB hard disc
    CD ROM
    Intel Celeron processor
    Windows XP.

2.) Owing this package would definitely change my whole life, being a college student I would be able to do my stuff(Using Visual Studio and photoshop) in home instead of spending time in the college computer center and so would be able to spend more time with my family.I would be able to do my work more efficiently and fastly and would be able to submit all my assignments in time. These laptops

It’s a Compaq Presario with a 2.8 G Celeron processor and 2 G of RAM. It runs on Windows XP home edition. It belongs to my husband (we’re separated) but he’s letting me use it for now.

I’m going to college, in the Web Technology program. I use Adobe products, which barely run on this computer. Winning the laptops would give me a computer I could take to school and do my work on, without having to transport on a USB drive. I could take it to work, as well. I’ve tried to get them to install Photoshop on the computer I use so I could be more efficient, but they say it’s not in the budget. I could use my own copy of Photoshop at work. Then for fun, I could play Sims 3!

    1. It’s actually a really old Compaq Armada E500. Its running on 128GB RAM and 12GB harddrive. It barely functions and doing research takes YEARS.

    2. Well, first of all, I’m a freshman Math Education Major and I’d be able to just do my homework in probably a quarter of the time. I’d be able to install programs like Mathematica and Microsoft Office 2007 on it to help with my homework. I’d use the laptop for all types of major essays and projects and then the netbook I’d take to class and type up my notes way faster. Then when I got back to my dorm I’d use the syncables software to sync the devices together and load my notes onto the laptop for further reference. Then I could keep them with me in my future career as a math teacher!

I messed up. Its 128 MB RAM. Hahah. Oops.

    1. I’m using a desktop which I bought for $400 about 4.5 years ago.
-It has a dual core 2.66ghz but is the first generation dual core from intel so no speed step or other improvements the core 2 branded ones got later on.
    -17 inch lcd
    -1gb ddr-266 ram
-onboard graphics and sound running windows xp.

Not too bad of a setup for the price I paid, and not as bad as other entries I assume. For my lectures (I am a 6th year university student) I use:
-a 5 year old Asus S5N laptop which has 256mb micro-dimm ram (obsolete) and windows xp. Onboard graphics.

    2. My S5N laptop developed an overheating issue from being so old and can not stay quiet without being scaled back to 200mhz. In lectures people stare at me because my laptop sounds like a jet fighter ready to take off. I’m SO embarrassed of my laptop. I don’t mind the weight or the speed but I am horrified of the noise. I would really like to be able to sit in class comfortably for once and not have the computer between my legs for more ventilation. Having more than 2 hours of battery life would be nice too since I have at least 6 hours of classes per day! The desktop is fine but I can’t take that with me to school obviously. I would love to try using a new operating system though because looking at windows xp for almost 10 years now is starting to make me throw up. With this package I can replace both computers and windows xp. Laptops also use less electricity than desktops (about half as much from my own googling) so I would be saving money and helping the environment. A worthy cause I think!

    1) Following are the system Specs
    Compaq Presario 6000 Series
    Processor & Speed AMD Athlon XP2000+ 1.67GHz
    Ram 384 MB
    Hard Drive 40 GB
Optical Drive DVD Rom + DVD Writer
Integrated Sound, Video, Network Card on MB
    17″ CRT Monitor

2)I am currently working on Project For my Engineering studies , using Matlab 2008 as the Tool for developing the project , Since my Processor does not support sse2 instruction set , i am forced to go to friends place to for the project to code it ( Object Recognition using SIFT Algorithm).. Also the Hp dv6 , is far more powerful system and i could fulfill the projects which are on hold for eg :

    1) I customize OS such as removing few to builtin features to make a Liter version of XP , Vista .
    2) I also need Operating System virtualisation so as to test the Final product (Operation System).
    3) I also engage in video and audio editing for helping out my friends .
    4) The visual Studio projects are also on hold because of low system Specs..

As i advice to people on some of the tech forum and blog @ turbinetech.blogspot.com , a netbook would be helpful to provide advice and blog on the go otherwise which is only possible once a day.

3)Here is the link to the tweet http://twitter.com/turbine_07/status/3775314243 .. and following geardiary with Username turbine_07 . I am starting to get hang of it , i may starting tweeting :)

My family of 5 are using a Toshiba Intel Processor T4200 with a 15.4″ display and 3GB memory, 320GB HDD with windows vista.
This would help my family out so much. We all have to use the same computer and it doesn’t work out all the time. My kids use it for instant messaging and their school homework/school tutoring website. I use the computer for looking up information and working on a blog. I have to admit that the Toshiba is nice but doesn’t run like I would want it too. I just wish that we could afford another computer for my girls to share. This would make our lives so much easier. I can’t take my computer away from them all the time because the internet is what will help them achieve their goals as far as writing term papers and looking up things they need to know. They are already just as smart as me on the computer and I want them to be much better. This could really help me achieve this goal that I have set out to do. In a few years everything will be all about the internet and I want them to start out now. Thanks for letting me enter your giveaway.

    1. My current desktop pc is has.
pentium dual core E2160 processor @1.8Ghz, 2 GB ram, 40 gb HDD, an intel 945 gc graphic motherboard. a supermulti DVD writer +-rw, An old floppy drive. 17″ samsung crt monitor. RUnning windows xp , Ubuntu and windows 7 IN multi boot. I love testing os, and running them.

    2. That bundle could help me very well , being a computer science student I need both notebook and netbook. I need a good powerful notebook for programming, creating graphics, CAD designs. And some amount of video editing , photoshop etc. Working with game graphics and high textures and Direct3D programming requiring both high power processor and intensive powerful graphic card. Which i currently don’t have at all. and have to wait for lots of time during programming games to work with them with my current pentium 4 dual core system. Running matlab like computing softwares gives trouble too. Using visual studio and all is really slow, and takes too much time.

Both video editing and 3d graphics creation requires lots of hdd space this notebook will really be useful. Currently i clear up my harddisk before starting a new graphics developement. MOre intense is running graphics and games on the system, Which im learning to program. Its not only tough programming but requires very fast computer hardware to work with. Rendering, modeling high textures and graphics almost kills my current desktop. each time it hangs for 10 mins around. Other than that i have normal system requirements too. Multitasking heavy applications and graphic design software is like a 1000 kg of load on a donkey. due to which the machine crumble.

THEN there is the netbook, which i require for usual task of taking notes in classes, working with internet and music listening , document editing and printing etc. that would be great piece of thing in my hand since ill be able to do surfing on the go inside my college. work live with internet and google search while programming for better reference and learning. Availability of High amount of resources for programmer is like iceing on the cake, internet while taking classes in college and programming would be really wonderful.

Even more Valueable is the Syncronization software with it, For a person like me copying data from one computer to another is a lot of mess. and sometimes hrs of work. these companion bundles will allow me to save days work inside the bigger better laptop for more working. Syncronization all my learning and working with my home pc , allowing me to work both at home and college without bothering to copy anything. This will make my work experience better allowing me to continue my college work at home and home’s work at college. great piece of software.

These r the most of the things i would do , If i get the laptop. I already do editing and programming, but I use a pen drive for working in college and then come home and use that usb stick to continue my work.

I following u on twitter and I have twitted, here’s the link.

1 .My current PC is a P4 2.4ghz and 256mb of RAM loaded with WinXp pro and have a 15 inch CRT..

2.If I get the bundle ,I would use the notebook for coding ,graphic designing and mild gaming ,As my current PC is not in my room I cant use it till late night..A notebook will solve that problem.the Netbook will be handy to carry around and connect to wifi hotspots

I use a company-owned IBM Lenovo X60 Tablet PC with NO INSTALL PERMISSION, so I have to share the home Dell desktop with my wife for PDA sync, iTunes, etc. Yuk. I’m trapped ! Help ! On the work laptop we still have I.E. 6.x and Lotus Notes as our email package. Need I say more? I’d like to get out of the 90′s by winning. :-)

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now ?

    Answer :-
    —————–
    Intel Celeron CPU
    64 MB of Ram
    15″ Viewsonic CRT Monitor
    Windows XP SP3
    ———————————————————————-

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

Answer :- I feel like I am living on disability pension for a long time because I have yet to make the final pay for the upgrade I did 10 months ago.So upgrades are few and far apart.I love High – End computers but since childhood all that I have ever done is read about them & in my entire life I only owned 1 PC ,an Intel Celeron based PC having 64 MB of Ram.

Why ?? Cause I’m only a student & my parents philosophy is something like this : ” Old is gold so, if it works, then why do u need a new one “.

So , high-end computers are like a wet dream for me. I have never had such powerful computers and probably never won’t be able to buy coz they are way to expensive for my thin wallet.

When I saw my friend’s HP notebook in action I came to know that how “fantastic” this computer can be in multitasking & for my needs.

I’m a huge fan of Oblivion (game) but can’t play.Sad but true. Students life is kinda like,“ Mental Sadomasochism ”.

Try Yourself running anything with a Celeron/64MB and You’ll see how “ SMOOTH ” it is.So, a new couple of shiny speedy computers would bring me much joy for many years to come for sure.I would be able to replace my current crappy notebook with these HP laptops & i would be able to do my university jobs on them comfortably.

    1. I’ve actually always been an HP (and, before that, Compaq) computer guy. Making my way down the line of Pavilions, I’m currently with the Pavilion dv6700 series.

    3. The computer I have is large and bulky. I originally got it simply because a desk-top would be too clunky in my dorm room. However, now its a laptop that’s not portable from my apartment to campus. Since purchasing it, I’ve graduated undergrad and enrolled in a PhD program in philosophy, in which I’m currently in the dissertation writing phase. In addition to the ever-present anxiety about losing all my data, I’m unable to take the computer to my office on campus on a regular basis, which holds me back from doing work both at home and in the office. Having the mini110 to travel and back and forth with, along with the sync cables to keep all my data backed up and ready to go, would relieve immense amounts of stress and, perhaps, move along the dissertation-writing at a nice pace.

    First, you must register

    ==> yep, done..

In ONE comment, you must answer these two questions, and post a link to prove that you have fulfilled the required task:

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?

==> A (broken!) HP Pavilion a1020in, P4 Processor, Intel 915 Express Chipset with 256 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD running WINXP Home SP3

    3. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

==> I’m a Pharma UG student with interest in designing (oh, a bit of PS CS3 n’ AI), I did design the annual magazine of this academic year.

Winning this package would definitely help me a lot to pursue the same and to start my long pending plan of starting a new tech-blog (another one!) in my native tongue i.e kannada (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kannada) and not to mention its immense help in my college project works which will include complex 3D molecular rendering, UV Spectroscopy and all which my current PC is unable to cope up with. As i’m currently sharing my PC with my bro (u gotta wait for the PC ie. for him to finish his work! or will have to wait in queue for college PC facilities) another PC will be a god-send gift!

Next, complete the following and include a link to the completion’s proof in your comment / entry.

    - Follow GearDiarySite on Twitter
    - Tweet the following, and include a link proving that you did it:

“Back to School and Better Together with HP, Microsoft, Timbuk2 and @GearDiarySite!”

    ==> Following as hsh_l

    Thanks For the opportunity :)

I have a old IBM Thinkpad that weighs more than a desktop, and has less memory than a fly.

The new bundle would obviously help with the shoulder strain, and it would probably make me more productive, because I won’t have to wait the average lifespan of a mosquito for it to do anything. I think it would be a welcome upgrade. Please help with my struggling film-making career.

I am using a p3 machine having a 40gb hdd and 128mb of ram.The motherboard is of 810e chipset and the display is a Samsung Samtron 55V.There is no onboard USB and LAN and therefore PCI cards are used. The speakers are from Mercury.I use Windows 98.

My pc has seen better days. The display is not working and it needs spanking to stop the rolling. From time to time the RAM stick needs to be removed and inserted into the slot.

The storage is insufficient for the music and the documents.

As a teacher, I prepare text documents and powerpoint presentations.I have enrolled in a research programme and that involves the collection and processing of data.

The current pc is simply not making my tasks easier.A lot of time needs to be spent on making it work.

The two laptops can really help me. The dv6 can take care of my storage needs and can prove to indispensable for making presentations to my students. The Mini can go with me when I go to the field to collect information.

  • thehotrod

    1. 13″ Macbook pro with 500gb hd.

2.I’m always on the road, so having this type of set up would increase my mobility and productivity. I’d be able to work on my big files and yet have the mini to keep up to date on news and email without having to carry the big laptop around. I frequently edit my photos and presentations before I get to a training location. Having the Mini and the syncables software would allow me to work on the files on the dv6 but only bring my mini into the classroom. Which would greatly reduce the weight of my gear bag.

    I’m using a custom built desktop. A Core 2 Duo E7300, 4GB of RAM, 300 GB hd, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT, and a 19″ widescreen Acer. Ubuntu/Vista.

    3. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

I don’t have a laptop. I have horrible handwriting. Taking notes is so much easier with a laptop.

My current setup is a single Macbook Pro (early 2008) set up as a desktop unit. (External Mouse/Keyboard, etc). I can take it with me, but it’s a pain.
I am considering going back to school, and having the dual setup in the prize would make life MUCH easier. As I haven’t been to school in over 25 years, every little bit would help!

Thanks to HP for the prizes and to Gear Diary for participating. And being one of the most helpful sites around.

Currently I am using a macbook 13.3″ with 2gb ram and 120 gb hard drive. I have been looking into going to a windows based computer to see what I have been missing for all these years. Netbooks Have caught my eye lately because I do a lot of traveling and really like to travel light. I would love to win because I could take the netbook to europe with me in Oct. for a convention. As for all the other comments on here, I highly doubt anyone is running on 128 mb ram… Thats just my view on it.

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?

    Custom/Generic Desktop – P4 1.80 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB HD, Vista Business, 17 in monitor.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

At work, I’m working with virtual machines and need to pass a few work related certifications. Unable to install anything else on current box. The laptops would enable me to setup the software that I need on one and use the other for personal use. It would free up some space on the old desktop that I am using for home/work tasks right now.

    1. A Dell Latitude D520, with 2GB of RAM and a single core Celeron processor.
    2. ???
    3. Dual core processors are practically essential for computing these days – so moving to the dv6 with its two cores would make my home computing life much simpler, being able to run two processor-intensive tasks at once without sacrificing performance. Having a netbook as well would mean that I’d be able to compute and surf on the move without ripping my main machine out of its dock!

(Also, the “Register” link leads to a 404 page, and the list of requirements goes from 1. to 3., omitting 2. Dunno whether that was intentional…)

I currently have a HP dv1000t. It is about 5 years old but has been great. HP makes a beautiful laptop, durable, and lots of extras. My current system, however, is running 512 MB RAM and a 100 GB hard drive. The sweet system offered in this contest is currently being offered with a free upgrade to 4GB RAM and free upgrade to 320 MB hard drive. So, that also answers how this system would improve my life. I just went back to school after having been out for 22 years and the time I waste watching the hourglass spin round and round could be better spent getting things done. With the netbook and sync software, I could easily transport all my data, papers, homework, etc. to the university library. Oh, and carry them all neatly tucked away in a Timbuk2 bag!

I have acer e380(3800+ x2) with 2gb of slow ram and cranking hard drive. I got also first generation acer aspire one. Both machines have windows xp on them. The sad thing is that my aspire one is very poor model. The keyboard doesn’t work always and screen is a tad too small for me but it seems to work faster than my desktop even though I recently re-installed windows on it. Also the netbook doesn’t have enough juice for half a school day.

Getting the dv6 and mini would help me a lot. Right now I have to use the desktop in a crowded small corner in our flat. Having a good notebook would free me from that corner. The dv6 also has enough power for my schoolwork and a little gaming on the entertainment side. A laptop that powerful would hopely be enough for my whole time in the university.

The mini would be nice as it should have a working keyboard(that is reviewed as one of the best on netbooks) :D , a bigger screen and a better battery-life so I could really take some notes on lectures. And the best part is that is not even much bigger than aspire one.

The syncables is great as it would allow me to easily to keep my school work and picture from my photographing hobby updated on both machines so I would always have them up to date. Now I have pictures everywhere and I can’t seem to find the ones I want to.

If I won I would also recycle my old computers. The desktop would go to my parents as their old desktop is very old p4 machine. I would just buy a new hard drive for it and update to ubuntu which they so much like. The aspire one would go to my girlfriend’s mother as she could do with a couch surfer. Even though the keyboard is a bit strange it still works for surfing pretty well as a few skipped keystrokes can be pressed again but try that when you’ve written half a novel during lecture :D .

My desktop computer is filled with a 2.0Ghz AMD processor, 512MB of RAM, windows XP, 180GB Hard drive space, and a Nvidia 5200 graphics card.

Owning this package will make my computing life easier as i won’t have to write all my stuff down on notes and hope I don’t lose them when I get home to put them on my computer, as i could just easily use the netbook to store that data at school and then sync the files to the other laptop because it’s even better than the desktop computer I’m using now.

What kind of computer setup are you using now?

I currently have a desktop computer that I pieced together myself, mostly from clearance items. It’s not a POS by any means but it isn’t top of the line, either. I also have a Toshiba 15.4″ laptop with a 1.7GHz CPU that I can’t use because the screen is broken. Not cracked, it just flipped out one day and looked like a Picaso painting.

How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

This computing package would restore my portability. I love digital photography. A few years ago, I smashed the piggy bank and maxed out a credit card to buy a DSLR. I take a lot of pictures and looking at the pictures in the field on the camera’s 1.8″ LCD just doesn’t cut it. I used to use the laptop to download the shoot when I was done and review the pictures in the field but I can’t do that anymore.

Having the full-size laptop would allow me to work while closer to home (and probably even do some on-the-fly Photoshop work) and the mini would give me an opportunity to have storage and a slightly larger screen while traveling. In addition, I plan to return to school for a Master’s degree and having a laptop would be a huge help there.

I currently own a Compaq Presario Pentium 4 with 512MB RAM and a 40GB Hard Drive.

Owning this would make my computing life better because of the sheer speed and ease of performing any tasks online. For me, there would also be the added benefit of communication with my husband. He will be deploying again next year and it would be so wonderful to give him a laptop to take with him so that I could keep in touch better. Trying to communicate by phone with the time-change is very frustrating and sometimes impossible.

    1. I currently use a Toshiba laptop with a 2.0 GHz Turion x2 CPU, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB hard drive, and a 15.4″ display, which is sufficient for my needs.

    2. If I won, I’d give my current laptop to my mother, who has an old Dell desktop that someone had thrown out with a 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 CPU, 1 GB RAM (maxed out), a 160 GB hard drive (that I installed) and a 17″ CRT that my sister was going to throw out. I’d have a better laptop, the dv6, and gain the Mini 110 netbook, which would be helpful since it’s much more portable.

I had to ask my partner what kind of setup we use, because he built it and I don’t really know that much about it. But it is a:

    Core 2 Duo E6600
    2GB RAM
    180GB Hard drive
    19″ Samsung Monitor
    Windows XP

It is a good computer, but the problem is that it is the only one we have and it really is ‘his’ computer even though we both use it. He works a lot from home, so I mainly use the computer in the evenings. However, in a few weeks time I am starting a PhD and this is when the HP package will come in handy!

I can’t wait to start my PhD, but it is a very long way to university and it is going to be tough to commute everyday. Therefore, I would love to work partly from home, however, to be able to do this, I really need my own computer.

I would use the notebook as my home computer, for internet research, document reading, writing and entering and processing data with Excel and SPSS. In the evenings, I can use it to just surf the internet, phone home with Skype (my family lives abroad) and watch movies, without having to ask anyone for an available hour on the computer! I would use the netbook to take with me to university, since it is light and easy to take with me in the Timbuk2 bag, but powerful enough to conduct my research on. I can even take it with me when I go out in ‘the field’ to gather my data. The Syncables software would be perfect for syncing documents between the two laptops!

With two people working from home, but only one computer, and having no money coming in as a PhD student, the HP package would be very welcome!

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now? RIght now I have an old Dell laptop that is a few years old. It’s a dinosaur. It’s cracking and beat up and slow as molasses.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?
I would be better to use my time more efficiently. The laptop would make it easier to serve the net, use graphics and more programs without it crashing all the time. The netbook would be ideal for traveling. I love having access but am always afraid to take my laptop on trips because of the personal info on it.

My current computer is an older Dell pc that needs to be replaced as it no longer functions properly.
Winning this prize package would give me the tools to pursue a life long dream of writing. I have written articles, poems, short stories, essays, but I have only published a few in college newspapers and magazines. I want to write more and hope to enroll in a couple of classes to that end. I would like to be able to have a system dedicated to my work, being able to sort my past writings and begin on my books. I have storylines in mind, for adults and also for children. This prize would simplify my life and give me what I need to get started NOW, not whenever or never because I cannot afford a system like this on my own, and the inspiration for a story, an article hits unannounced and having tools to readily sit down and make notes, or even start writing the draft would be wonderful!
It has been awhile since I went to college (1994), but I live in a lovely little college town and taking the classes I want would not be a problem. I have raised my family and live alone and need to feed my creative outlet (as well as myself by hopefully publishing my work!).
Thank you for the opportunity to dream and maybe live my dream!

    1. My set up is: HP Pavillion Desktop PC, and a really crappy old nearly ancient Dell Latitude laptop. My desktop is nice but it’s from 2003 so it’s outdated, the laptop is pitiful. I just started college and also started my own small business, and it’s really hard to lug around the laptop which is bulky and heavy and looks like it’s from the 80′s. (Here is my proof:http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d174/alh83/Image.jpg) Pretty pitiful, huh?

    2. This amazing HP prize package would be so amazing and make lie easier because it would be such a help for my new small business. Plus I could use the netbook for travel, business on the go, *and* I could take it to classes with me! This computer package is every student’s dream come true.

The set up I am using is a Dell, I think 2003-2004, 2.80ghz, 2.79ghz, 504mb of RAM….I know…that’s not good. It’s all I have and I can’t afford a new one. It runs so very slow and this is a problem because I do alot of work on my computer and I also edit photos for my 2nd job.

Winning a new computer would be such a life saver! I am a single mom who is trying to get by and I really cannot afford a new computer. I work at a school, in special ed, as a one on one aid to a little girl who is paralyzed from the chin down, I am her hands, and I have started my own photography bussiness. I love to photograph children and I donated shoots as often as possible. Everytime I try to edit the photos my computer either freezes or shuts down. It is hard for me to get editing and school projects done on my old Dell and I end up getting frustrated. I have been entering every contest to win a computer that I can. I just know that owning a new, faster computer would help me to create beautiful photo for people to enjoy and help so much with the things I need to get done for work and school.

I am working in print media and always need a laptop to file reports and do the edits.I used to work on an old Pentium III pc that was gifted to me by my brother when he got for himself a MacbookPro.This machine stopped working since the motherboard developed some problem. I saved money to have a notebook powered by Windows since it is cheaper than a Macbook and also because I am more comfortable working in a Windows environment. Moreover, with Windows I can connect my notebook to the network in my office. But as fate would have it, I was hospitalised and all my savings were used to pay for the medical expenses.

  • Devenox

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?

CPU: Pentium 4 3.0 GHz (Prescott) – still single core :(
    RAM: 1GB of DDR RAM
    HDD: 320 GB of space
GFX: ATI 9800Pro 128mb Dedicated VRAM
    LCD: 17″ Philips (res. 1280×1024)
    CD/DVD reader & burner
    OS: Windows XP (SP3)

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

There are quite some different aspects why the notebooks would make my computing life easier. Every paragraph will tell you why. Like most of us having an old desktop isn’t fun. But for some it’s just a need to have a fast system. Take some time to read it all, please. You can be 100% sure my story is based on truth, which isn’t so obvious. I’ve read some other stories already, and I must say some can really lie without shame. If you want names, I can deliver them. Anyway this is not about the others/

    - Design:
I will give some information about my computing life. I’m a level designer and use Photoshop 7, SDK, level engines, etc. The problem is that most apps don’t run smooth on my current system. I don’t want to start crying because of my current setup but I’m a photoshop-fan. I wrote some tutorials in the past. Anyway, you probably know how Photoshop runs on old systems (or doesn’t)

    - Mapping & development:
Of course I’m not designing all the time. Even if I did, I think you don’t deserve the notebook(s) because of just one aspect. Now I come to my second (big) point. I also love developing games. What I like themost is the engine of the game, “The brain” of the game. I’m a moderate level/map designer. I really like my current map editor: the Source SDK (games as CS: Sources, Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal are based on this engine). Another name is the Hammer tool.

    - What’s the problem?
But I wouldn’t start talking about this if there was no problem. Developing maps take a lot of time and resources of desktops/notebooks. In my case: It use ALL my resources! If I create a large map (still smaller like the popular map the_dust2) then I need huge amounts of ram, which I simply don’t have. My desktop reboots…

I will prove I will use all potentials of the notebook. It wouldn’t be fair if someone won who only uses Word or PowerPoint. First of all there was the RAM problem. But why should I win this notebook? Add some RAM for $50 and you are done? I could do that but RAM isn’t the biggest problem so far. I will tell you my other hardware problems.

When maps become detailed by adding light, textures and models I need much GPU power. I currently have an old ATI 9800 Pro with 128Mb of dedicated video ram. I don’t have to tell you the card is outdated (released back in2003!) I can almost hear the card crying for help when compiling. I don’t want a GPU for gaming, it’s for college. My job exists to create levels and creating levels in games is a good thing to learn. I also create detailed buildings, houses, a garden, streets, etc.
So after the ram and the GPU power, what else do I need?

A CPU. This is maybe the most important, although, the GPU is also very important. When do I need the full CPU power? When I place objects I need power, but that’s not the heaviest task. Compiling maps is the heavy thing. Compiling is like rendering: it can take a while.
It must be clear now that mapping is very, very complex:
See image for an example: http://img386.imageshack.us/my.php?image=complexsf9.gif

    - Compiling:
Compiling with an old Pentium 4 isn’t really a pleasure. I can go downstairs and make some coffee, watch television and eat some toast. When I go back I see compiling is done. 100% (finally!!) I click OK and run the map/environment, by loading the platform or game. And what do I see? Some errors, no big deal, because you can’t simply make a map without any error or mistakes the first time you compile. Windows wasn’t written in one day either.
Now I can edit the errors and correct my mistakes. Now I can compile again (after getting some errors like “Out of Memory”) Again this take a while. The blazing fast dv5 and 4GB RAM would be perfect!

    - Screenshot
At least I can show you a screenshot. It’s made for people who play CS: Source
    http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/8560/05pg3.gif

    - College:
Although building games to entertain player isn’t the only thing I do. I also have to finish college. So I will need Windows Office with programs like Word, Powerpoint and Excel (math!)
I would be very glad to have windows Vista. It’s just a “mush-have” operating system. I cannot install it. To heavy for my desktop…

    - Mobility
I go to college, which is about 50 miles from home. It’s quite clear that I can’t live without a portable computer. However, I’m still stuck with my current desktop. I have to move my desktop every two weeks when I go home (including cables and screen). I don’t have to say this sucks…

    - Vlexo (hosting company)
I’m also a member of the support team at vlexo.com, what do we do? We are providing free webhosting to hostless people. Why free? I must admit buying books and college can be very expensive. Then again if you want to do something extra you always have to pay for it. Not anymore now if you’re planning to host a blog or website. I do free things for other people, I wonder if I will get something for free from you. ;-)
Working with a good PC that can run at least the latest Photoshop would be great!
Then I can design some more for the company. Thanks to Jonathon who pays the servers so people can afford hosting now!

    – The end:
Anyway I think I’ve to stop, you’ll have to read other stories today. Sorry, I simply couldn’t stop writing. You don’t know how much I want this HP Pavilion. There are so many reasons to have machine! But I must stop even you still don’t know half what I would love to tell you. I know I will (probably) not win this contest, but at least I tried!

    Thanks anyway,
    For the opportunity Judie,
    It rocks,
    Tim!!

    hello!
I´ve been working, or at least trying to work, with a Compaq presario 1200
series, this is ancient, pentium3, 128 ram, 650 mhz, old and make me feel old, i guess it´s a rebel one, i give an order and the order takes forever to be obeyed. That shiny HP mini, oh God, wouldn´t ask for more.I found myself a good trick to use my compaq, to look for good software but “light”, very “light” software that doesn´t push the machine to the edge. So the mini, with this way i work, its the perfection, a rabbit!
Winning this i could help my brother, he´s in college, he needs to use those standard workhorses softwares that are high on cpu and many times got to use them all together , lots of graphical tools, so he needs to spend more time at college( using their computers) than in home. The HP dv6 is his face, would do a lot for him.. In the last month, through all those 25 sites, i send emails (waited for emails!?), i draw, i painted, i wrote, became a story telling, i finally twitted (and damn i guess i was wrong , twitter is really good ), created a facebook, read dozens of comments, and i almost end doing a song for one of the contest, but i thought that it would be to much, got to be careful or i would end dancing for youtube too. So even if i didn´t won anything you can understand
i´m kinda relief this is the last contest, all this with a pentium3 , i have to feel proud, thanks a lot!!!! ufff wow..

    4 x 256MB DDR (1GB total)
    160GB Western Digital drive
    XFX GeForce 6600GT
    Samsung 940B LCD (19″)

    2. If I won the two HP computers I could use the Mini 110 while at college. Its long battery life means it will last through my entire day of classes and the portability means it will be easy to carry between classes. Meanwhile I would use the dv6 as a desktop replacement. My computer is showing its age and the dv6 would allow me to run new versions of Windows easily as well as run my programs and games faster.

    1. am using a 1999 gateway desktop that is totally falling apart internally and externally.. It is really huge and takes up space. It cannot handle any application that i try to download, even the most basic. Remember dial-up? SLOWER than that, even with high-speed internet.Everything crashes about 15 times a day. Also when I turn it out it takes 20 min to load everything. It has 128mb of ram, 80gb, HDD. I know there is more but I am not trying to make this a sob story. But this is beyond a crappy computer.

    2. If I won I would be eternally grateful. I can only take online classes now because I have to work full time. The computer I am using can not handle 3/4 of what I am required to do. I am afraid I am not going to be able to get all my stuff done and fail. I am the only person in my family doing some sort of college and I just want to make my family proud. I am going to be doing more than just online classes and it will help a lot to be able to get the required material done. College is supposed to be the best years of your life and I know if i won this package I would experience that, it at least you help:D

1.Right now my college computer is an old hp laptop. It has a completely dead battery (so mobility is completely out of the question, and some of my classrooms don’t have outlets for laptops, so no note taking), and a dead hard drive as well, so I am booting puppy Linux off of a live CD in order to at least have some use for the laptop. As such, the storage capabilities of my laptop are harshly limited to the size of my flash drives (I have two 256 Mb flash drives). As for the actual specs of the laptop, it has an old intel celeron processor which runs at 1.5 GHz. Due to my laptop running off of a live disk, it may have 128 MB of ram, but only 6 are left available for use by programs. So not only is it impossible to use anywhere that does not have an available power outlet, but it has no storage, and it can barely run any programs. Its actually running a really ancient browser just so I can go onto the internet (who needs modern internet security when accessing their bank account?). Oh and did I mention that the internet card has finally given out, so to use the internet I have to use an Ethernet cord, which almost negates the values that laptops have over desktops, or I could spend 50 plus on an antiquated internet card to keep an old computer active. This laptop was first the families laptop, then it became my sisters(when she was in high school, now she graduated college), and now its my college laptop.

    2. Well I am a freshman bioengineering major, and I am currently only able to use a program similar to word pad to type papers. However, it does not have compatibility with Microsoft office 2007 files, so transferring work done on other computers is especially tricky. It also has a gimped spreadsheet creation program, but it really cannot create any kind of good looking chart. I could not find any puppy Linux programs that will allow me to create presentations either, so if I need to create a presentation I will have to wait in line for a computer at the computer labs. On top of this, my major requires work in bioinformatics, and I will have to utilize 3d imaging programs, and my computer clearly does not have enough ram to run those programs. Now, winning these laptops would be a huge plus for my education. Not only would I be able to type a paper with the full ability to edit the document, add pictures, and basically make more professional papers easier. The same goes for spreadsheets, and if I want to make a chart or a presentation at all, I am going to have to utilize the computer labs, and I have read that the lines are huge. Huge to the point that its almost not even worth going to the computer lab, because the wait/work ratio is just terrible. Now, on top of all of this, I absolutely need to use those 3d imaging programs, and its impossible for me to do so running Linux. Now, the new laptops would be such a help to me because I would be able to do classwork where I want, and using the programs that make that homework easier. Not only that, but I will be able to use newer forms of Adobe flash, and actually be able to go onto the internet all over campus utilizing the tiny netbook(the size amazes me!). Not only will my educational uses for computers be revolutionized, but I will also be able to utilize my computer for multimedia, as well as possibly games!

I have a Dell desktop (about 3 years old), 2.13 GHz, 1MB RAM, 160GB hard drive. WinXP Pro SP3, and a 19″ monitor.

I work part-time and have two kids. I am involved with a band parents group (recording secretary), the PTA at one school (bylaw committee) and the booster group at another. I am constantly taking meeting notes, checking grades online (oooh it drives my kids crazy!) communicating with other parents about events, and in general using the wonderful internet to help my family live its life. Having to do those things stuck up in our home office is a real pain in the neck when I need to be downstairs helping with homework. Having these awesome HP computers (heck, having even ONE of them!) would make me a more productive parent-group member and a more available mom.

The computer setup I’m using now is a Gateway MT6841 notebook (which is now discontinued):

    2. As a student studying computer science at university I currently have to make notes by hand during lectures, if I had a netbook I could type my notes during lectures and sync them to the notebook later on (using Syncables). Also I cannot work on projects whilst I am on campus unless I remember to copy the latest code or files to my university drive or pen drive. This limits the work I can do on campus as I rely on having access to my project data, with the netbook I would be able to work from the netbook and Sync the data using Syncables to the notebook when i get back to my digs. Winning this package would greatly help my university education.

Thank you for the chance to win this awesome prize.

I currently use a dell laptop, that is full of problems it’s always shutting down. my pc just crashed so this is what I have to use.

I have kids that take advanced class’s at school plus advanced class’s on line and I want to enter contests all the time so having a new laptop would help the computer sitation in our home another major problem is all our family lives 1200 miles away so we need a extra pc so that we can stay in touch when on the go. I’m always afraid that after spending hours entering contests I will not be able to return email because my pc has crashed or its not available to check my email, its happened before.

I don’t own a laptop or netbook but my desktop PC is one I assembled myself with the following parts.
    - Cooler Master Stacker 830 case
    - Cooler Master 750W PSU
    - Biostar TPOWER I45 motherboard
    - Intel Q6600 CPU
    - 4GB DDR2-1066 Ram

    1. I am currently using a Microsoft windows xp home edition, service pack 2, Intel (R) Pentium (R) M processor 1300 MHz, 247 MHZ, 256 MB of RAM.
    2. My sister gave me the computer the dell latitude d500. This laptop fell apart about 5-6 years ago, during that time, I dropped it on the floor by accident and the screen turned black and stayed that way. I had no choice but to go to the library, but they would only let me use it at about 50-60 minute. Since I have AP classes or Advanced Placement course which is the same as taking collage classes in high school. I get a lot of homework and Projects to do even during the summer break. Naturally even 60 minutes was not enough time to finish it all which meant going to my friends house doing homework or projects for approximately 2 hours. After awhile I decided to fix my laptop it ended up working but, it was too slow, it was heating up really fast even when I bought a laptop cooling bag it was really hot, sometimes I would have to close the laptop for 3 hours just to let it rest. And that’s the good part of it the bad part is that even if its not too hot I would have to wait about 30 minutes just to watch a 10 miniute video. The battery died and not only is my laptop’s bottom really scratched up but it also falling apart. I really need a need package and it would change my life even more than I could imagine. This before, after is a totally different story, I can finally get my homework done much quicker and I can enjoy and experience what I couldn’t do before like finally being able to go to a McDonalds or staying at home enjoying a meal and not having every second to worry about running to the library just to finish homework’s and projects and if I have a little extra time at night I would be using it to stream so videos like I could before. I could finally enjoy my life a little better and if I could win I would not only have a new laptop from this package and other good things but this would turn my life around.

  • yugi8264

Also I left out that this laptop laggs a lot not only on flash games but also web streaming, the web browser keeps on giving me an error constantly saying do you want to stop script. After in several minutes, laptop completely freezes on me and I would always end up restarting it.

    1. HP Pavillion 1230n with HPvs15 monitor.
    (Athlon 64 2.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 200GB HDD, XP Home).

    It’s about 4 yrs old.(borrowed)

    2. Owning this package would give me freedom and ownership. My laptop died 1 1/2 years ago, since then I’ve had to use my cousins while saving up to buy another. I go to her house, take the computer down, set it up at my house and bring it back when she ask/or needs it. It’s definitely a hassle and inconvenience but it’s what I have to do when I need or what to use the computer.

4 months ago her computer started failing and I had to use the money I was saving to get it fixed. It’s still not working properly – freezing up or basically crawling if it’s on for any lengthy period. Afraid I need to put it in the shop again.

I am currently using a Dell Inspiron laptop for me and my two daughters.

Owning this package would make life easier for me because I might not have to listen to my two daughters fight over who gets to use the computer and for how long. It seems like an everyday occurance that they are fighting over my computer. I use it when they sleep (if I am still awake then).

    1. HP Pavillion 552w with original mx70 monitor
    Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD
Got this in high school (6 years ago), it has worked well for me so far, but it’s super slow and cannot handle multiple applications well.

2.I teach 6th grade science. I have a great projector in my classroom, so the mini would allow me to teach my students in an entirely new way. It would also allow me to work from home in an ultra portable way. I carry tons of paperwork and lab supplies to and from school everyday. Being able to work at home on the dv6 would allow me to research my teaching with ease and then easily transport the mini to school. It would drastically change the way I teach. Technology is a huge attention getter with my students and they would love for me to bring technology into our science classroom.

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?

My main computer is a sony vaio tx series laptop with a 13″ screen and it’s about 3 years old.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

When I first purchased it, my sony vaio laptop was just what I needed. At the time, I didn’t need a lot of storage or power. However, earlier this year, I went back to school for nursing and with so many papers, care plans, and projects to write, a bigger laptop is definitely needed. The smaller netbook is the perfect size to take to classes, writing notes and keeping up with my email and twitter.

Thanks for hosting such a great review & giveaway with HP!

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now? We use a 2004 Dell XPS Gen 2 Desktop with an Intel Pentium 4 CPU with 3.20GHz, 3.19 Ghz & 1.00 GB RAM, Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 400 MHz dual-channel DDR SDRAM, Sound Blaster Audigy, and Dell Wireless Keyboard and Mouse. Video Card included was an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. This computer has been reliable but is slow as molasses for shared usage with a family of 5 kids and 2 adults.I was only able to afford to purchase this computer 5 years ago, through a corporate financing program from my employer & Dell.
    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier? I’m going back to school to finish my graduate degree in Nursing at Old Dominion University at the same time that my stepdaughter is enrolled at our local community college.Plus, we have 4 other kids aged 9-13 who use this computer for various school projects and of course, entertainment (read: horsing around on myspace, youtube and those facebook Mafia wars!) winning this great HP Bundle will enable my stepdaughter and I to have something more reliable, faster and of course portable to do course work on. Our younger kids would also enjoy the same advantages with the HP bundle as well!

Let me tell you about my notebook; it’s been really well taken care of by me and it’s previous OWNERS!! yes thats right, I am the 4th owner. My notebook (twinhead powerslim300 p90) was made in 1998, it has a pentium one cpu @300mhz and 32mb ram, and it is honestly the only portable computer I own (i have an old dell desktop that i surf and word process on pentium3 256mb 10gb i found in the recycling). I wish I had the money to buy a new one. Even with linux running on it, it wont open firefox and forget about flash. I basically just use it to look up wikipedia (on the browser dillo) and do command line computing.

If we won the package those computers would be put though a heavy review by two people who deserve them, my partner, who is sick and visits hospital often, and our daughter who is at school. Also it would make me happy too, so thats 3 lives it would make better and I’m sure the girls would let me use them every now and then, maybe not? LOL

So I thank you for having this competition and allowing everyone to have an opportunity.

    1. I have a 4 year old Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop at my disposal

    2. I completely believe the Dell urban legends that they just don't live past 4 years old. The sad little processor and lack of memory makes it so that when I run Firefox and Photoshop at the same time (which I do for blogging and for my photography that I do for my school newspaper), it makes the computer prone to freezing or crashing. The size and number of files that I need to store on my computer to accommodate my photography would work perfectly with the HP package–I'd use the larger computer as my main and my backup computer, for photoediting, blogging, classes, and for resume editing (I'm a senior applying for jobs right now…gulp). The smaller one could go with me to class to take notes, and would be the perfect travel companion when I'm doing homework on the go (I'm a sports photographer and have to travel every weekend to cover the games and it would be SO helpful not to have to lug a heavy laptop along with my heavy photo equipment…especially if I had a mega Timbuk2 bag to use!!

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?

Using a 2004 Dell Dimension 8400, 3.2GHz, 2GB RAM, with a 19-inch Samsung monitor and a DSL connection. Duel OS: XP Media Center and Ubuntu.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing
    life easier?

Owning this package would allow me more and faster options while editing video, and also allow me to go mobile with the technology.

    1. The computer setup my family and I are using now is a laptop: the Dell Inspiron 600m. I don’t remember the specs because my parents bought it years and years ago, so a quick Google search:

    - Pentium M 725 1.60GHz Processor, 2MB L2-Cache
    - ATI Mobility RADEON 9000 AGP 4X video graphics at 32MB
    - 14.1″ SXGA Monitor
    - 512MB, 266MHz RAM
    - 60GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive, 4200RPM
    - Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
    - Dell Wireless 1450 DualBand (802.11 a/b/g) internal Wireless card
    - Internal 56K Modem and Integrated Network card

    2. This incredible package would make our (my family and I) computing life easier in a lot of ways. But, the question only asked how it would make my life easier, so I hope this comment doesn’t make me sound like I’m going to hog the two computers. My family (the dad, the mom, the older sister, the younger sister) always comes first, and I would definitely be sharing the whole prize package with them.

I’m currently entering my fourth and final year of nursing. Nursing?! Yes, nursing. I know what you’re thinking. *pictures myself entering a sterile operating room, with a HP dv6 in hand, and asking the doctor if there’s wireless internet in the room* Err, nope, I guess that wouldn’t work out. How would it make my computing life easier? As easy as ABC! I’ve written up a list lettered ABC…XYZ, and a few sentences that goes with that particular letter. After each point, in brackets, is which goody or goodies I’m writing about.

A: AVG, Avast!, Avira AntiVir…say hello. I would install a lot of security software on this laptop because it can handle it (good-bye, 512MB) and most importantly, it keeps everything on it safe and free of nasty worms and viruses which make me bite my nails. I wouldn’t have to worry about those and it would definitely make my life (and nails) easier and less stressful! (HP dv6)

B: Big? No way! 2.89 lbs is perfect. *flexes bicep* (HP Mini 110)

C: Creating/editing random pictures and videos for social networking sites to keep in touch with everyone and let them know what I’m up to. (HP dv6)

D: Durable and reliable. I know that this laptop is built to take a “beating.” I read that it protects and locks my data/hard drive if it ever gets dropped. (HP dv6)

E: Easy to carry, light, stylish and sexy. I can show off this laptop and it’ll be with me wherever I go. (HP Mini 110)

F: Functioning as and would mostly be a stay-at-home laptop. I really, truly hate having to boot one of my family members off the Dell, especially when he/she is doing something important as well. It makes my stomach turn and makes me feel like I’m a terrible person. (HP dv6)

G: Gaming would be something I would love to do on this laptop. But how would it make my computing life easier? Err, enjoyable, more fun, and an escape from reality! Hey, Mom, I can finally make us into a Sims Family! (HP dv6)

H: High-speed connectivity so when I turn it on, I know that it will connect if a wireless internet connection is present. Every single time I see the “Limited or No Connectivity” on the Dell, I give it a pretty evil glare. (HP Mini 110 and HP dv6)

I: In the hospital when my clinical group is having post-conference to take notes. Any notes I take, I would be able to send it straight to everyone. This saves me a lot of time because when I write down notes, I would have to go home, boot up my laptop (which takes about ten minutes to load up because my family and I have all of our separate stuff on it) and then transfer my written notes to the laptop. The netbook has more memory than the Dell Inspiron 600m (pretty sad), so I imagine that computing would definitely be easier and less laggy! (HP Mini 110)

J: Jeepers creepers! I could use the built-in webcam to take a picture of me before I go skydiving! Okay, maybe not, but you get the idea: I can use it anywhere at any given time. (HP Mini 110)

K: Kicking off my smelly shoes and flopping down on a couch on campus with this laptop. I want to experience surfing the internet not on water, but on the comfy, soft sofa. Ahh, convenient. Comfortably convenient. (HP Mini 110)

L: Lag or no lag. That is the question. So, I answer: lag, be gone. I keep a good book beside the Dell laptop because it takes so long to load up and also, freezes from time to time. I can read an entire chapter by the time that Firefox loads up our homepage. I always dream about having a laptop where I can just open a website, and not have noises that sound like a car engine is in my laptop. (HP Mini 110 and HP dv6)

M: Music. It would be wonderful to load all of Cher’s albums on it for my listening pleasure – twenty-five studio albums, six compilations, two full soundtracks and one live album! (HP dv6)

N: Never fear, Syncables is here. I would use Syncables to sync files, documents, photos, bookmarks, everything from the HP dv6 to HP Mini 110). How many times have I forgotten to load up a paper on my USB drive when I needed to. I need you, Syncables. (HP Mini 110, HP dv6, Syncables software)

O: On-the-go! Freedom from the desk! I feel that the Dell Inspiron 600m is just too clunky and heavy to carry around, so over the past couple of years, it’s been a laptop that doesn’t really move from the desk. Also, in the future as a nurse, if I ever plan to be a travel nurse or if I have to move from home, I can take this netbook with me to stay connected. (HP Mini 110)

P: Popping up AIM and checking my e-mail at a coffee shop. This saves me time because I don’t have to do it when I get home and I don’t have to boot somebody off the Dell. (HP Mini 110)

Q: Quick, fast access to files, lectures, documents, internet, etc. When I have to look at .pdf files of scholarly journals or papers, I would love to access them quickly so I can start reading/scanning them. Again, lag, be gone! (HP dv6)

R: Researching a patient’s diagnosis or medications for the next clinical day in a cubicle at university. (HP Mini 110)

S: Strolling to anywhere on campus and doing my computing, even on the grass. Ah, that would be perfection. Sitting on mowed, green grass…in the shade…sipping on a bottle of water. (HP Mini 110)

T: Taking it out and surfing the internet while listening to a boring lecture. Maybe keeping up to date with what Gear Diary is up to? *smiles sheepishly* (HP Mini 110)

U: Usually have terrible, long breaks between lectures; some of these breaks are usually three to five hours long. I would love to use the built-in webcam to chat with friends and classmates from all over the world during my breaks. Hey, they’ll make them go faster. But on the days when I need to use these breaks to study for exams or quizzes, I’ll be able to open up lectures or notes and study from my netbook. If I have written notes and I’m not sure about a point or a sentence (or I don’t remember what an acronym stands for), I can grab my netbook and do a quick search on a search engine. (HP Mini 110)

V: Vista, vista, vista. The Dell Inspiron 600m has Windows XP, which is fine, I don’t dislike XP. But when I first used Windows Vista on my friend’s computer, it functioned like a hot knife cutting through butter. So smooth. (HP dv6)

W: Watching movies with my family on the stunning 16″ screen to destress from everything. (HP dv6)

X: XP stands for eXPerience. An operating system I’m familar with and I dig it a lot, except the XP I have is slow and well, slow. And yes, I know it’s not suppose to be slow. (HP Mini 110)

Y: Yes? What’s that? You’re drooling over my customized Gear Diary Timbuk2 bag? Why, thank you, thank you. My computing life would be set in stone with this bag because in it, would be this netbook, sitting safe and sound. The bag would make my life easier because I can throw the netbook in it, along with my books, notes, papers, scrubs, stethoscope, pencil case, a lunch, etc. All in one super-good-lookin’ cool bag. Super handy! I would love to say so long to my many tote bags and my has-been-with-me-for-almost-six-years backpack that are with me at the moment. (HP Mini 110, customized Gear Diary Timbuk2 bag)

Z: Z-Alt-Del? Ctrl-Z?! No, that’s not right, Dad! It’s Ctrl-Alt-Del! Oh, right. Thanks. Man, oh man. In a week, we probably use that command about ten times because the Dell freezes, or my younger sister accidentally loaded up a site full of Java games. Why, Java. Why?! With this laptop, we know that it can handle Java games or Quicktime movie trailers. It would save me a lot of confusion and stress. Hello, Scrabble! (HP dv6)

Apart, the two computers, the Syncables software and the bag are like four medication pills…they’re each unique and they each have their own random ingredients and actions/uses. Alone, they don’t do much, but when they’re used together, brought together in a way that works, they’re amazingly effective and simply, they’re great together. They’re more than great…they’re better together.

Right now, my computer setup consists of an HP Pavilion Desktop, and an Acer Aspire laptop is being shipped to me.

Owning this package would make my computing life easier because my husband and I have been sharing the one desktop. The new laptop will allow me to do some word processing, internet browsing and e-mail, but I don’t think it’s going to be enough for either of us to do anything substantial, such as graphics, web design, etc. The DV6 is more powerful than our current desktop as well as providing the versatility to use it anywhere. Also, we don’t have a Blu-Ray player so that would be a nice perk. The Mini would be awesome because we don’t buy anything without comparison shopping. We’d be able to take that little one along everywhere we go for quick answers about the best price and other options.

I’ve been considering taking some online classes, but it’s not an option with our current set-up. Winning these computers would make furthering my education a real possibility.

    1. This is for my daughter, who is currently 500 miles south of Hawaii on a tiny little island called Tern Island, studying birds (fresh out of college, with no pay). She does not have a personal computer on the island, but they do have one they can share (there are 4 volunteers and a manager regularly on this island). I do not know exactly what type it is, but it has been there for many a year.
    2. The combination of these two machines, combined with Skype will allow us to keep in contact with her as she spends her day tagging birds/studying their habitat. She will also be able to take the mini with her to Africa when she reports to the Peace Corps this coming June; using it for field data entry while working with her village. And yes, hopefully she will be able to find wireless access once a month or so and contact us during her two+ years.

Thank you for the opportunity for us to keep in touch with our freshly minted biologist daughter – she will most certainly use them well in her travels to the bush and back.

1 – I do have a newer desktop, however my laptop belongs to work and I don’t have one of my own.

2 – It would just be great to have my own laptop so that work can’t just yank away my somewhat of a brick computer, and I’ll be laptopless. Although, looking at the other entries, there are some people much worse off than me that really need these computers. So, give the computers to them. I just wanted to participate. I’d be super happy with just the bag, because I so love the timbuk2 bag, and I don’t have one. That is just awesome!!!

    1) My old Inspirion laptop ‘exploded’ when I spilled coffee on it, so the closest thing I have to a computer is my Compaq SLT/286 with Dos–an ancient being. I don’t know the specs for it, my dad (who is now out of my life) bought the computer in the ’90s. The only thing it can do is type; I haven’t been able to find a compatible printer for it.

    2) Being a busy student, it’d be amazingly beneficial for me to be able to take notes for class. Having a computer that can run powerpoint and save files is vital for me. As of current, I’m unable to print or transfer my files, only look over them. I would be able to save much time and anguish from using the library or wasting my neighbour’s time.

Believe it or not I have an old Gateway from 1999 with Windows 98! I use my sons laptop most of the time with is only a couple of years old. I couldn’t do most of what I want to online with what I have now. The huge, heavy monitor, and all of it so out of date and slow! Most sites won’t even run on it. Computers are an expensive item and it is more important that my sons have one before I upgrade myself. My sons laptop is great, but he needs it for the college classes he is going to take. He wants to major in computer science.

Which leads into how it will help our lives. Not just my life will be helped, but the lives of two others, maybe even more. I would trade with my son the new laptops for his old one. That would give him a better start and make it easier in college for him. Having his would make life easier on myself. I wouldn’t have to wait til strange hours to use a computer, and I could expand what I do and better my life with one that works well. This would also help my son with diabetes type 1. We could find the medical research and get him into the programs for testing meds, which in turn would help others in the future. I would also be donating the old desktop to whomever needed it. I would list it on the free trade site where neighbors help each other by giving what they don’t need anymore to whom ever needs it for free. That or I would take it to the shelter for people there to use. Also, since there are two, I think my older son would get the laptop, and my younger one the netbook to keep up with his homework when we are at the diabetes clinics and doctors visits he is inundated with right now. He is having other health issues, but that is something we will deal with and get through. The computer would help with that too. Having his homework caught up, and having something small and light to take and keep occupied with would be so very wonderful. I am starting to ramble back and forth now, sorry. There is just so much that these computers could and would do to help out this family and my brain is going faster than my fingers. And there is the back pack too! We would have a way to carry so many items with that too. O.K., I hope I did get the major part of what I wanted to say written down where you will understand just how much these would help us. Thank you for allowing us to try for such a great prize. And just an end note, I would like to wish good luck to all who enter.

    1) My desktop computer setup is as followed:

AMD Athlon XP 1700 (overclocked to Athlon XP 2000)
    Large copper heatsink and fan
    2GB DDR400 RAM
    Asrock K7VM3
    Sony CDRW
    Compaq DVD-ROM
    GeForce FX5200 AGP
    Maxtor 250GB IDE Hard-drive
    500W PSU

    Thanks for the giveaway…

    1. I am currently tethered to a desktop, an iMac 2GHz Intel Core Duo with 1 GB of memory. My ancient Dell laptop did not survive a tragic accident involving gravity earlier this summer when it “kissed” the pavement rather violently upon falling from a bicycle traveling at a considerable speed; as a consequence I am without a laptop or other mobile computing device at this time.

    2. Since portability, mobility, and connectivity are the name of the game in computing today, owning an HP Mini, let alone a substantial HP Notebook, would put me back on technological par with my contemporaries; I envision the ability to read, write, and research “on the fly” with a new set of tools enabling me get on with my work (and life) at a more steady, less harried, pace…easy computer access = less stress. It would also give me something to carry in my laptop bag nowadays, other than my usual brown bag lunch: a ham & swiss on whole wheat and an apple.

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?
My main computer is a 2001 Compaq Presario 7000 with a 17-inch monitor. It has a 1.4 GHz Athlon Processor, 60GB harddrive, 256MB RAM, SB Live 5.1 soundcard, and has Windows ME installed. Right now it’s on the shelf because the graphics card died and I’m waiting to find a replacement (GeForce2 AGP card).

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?
I’m an engineering student at a large university. The computer labs on campus are always crowded which makes it difficult to obtain a computer. I don’t own a laptop of my own, so my brother has allowed me to borrow his old Toshiba laptop. I’ve been using it for the past few semesters but with only 256 MB RAM installed, it’s pretty slow when running any program. This laptop also has problems with the ethernet port, volume scroll, and touchpad. It also heats up pretty quickly and has a short battery life.

Winning this laptop bundle would help so much. I would be able to install programs like AutoCAD and Matlab on the dv6 and work on my design projects wherever I go. I could work on other assignments as well as edit pictures and my artwork. The Mini 110 would be a nice alternative to the dv6 when it isn’t a priority to design on campus, especially since I usually have to bring several heavy textbooks with me. I would use the Mini for basic note taking, writing simple reports and surfing the net. Then I could use the Syncables software between both computers to transport notes and assignments, which would virtually eliminate the need to carry a flash drive. I could finally give my brother his laptop back and all will be well with the world. :)

    1. My computer setup is ok-ish… but the kids, oh the poor kids: they have choice between an old P3-533 the wife scored from her work; or an old Sony Vaio (P3-650)… neither of which they enjoy, unsurprisingly!

    2. How will wining make my life easier? Well, first, it’ll stop the kids bitching, and secondly, when we go on our summer holiday I’ll be able to hook my dSLR up to the notebook and process my photos as I go, but I’ll let the kids take the netbook and they can learn how to take photos and process them as well…..
Also, I’m keen to take a look at Windows 7, but hate going through the pain of a re-install – don’t really have that problem on a new system! :D

I’m currently using a Dell Inspiron 1420, Intel Core 2 Duo, 1.5 GHz, 2Gb RAM.

Considering this is the ONLY computer in my household, winning this package will mean that I don’t have to carry around my family’s only connection to the modern world. The laptop/netbook combo will mean that I will never have to worry about my laptop’s hard drive crashing (again!) and losing all our data, since it will be available on both systems. The Timbuk2 bag is the icing on the cake, I’ve never had a proper laptop bag to carry my things so I’ve had to make do with trying to balance holding my laptop in one hand, textbooks in my bag and extra books in my other hand. 9 times out of 10, I’ve felt like I could be a professional juggler.
Not only will me and my family be grateful if we win this giveaway, so will the kind person that lent me her laptop every time my one decided that it had completed its purpose in my life.

I tweeted about you guys too, at http://twitter.com/samanthaxm/status/3796111648 but it’s a private account, I don’t know if you guys can see it.

Thank you for this opportunity, you are one amazing lady.

I am a 64 year old retired teacher. I have four children-three sons and a daughter. My eldest son stays with me and my husband. The other children live in cities far away from my place.I use the computer and the internet to stay in touch with my children. I mostly voice chat with them. The computer I am using now is something that I share with my son in his room. A laptop would give me and my husband the fexibility to talk with my children when I want. Also, the speakers and the microphone need to be adjusted time and again. The laptops, my son says come with cameras, microphones and speakers. So they would be more helpful. My husband and I watch old movie classics a lot and the laptop would be very helpful in that respect also. I plan to give the other laptop to my son.

    Hello…..and thank you…..

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?

Dell DIM 3000, Intel Celeron CPU 2.66 GHz, 768 MB of RAM, 17″ Compaq Monitor, CD RW, Windows XP …..It runs slow and i def. can’t take it to school with me….It would run faster if there wasn’t so many kids games on it. I’m a single parent going back to school and don’t have a Laptop to take with me or help out.LOL

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

It would make my life a LOT easier because i would have my own computer that is not shared with my 3 children. Theres so many games on this one it’s not funny and every time W.O.Warcraft upgrades, my computer needs one also to download it. I am going back to school to take Web Development, then maybe Law and Security Administration. I don’t have a Laptop and need one for school because this is the only computer in the house (used by 3 kids & 1 mom)…One that is “mine” only would be great and i can’t afford to pay for one, school will cost enough. Winning this would be a major help because i won’t have one for school otherwise. My ex isn’t in our lives at all, so having my own laptop would free up space on this one for the kids school work. The bundle here would be so helpful for my school work, it would be one less of a load off. Thanks….

    1. I am currently using an acer laptop, model Extensa 4620Z.

    2. Winning this contest would make my life easier in a lot of ways. My current computer was pretty cheap, and it is slow and needs more memory. Plus it has been acting strange lately, and sometimes I have to pop the battery out to get it to boot – not a good sign for how long it is likely to keep working. Another big problem with my computer lately is the battery life. The battery is only lasting about 25 minutes now, which is way too short. I’ve thought about getting a new one, but I hate to invest money in something that is already having issues. So having a new, fast, reliable computer would be a big relief for me.

Having the netbook would also be a huge benefit. I work from home, and am starting part-time college classes this fall, so time is always in short supply. With the mini and file syncing software I could take the netbook with me and actually get work done while I wait for my kids to have piano lessons and soccer. This would be a great time saver for me, and would make me much more productive.

Finally this would make my family life easier because my kids would stop complaining about the fact that they never get to use the computer. They could use the Acer, so at least until it dies they would have something to use for school work, blogging and email without having to check my work schedule.

    1. I’m currently using my roommate’s computer. My computer died just in time for the fall semester. It’s a lovely 13″ MacBook that does everything I need it to…except leave the house…because it’s not mine. *tear*

    2. Having my own computer again would literally save my life.I could use it for taking notes during lectures, research/writing papers at home (instead of the library), tool around in-between classes – I’m sure I could even find a way to make dinner using it. It would be a glorious thing.

    1) I am currently working off of a DELL 4700 series desktop. Here is the specs I found online: Windows XP Home; 3.0EGHz Intel P4; Intel 915G chipset; 512MB DDR2 SDRAM 400MHz; integrated 128MB Intel 915G (shared memory); Maxtor 6Y160M0, 160GB, Serial ATA, 7,200rpm hard drive. I have been having lots of problems with my computer lately and have to keep taking it into the computer repair shop (my comp is WAY out of warranty)…so I am without a computer at some of the most inconvenient times. Oh yeah, when I turn my computer on I have to wait 30 minutes if not longer before I can use it. I don’t know what it is doing inside but it is very noisy and totally inoperable until it stops its initial “thinking”. I would love to have a new desktop but a laptop would be even awesomer (I know that isn’t a word)!
    2) Owning this computer set up would make my life so much easier. I work full-time and am going back to school, so having a reliable computer is a must. Owning this set up would give me portability. I would be able to take my laptop to work and catch up on my school work or check my work email while I am waiting for class to start with the Wi-Fi offered at school. It would also save me time and money…no more wasting 30 minutes while my computer decides if it wants to work…no more time without a computer while it is being repaired…and I wouldn’t have to keep forking over money for the repair people.

I have a generic desktop I built in 2003 or it could have been 2004, I can’t remember without looking up receipts, with a Celeron 3.06GHz and 2GB ram running Windows XP Pro SP3. I’m fortunate enough to have recently acquired a HP Laptop with Vista Premium, and I’m loving it, it’s definitely faster and more powerful than the desktop. I’m new to both Vista and wireless so needless to say, I’m in learning mode.

What I have in mind if I win this package is to set my roommate, disabled from a stroke, up on the laptop. Right now, I have her set up as a user on my desktop, but as the desktop is in my room, sometimes that’s a bit challenging, and a notebook would allow a lot of freedom. I would like the netbook because it’s so handy and is a perfect compliment to a notebook.

Currently using a late 2006 20″ intel core duo Imac desktop primarily.

BUT: winning this prize pack would profoundly change my workflow because I recently upgraded my photo studio with a pricey (for me, but gotta think of the long term investment) professional photography studio lightbox, since my primary (telecommute) job description is product photographer. This marvelous piece of technology requires a windows set up- I will monster through with VMFusionware 2.0, HOWEVER

scoring this package would greatly increase speed & efficiency of the new software plus since I have to go back & forth between my studio & our physical retail shop once or twice week – a 130 mile round trip – and I have to pack up my 26 lb not really a laptop Imac & lug it along- it truly would allow me to leave the mini at work & use synchables with the dv6 and I would be productive, synched & free of lugging altogether. Try packing up your entire desktop & lugging it around every week! LOL

It truly would be an ideal solution to a really wierd problem! ha ha

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?
I have an eMachine desktop with a Dell Inspirion 5100 Laptop. The laptop is about seven years old and on it’s second battery…its starting to crack under the pressure. My desktop regularly crashes. I’ve tried everything and can’t figure out the issue. It tells me I have a driver issue…okay…I think the truth is, it is age combined with overuse that is the issue.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?
I’ve wanted a netbook for some time now. The portability of the netbook really appeals, I take notes as seminars, classes and meetings, and then have a terrible tendency to misplace them. If I could open a file for each event, I would be able to keep those notes electronically. Which would make them highly readable (you should see my handwriting) as well as easy to find.

The laptop would be a great way to keep everything backed up, as well as portable, when I need more computing power. It’ll be a bit of a challenge to go desktop free, but it is the right thing to do.

    128 mb RAM

If I won, I’d give the mini to my mother, who work all day in her shop and she need to be conected to internet in there. And de dv6 it would be for me, because I’m starting the desing career and I need a fast notebook to study.

    hi,
my computer is a desktop pentium 4, 256 ram, 1,7 ghz, windows xp ,

this package without a doubt would be a tremendous help in my way trough college, the HP dv6 and the bag would be very welcome, i would give the HP Mini to my mom, she just started a night job taking care of an old couple, when she will be home i will be in College, when i will be home she will be working, so the HP Mini would help us staying in touch and “together”, would be better like the HP slogan mentions, thanks.

    1. My wife and I both share my HP nc6220 – it’s about 5 years old but does the trick most of the time.
    2. If I won this competition then I’d use the dv6 and my wife would use the mini 110 – I’d be able to do work on the dv6 as I’m a software developer, and also like to surf the net and watch DVDs; my wife mostly just surfs the net so the netbook would be perfect for her. As for the synching software, we’d be able to synch family photos, etc so if one of the computers died we’d still have our important files saved. And the backpack would be great for me when going to conferences.

My current set-up is pretty lame. I am using a 5-year-old desktop that my husband put together from various components. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000, which is I think about 4 years old (maybe 5?). The desktop is way too slow and has almost no available memory left. I usually have to reboot it at least once per night because it locks itself up. My laptop is a mess. It has minor issues that don’t affect me too much like the hinges being cracked, the letters being worn off the e, r, and s keys and the battery no longer holding a charge so I always have to be connected to AC power. The thing that really slows me down is that the space bar has decided to stop working. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, and sometimes it puts in two spaces instead of one. (See – it just did it again there, almost on cue!) I am getting really tired of backspacing and it wastes a LOT of time.

Winning this contest would get me back to my productive self, that I have been missing. I wouldn’t be wasting so much time rebooting and backspacing! Actually I would be MORE productive than before because the it would give me some extra portability. I have been doing some babysitting lately to make ends meet and it would be perfect for getting some extra work done while watching the little one nap.

    1. I am currently using an outdated hp pavilion f1703 w/ windows xp. One of the speakers is dead and the original keyboard and mouse died a long time ago. With Halloween around the corner my computer would be a great Frankenstein’s monster b/c of the mish mash of components it has become.
    2. Owning this package would make my computing life better in sooooo many ways. First of all the components would work and not need to be tweeked/changed/or beat with a big stick to make that happen. Second I would be able to chat with my family back home whenever I want w/o the lag time of a George Romero zombie stumbiling after Barbera in the cemetary.

    Hi there,

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?
I have an old Acer that has missing keys which I have to share with my kids.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

Owning the package absolutely change my life, but not necessarily the life of my kids (-: Just kidding I would share. . . I spose, if I have too.
In fact they could use the mini. It is so frustrating using my laptop and hard to be creative when I am waiting and waiting for it to load, download, upload, for it to do anything actually. But I guess the most frustrating and painful of all is losing files due to my click happy and somewhat naive kids. Luckily they’re very cute and melt my heart.
Winning this package would solve all of this…

    2. Being picked to get the dv6 with a Mini 110 would make things much easier with regards to the accounting courses I’m taking, as the Mini 110 is sufficient to take notes and do some exercises on, while the dv6 would be more useful for handling some of the other software I’ll be needing to use, with the Syncables allowing me to make sure that all my notes are available to me whenever I need them, along with being able to use either the dv6 or the Mini 110 on the go, so I don’t have to do all my homework at.. well, home.

I currently have a Dell Optiplex GX620, that my husband Frankensteined for me out of disposed computers, from recycling.

Winning this package would mean a lot to me. I am home right now with my toddler, and can’t afford classes right now, so am trying to teach myself web design. While, my PC can hold the software I have, it just barely does, so I have had some memory issues. My husband will eventually, be able to find me some more memory I am sure, but the biggest problem with my current set-up is being chained to the PC. My daughter has sensory intergration issues, so I must watch her a bit closer than most children her age. A nice laptop like this would enable me to get some of my work and studies done while she plays. The netbook would be great for keeping up with my blogging and looking up recipes while in the kitchen(going upstairs with a toddler in tow, tends to deter me from checking recipes online…lol).

1.) I have a Dell Studio desktop computer, but I’m trying to win this for my college-bound son who will be needing a laptop to take with him. He is using his dad’s old Dell laptop that is about 8 years old. All the USB ports on it no longer work.

2.) When my son wants to print anything, he has to email it to me so I can print it since he can’t load things onto zip drives with dead USB ports. That won’t work very well for him at college. It would be nice for him to be able to leave this big laptop back in his dorm room and carry the netbook around with him for taking notes in class, etc. I know I’d worry a lot less about him dropping and breaking the little netbook than I would the nicer laptop. It would be much easier to replace if necessary.
Other than the obvious teenager stuff (facebook, itunes, online games, etc.) I’m not 100% sure how he’ll be using a laptop at school, though I’m sure he’ll have term papers, reports, research projects, etc. Back when I was in school, a portable Compaq computer with the tiny little B&W screen that ran in DOS was available for businesses, but no students owned one. Now, a laptop is practically required at school.
It would also make my life easier because I got his older brother a really nice HP laptop for college and he hasn’t stopped whining about it since. He’s tired of having to use the crummy old laptop and I can’t really blame him. This would be a great win for him. Thanks.

    My Current rig consists of
    One 15in CRT Monitor
    A Pentium 4 @ 2.8 Ghz
2Gigs of DDR ram @ a whopping 166 MHz (sigh)
    A Radeon 9250 with 256MB onboard memory
300GB total storage between all drives

This started out a Dell Dimension 3000 which was given to me three
or so years ago because I was lacking a computer, had no money with which to
build/buy one which would be useful for more than a few months, and the
person in question had just gotten something new themselves

As one can tell, I’ve managed to done keep it functional without
slagging any vital components, but I need to upgrade
before I start classes in October because its far below the minimum
specs I need for my classes. I also do some design, and the extra
power is always welcome with Adobe products. And I’d be lying if I didn’t
say it would be used for the occasional game which my rig has no hope of
ever running. Winning this would save me the money (That I don’t have) and
need to shell out to either build or buy something new in the next month and a half.

So, to be honest again, I’ve never had any interest Twitter.
However, I’ve started an account fairly well for the express purpose of entering this
contest, and I’m hoping something good comes of it. Thank you for taking the time
to read this, because I realize it probably comes across as amazingly trite and self
serving. I must reiterate though, that this would be an incredible boon at a time
    when one is most needed.

I currently have a Mac OS desktop – sorry but I can’t tell you too much more. I am not real computer savy but I love having one & someday hope to learn more.
The way that winning would improve my computer life is the fact that I share my computer with 5 kids ranging in ages from 9 to 25 and don’t get a lot of computer time. More computers would be a dream come true especially for homework help.

    1. The setup i’m using right now is a refurbished Dell with issues with the g and the o keys. They sometimes don’t want to work and i’m constantly having to go behind myself to check my work. 512 mb of ram and 40 gigs of memory.

2.This prize package would allow me to get things done much quicker and more effeciently. I could save more things which would make my life even easier.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?
I am currently going into my second year of college. I have never had a laptop, and I am in the process of looking for one. I however have no money left after tution and I am resorting to offering my current PC for sale along with my PS3, so that I can afford a laptop for my writing courses. If I won, I would use the Dv6 as a college laptop, portablity is not an issue for me as I have big fingers and mini would be a little small for fast typing. I would use the Mini during breaks in class, or if I needed to go out of town in a hurry, it would be a great to be able to grab.

The HP DV6 will definitely replacing my old desktop cause i need power and stability and the DV6 is much more faster than my desktop. Not only i can finish my tasks faster but i`ll enjoy HP quality and stability. Always here when i need it and exceeding our expectations.

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?

Prime system is a reconditioned HP desktop. It runs well – but in our family it’s always a challenge to get screen time (and it’s always fixed in one place). Moreso now because second system (for the four of us) is an 11-year old Linux box that just self-destructed.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

This package could truly shift the way a whole family computes:
    > The old-ish desktop would become a media server to let us centrally manage and serve all the music and other media we have bought, and be our backup home.
    > The HP Mini 110 would become the perfect satellite PC, floating in the house from room to room for each of us to use.
    > The HP dv6 laptop would become my main reference as I go back to school and rely on a serious performer for many applications.
    > All of together would make my computing complete under the HP brand.

    1. Currently I am using an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop. Love the form factor, hate that vertical lines have formed on the right hand side of my screen. (A repair that requires $$ and a new screen, sadly) Hate it more that as a graphic designer, I kind of need to SEE stuff on my screen.

    2. How would it help?
    – I’d have a screen I could see stuff on!
    – I’d gain the efficiencies of a better processor/more RAM
    – Give me a more professional appearance than a beat up Acer

As for the netbook — as much as I would like to believe I could use it as my mobile satellite, doing all the non-design related tasks I have in my life remotely, the reality is this: it will probably end up being teh primary computer for my 6 & 9 year old kids to use, thereby extending the life of the laptop I would use!

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?

Right now we only have one working computer, it is an iMac G5 and it was purchased in 2005. It was originally purchased because my husband needed an Apple in order to run software that his company needed him to use, but since then he has moved onto another job so having an Apple is no longer a must have. This computer has been rebuilt once because the hard drive and logic board and inverter all went, and since it has been rebuilt it has not been running right, and we worry everyday whether or not it is going to start and work for us. Our printer died as well, so the only additional hardware attached to the iMac is speakers which are Klipsch and an HP Scanjet 3500c Scanner. Really, our setup is bare basics and with our children at the point where they want to use the computer, we are not adequately equipped for them with a dependable computer and accessories for them to do their homework on.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

First and foremost this amazing package will provide us with a working computers that we can depend on. Right now we are limited to being able to work from our computer only if we sit at the table in the family where the computer is set up. We have no versatility for being able to move the computer to different rooms of the house. We also have no capability for being on the computer when we are away from the house. So right away, this wonderful prize package will provide us with the capability to work on the computer, and be online if we want, wherever we are and whenever we want. This literally will change our lives! The kids can work on their homework in the comfort of their own bedrooms, or I can write on my blog in the comfort of my bed late at night when the kids are asleep. We can also bring our laptop with us when we are away from the home and stay connected online, even if we are away from an extended period of time. The ways in which we will benefit are just endless, because right now we are just so limited in where we can use our computer and if it is even going to work. We pray everytime we turn it on that it is going to fully power up!

Winning this package would make our computing life so much easier for a number of reasons – we would have the speed and reliability to complete homework assignments in one sitting, we would be able to store more pictures and music without slowing down our pc, and more than one person could use the computers at a time.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

owning this package would make my life much easier. My laptop is usually really heavy for my to take to school so having the mini would make my life much easier. Also, having a second computer would prevent me from having to take out and set up the same laptop over and over again as i get home and go to school. Also, I would have able to have a computer for personal stuff and one for school stuff because my current computer is jammed packed with everything!

    AMD Athlon ™ 64 Processor
    19” LCD monitor

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?
As a college undergraduate this package would make life easier in regards to taking faster, efficient notes (I type faster than I write). I have hour long gaps in between classes so I try to work on future assignments to pass the time but this can be limiting as most assignments are online. I would be able to work on research papers and discussion board posts at a reasonably time instead of waiting to do all my main online work at home. Also, for basically all classes my teachers use software that’s more upgraded than my 2002 versions. Having these laptops would make frustrations end in regards to having to convert their files to meet the requirements to mine. Or making sure my files can open on their computers. I just don’t want to deal with that anymore.

    1. I’m currently using a desktop with Windows XP. It’s a Pentium 4 with 1GB RAM and 60GB hard drive. It’s nothing fancy and I have to share it with other people in the house.

    2. Having a laptop of my own would mean I’d be finally able to save my documents in a computer instead of only in the cloud. This would also mean I would be able to keep my documents better organized and I’d have more time to finish working on my website. The mini would also be very useful since I’d be able to type my notes during class, and that’d be an excellent time saver. Overall, both computers would increase my productivity tremendously and that’d be awesome.

I am currently using a very old Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 circa 2000
    256Mb RAM, 6Gb drive [20Gb one failed] 750Mhz PIII, W2K !

This package would definately make life a lot easier a] the HP DV6 is faster and 9 years newer so I wouldn’t have performance issues b ] would be able to run a newer OS that allows me to install many more programs that won’t work with W2K. c] I would even be able to play hi res video which currently sends the Toshiba to 100% CPU utilisation. The HP Mini 110 would allow us to travel and for my husband and I to stay in touch with each other everywhere and to maybe use a webcam on the HP DV6 so we could see our 15month old sons room from anywhere using the HP 110 Mini :)

Currently on a Macbook Pro, 2GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB RAM running Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6) and previously, Windows 7. This very expensive baby of mine (first generation, 2006) was bought so I could show my Visual Communications students the beauty of a Mac (yes, I’m on the teaching end of things, for now). It’s beautiful, but dying, just as soon as the warranty expired (isn’t that always the way?). And that got me to teach my students something else. Don’t spend $2000 on something portable…laptops get stolen, get spilt on (not mine, but they do) and travel brings trouble. A portable device should not be your main computer. I think this giveaway is a fantastic illustration of a better way to do things. Netbooks are incredibly portable, much less expensive than any Mac, and how cool would it be to have a laptop as a main computer and not have to worry about abusing it through travel? To synch the two after a day of teaching with a netbook would really be a lifesaver. Netbooks run Win7 beautifully, I might add (I teach networking and we’ve been having quite a bit of fun with both netbooks and Win7). I’m not sure what I would do with my Mac, but if it makes it that far, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to pass it along to a very gentle student with repair skills :o ) and a decent amount of cash to keep it going.

Ah, my twitter link: http://twitter.com/krazyfingerzz (where hopefully I remain hidden from my students because hey, we all need a personal life)

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?

Dell Inspiron 9300, XP, 1.6 GHz processor, 70 GB harddrive.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

I’m a second year graduate student and having a mobile laptop would be fantastic. My current system is very heavy (and slow) and gets very hot, so when I carry it anywhere I have to take the cooling pad too. I am starting to attend conferences in my field and it would be very helpful to use the HP mini while travelling to review presentations and check email. Also the new systems would undoubtedly be faster, which would help me to use computational software more quickly and devote more time to analysis rather than waiting for the number crunching to finish.

Thanks for this opportunity! I doubt I will be able to afford a new comp anytime soon, so it’s nice to have a chance to compete in this giveaway.

I currently have a Toshiba Satellite with a cracked screen, it has a huge black ink blotter type run along the cracks. It needs a new battery, I can’t disconnect it from power outlet so it really isn’t portable at all. I can’t afford to put a new screen and new battery on it. That would cost more than a new computer would.

These computers would make my life better by being able to see the screen for one. Being able to carry a computer around. Lastly by having an updated OS and chipset my files would load up a lot faster than what I currently have.

    1) We have a Compaq Presario SR5450F Desktop
    500gb hard drive
Intel Pentium Dual-Core Desktop Processor 2.00 GHz
    2GB Memory
    Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
    Planar 15″ monitor

    2) How would winning this prize put my life at ease?
With two computers that are as impressive as these?
    I don’t have a laptop, just a desktop I own
But I have to share it, it’s not mine alone
It belongs to the family; my kids and my spouse
It’s the only computer we have in the house.

From surfing the net, to homework that’s due
I sneak in a few minutes for my hobbies too
Very rarely is it mine without a forced delay
“Hey Mom, are you done? I need to type my essay.”
I sign off again and get up from my seat
It’s the same every day: lather, rinse, and repeat.

So my own work gets pushed off to the side
I have a dream I will tell you, a wish to confide
I’d love to write novels, it’s my one hidden desire
Having my own laptop is something that would require
I could work without stopping, my laptop and I
It is something I always wanted to try.

And I teach a class, so the purpose is dual
For PowerPoint a laptop is an invaluable tool
So I borrow a friend’s since my own I lack
And when class is done, I must send it back
With steps that are slow and a tear in my eye
I hand it back over and bid loaned laptop goodbye.

Life would be easier for that novel to be
And no more laptops that I borrow for free
The HP Pavilion I would claim as all mine
And the Mini would suit the children just fine
So my fingers are crossed and I whisper a prayer
Because my life would be easier if I don’t have to share.

    1.) I am currently using a HPw1907
with a slow DSL internet connection by loose internet cord
it is slowly being abused by my two sisters and parents who does not know how to take care of it. Also we do not have the chance to afford good accurate virus protection programs so we have old free ones that barely protects the well being of our electronic device!

2.) I am currently frustrated with the over use by my family and how I personally cant use it to my best abilities for my work and schoolwork. A laptop would help me achieve my business career and its portable ability will definitely help me achieve more in the entrepreneurship training. I do also have a fetish for music and mixing so this device could be a great help for containing all my music activities. I am a current hip hop dancer that uses the computer for training with the music and internet features for reference. I do hope to go far in a hip hop business and the package of the laptops will make my future sooo much easier and better for me.

    1) Having sold my PowerPC based, 2004 era PowerMac with the intent to move to a Snow Leopard capable system, I have been spending the last few weeks researching both the Windows and Mac world to be sure I’m making the right call going forward. As I wait for the bugs and early adopter mess to settle on Snow Leopard, I’m increasing impressed both w/ Windows 7 and the wide array of machines availabe on the windows side. I work as a System Admin on Windows based software – so going to a PC at home would be be a major shift. I’ve been using cloud-based “OS agnostic” systems for a while anyway since I lived in a mixed world (PC-work / mac – home). Photos on SmugMug, docs on Google, dropbox etc.

So to directly answer your question, my current system is my company issues Dell Precision M6400 – a beast of a laptop – 17″ screen, RAID array etc and a power supply that I suspect is both bigger and heavier than the Mini 110 in this package :)

    2) Winning this package would make my life easier in a number of ways. (a) I would finally standardize on one platform at home and work. I’m doing okay using the cloud – but it would be nice to have like systems.

    (b) My back would (eventually) return to its normal, upright and locked position…this Dell from work is technically a laptop – but it’s 1.5h battery life means you gotta have the AC supply – and that means 13+lbs in addition to whatever I’m dragging back and forth…

    (c) I’d be able to choose from a wider array of carry options. When you start w/ a 2 inch thick, 17 inch wide screen – you quickly lose a lot of options when it comes to backpacks, messenger bags, briefcases etc. The Brookhaven that I currently have works – but I’d love some other choices. A custom Timbuk 2 case would be a nice start :)

    (d) Life at work would be much easier as well – since I would be able to attend meetings etc w/ the Mini 110 instead of dragging my boat anchor to these sessions. OneNote on a mini just sounds like heaven.

Maybe the most interesting thing I am finding is that what I traditionally thought was the compromise (mac vs pc) has for me been easy. The compromise is more size related (17″ behemouth vs 10″ netbook + a more reasonable full size laptop) What you gain in getting desktop power in a portable (?) package, you give up in terms of true portability, carry case options etc.

To win this package would solve both compromises – put me on a standard platform OS wise, and back to a world where laptops are truly portable again.

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?
    Pentium III 550
    384MB RAM
    13GB HD
A 550mhz desktop is a little embarrassing, but it does still perform well for most internet/email related tasks. I even use it to play GuildWars despite the awful FPS.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?
By having a mobile system to accompany me to classes, and the speed to run, as well as the space to install modern applications and games. My current limit of 13GB is the most aggravating as I find myself almost daily having to decide whats important enough to keep and whats (still important, but) simply taking up too much space.

    1) I am using a VPR Matrix desktop that’s about 7 or 8 years old. It’s crashed on me about 2 times in the last 3 years — so it’s on it’s last leg.

    2) Winning this package would make my life easier because I would have a desktop for my son who is in middle school (where they don’t teach computers or typing, so I am teaching him this at home) and the laptop would be great for me to be able to work at home and also for traveling.

    Pentium 4 CPU, 2.80 GHz, 1G RAM
    Windows XP Pro
    Office Pro
    17″ Flat Panel Dell Monitor

    2. If I owned the two HP Laptops I would be mobile! That alone would make my life easier, but to have the computing power of the 2 laptops would be so great. I am just starting to do the accounting and inventory for my husbands plumbing and heating company. My husband could use the Mini 110 as soon as he completes a job by listing the parts he used and the hours, we could sync them up when he got home and I would use the dv6 as the base computer. I could use the Mini to collect the initial inventory on all the parts in the basement(warehouse). They use way too much paper and redundancy and we could eliminate it and save a tree or two.

I would also use the computers to help my kids in their school work, for watching movies, surfing the internet, and tracking finances. The portability and synchronizing of the computers is wonderful for space saving and time saving too.

    1) A 4 years old Sony Vaio laptop that’s way too big to carry on the Bolt Bus or on an airplane, not to mention the battery life leaves more to be desired and the sound is officially broken… as in can’t be fixed without the entire motherboard being replaced (says the local computer fix-it store). Unfortunately, I’m currently unemployed so I can’t afford that which leads me to the answer of #2.

    2) Since unemployment I have co-founded and spearheaded an unemployment networking support community for New Yorkers called The 405 Club (http://the405club.com). I’m on the computer allll day now. Either I’m searching for fulltime jobs or building The 405 Club community, writing newsletters on mailchimp, blogging on tumnblr, crafting graphic fliers for events, accepting members on Ning (http;//the405club.ning.com)/Facebook/Twitter, etc. It would amazing to have a) a laptop like the dv6 that allows me to browse the web and switch between programs without crashing all while HEARING sound. And B) have a Mini to bring on the bus, the plane or to the gym so I don’t miss a beat on our network when I’m away from home. When you’re a startup, every second counts and you need portability and reliability to ensure a successful network.

I hope whomever wins realizes how incredibly cool this prize is, especially with the ability to synch the dv6 to the mini and carry it in the Timbuk2 bag! Best of luck to all.

Hi geardiary Im sorry I do not have a notebook or netbook computer only 2 compaq desktop’s.
That is why I am entering in this contest. So you asked a question: “how would winning this contest change your life and make it smoother and better”?

Winning this contest would definitely make my life smoother.
I live in a house with 9 children 16,15,12,8,7,4,3,2,and 1 year olds and 3 adults. Living in a such a big house can be alot of work. It is very hard at times.
The kids like to get on the 2 desktops alot(and I mean ALOT) (and I,we don’t have the money to buy a notebook) so I barely have time to get my own time on the computer to take care of things.

So having a notebook, laptop whatever you wanna call it would make using the computer smoother for me so I can take the notebook in my room and have peace and quiet.
And dont have to worry about little ones fighting over who goes next to play a game on the desktop and staying on for such a long time.
I wish you could come to my house and see for your self how much work it is.Lol

Another thing is that I can’t do my excercise dvd’s on our TV, it just wont play at all
and of course I cant do them on the desktops because they are in corners of the house so I wont have any room to do my excercises.
As I said before I would take it in my room and I would be able to do my Dvd’s free, sweaty, clear of everything.

One more thing with the other notebook I would with all my heart give the other one to my cousin and her family they are really poor it is 12 children and 2 adults living in a 4 bedroom 2 bath house They barely have room to sit down. I help them out alot but it would just be a blessing if they could have a computer and take care of their bills instead of always driving 30 miles to the next bank they could just do it online and stuff so yeah.

Thanks for taking your time to read my story. I made it as short as I could because I dont want your head to be spinning from reading so much of my story that you can’t read other peoples stories. By the way………

    1. My gateway laptop finally gave up, there wasn’t anything left to do but use if for a really big paperweight.

    2. I am entering this because of my 14 year old son, he is a very good student and wants to be a mechanical engineer but his father and I don’t have the money to send him to college so his high school time will have to be good enough for him to get a scholarship and this is why I would love to win this for him. This great set up by HP could really make all the difference for him and his future.
Thanks for this chance, and here’s hoping for the best.

    Hello from the UK!

Current computer: My desktop computer is 7 years old but still quite fast as I have upgraded it. However as this contest is about notebooks and netbooks, I suppose i’d better tell you about my current laptop rather than my desktop! They say pictures speak a thousand words, so check out this photo I took of it:

    http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2255/1598946895_33ac2e4f3f.jpg

As you can see, it is VERY old, VERY bulky and VERY heavy! Plus, the battery lasts for an amazing three minutes! It’s horrible to drag around with me and the fact that it won’t run anything more advanced than Windows 95 makes compatibility a nightmare – plus the lack of a CD drive or USB ports means i’m stuck with a floppy disk drive to transfer files back and forth between this and my desktop. It’s a productivity nightmare!

How would this make my computing life easier: well, it wouldn’t just make my computing life easier, it would make my ENTIRE life easier! I’m desperately in need of a new laptop (which i’m sure you will agree with after looking at the picture above!) as I am about to go to university, but being a student, I can barely afford food, let alone a shiny new computer! Most students would be worried about making new friends at their new university, or whether they will fit in, or just be worried about the huge lifestyle change. Me, i’m more worried about what people will think when they see me lugging this ancient monstrosity around campus! That’s why winning your contest would be a Godsend for me! Not only would I be able to do my reseach and create stunning presentations for my course on the HP dv6, as well as running the most demanding software packages, graphics and video editors etc. (and be able to browse your fantastic site on its gorgeous screen, of course!), I would be able to take the tiny HP Mini 110 to classes with me and take notes without worrying about the possibility of having to spend time in hospital in years to come from the strain from carrying my current laptop!! I would be the envy of each and every student, and i’d be able to sync everything back to the dv6 when I got back home using Syncables, which sounds fantastic! The increase in productivity that winning this contest would provide would be amazing! It would literally change my life!

My twitter can be found at http://twitter.com/andrewcomps which will show that I have followed you and also tweeted the message!

Thanks very much, and good luck everyone!

I have a Dell keyboard, Compac AMD Athlon(tm) Processor,1.00 GHZ. 504MB of RAM, and it is so ver old and there are parts that should be there but they are not, the whole thing came from an office that had been closed up for a few years and my boss gave it to me to throw out, I got the thing home and working even though I have problems most everyday, it’s all I can afford. Owning a package such as the one you are giving away would totally exceed my expectations. I could go back to school and I could and would learn to use and create with alot less problems in my daily computer work. I would feel so special and blessed to even be able to use this setup in my daily computer inputting, work and at play.It would be my computer dream come true. Thanks for the opportunity. I have very little memory left on this one in fact, I must remove old programs to add new ones. It would open a whole new world of computer experience for me. Change my life in the greatest of ways.

  • mribeiro

I really would love to win the laptop giveaway.

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?
I have a really old laptop from mid-2001 that I’ve been able to scrounge for simple tasks (ie. typing up essays and surfing the web). It’s an extremely barebones setup, but it’s all that I can afford right now. If I need to do something more demanding, I usually use the computers at my local library. Here are the stats:
    Mobile Celeron 266 MHz Processor
    Windows 98
    64MB RAM
5 GB Hard Drive (I usually save most of my work to my flash drive, as my laptop often fails to start, and I have to go to library to finish my homework).
12 inch screen (eh, I can live with that, but it gets kinda hard to see when I’m typing at 2am).
At most, about 20 min of battery life (basically I can only work near a power outlet, kinda defeating the purpose of a laptop).
Easily at least 10 pounds, probably more around 15 (it’s a pain to lug around to class).
No built in wireless, gotta manually connect it to the wall (again defeating the purpose of a laptop).

My friend Jake did a statistics project on my laptop and found that it starts up correctly (ie. without a BSOD or simply turning off) about 42% of the time :(

My laptop is the only computer that I can use at the moment, because essentially my entire paycheck goes toward my student loans, and buying a new laptop is low on the priority list.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?
Firstly, I wouldn’t have to keep my fingers crossed while trying to start it up, praying that I will actually be able to work on my essay. Normally, if this POS doesn’t work, I would usually walk to local library (thank god for public computers) so that I can finish my work on time and therefore maintain my scholarship.
If I won these laptops, I would probably be able to actually do my homework without having to lug my old laptop to the nearest power outlet.

Although all my buddies that I hang out with are really good friends and don’t make fun of me, it’s kind of embarrassing to be hauling this POS around. I would be able to use the netbook to take to class and take much better notes, while using the bigger laptop at home to write essays and stuff that requires a larger screen (plus with a bit more self-respect).

Good luck to everyone. I realize that there are probably people more deserving than me, but I hope I win. Even if do not win, I would like to express my appreciation and thanks to HP, Microsoft, Timbuck2, and ESPECIALLY Gear Diary for running this contest.

    1. Intel Pentium 4 2.26 GHz.
    256MB RAM
    40GB Hard drive.
    Windows XP
    DVD Drive.

    That’s it, nothing more.

    2. Being able to type my notes in class would help a lot, especially in those classes where the professor speaks really fast. Not only that, but I wouldn’t have to ‘fight over the computer’ with other family members since we only have one computer currently. I usually try to stay at the campus library to finish my essays, but sometimes I have things that just have to be done at home. I would leave the laptop at home, for whoever needs to use it and would keep the netbook with me while at college to take notes, do essays and reports, and carry around.

    1. My laptop is an Acer Aspire with Windows XP that I bought about 4 years ago. It’s got 512 MB RAM/80 GB HD and it’s been good to me (mostly). I had to replace the screen about a year ago and the keyboard and mouse are growing weary–as is the whole lappy.

    2. The bundle would be a blessing to me as I try to get off the ground doing photography to help pay for nursing school (I hope). The larger notebook would be great for editing and handling pictures at home, while the smaller Mini would be so much more convenient for traveling and projects. My internet at home is super slow so I have to go the the campus library or another hot-spot to upload pictures and put in orders. I’d forgotten just how heavy my lappy is until I spent the past two weeks traveling to visit family and lugging it through airports and from destination to destination–with photography projects on the drawing board! I’d pass it on to a friend of mine who hasn’t been able to e-mail her son in Korea since her PC crashed and enjoy the syncables in a much more transportable size!

    I tweeted the giveaway: http://www.twitter.com/littleoldme123

    1. This is the computer I use:
Acer Aspire notebook with Celeron 1.6GHz proc, 384MB Ram and 40GB harddisk, for OS I have no Windows license
    2. I hope I can win this package so I can own not only hardware but also Windows license. Having HP notebook and netbook will make my productivity increase and windows license will make me happy because now I use a legal software.

    1. I am using a Dell XPS 400 Desktop. I don’t have a laptop.
    2. I am currently employed as a “big brother.” It is my job to make sure the kids I take out learn important life skills. At this point in time, I have to take tons of notes by hand. I then have to transcribe those notes when I get home so that I can send them in bimonthly. If I had the Mini, I could takes those notes while I’m out with my kids as I type faster than I write. Then I could easily sync them with the new desktop and save myself hours of work on paperwork. This would allow me to focus more on the kids and less on the paperwork. The included Wi-Fi would allow me to also do some of my work while out and about, and considering I’m on the road often, this would allow me to make better use of that time. I could also imagine being able to educate the kids while out on the road because if they asked me a question about homework that I didn’t know, I could hook into the Wi-Fi and find the answers so I could help them.

    Thanks for this chance.

    1.
I still use this old (barely) running HP zt1130 with an Intel Celeron 1.13Ghz processor and only 240MB of RAM.

My Power Cord has to be wrapped around the screen to keep the computer on. Even the slightest move causes an instant shut down :( The battery is a dead brick.

    2.
This package would drastically improve my work and life efficiency and bring me to the current times in technology. I don’t even have wifi! I would finally be able to use a computer that doesn’t take 20 minutes to start up and not freeze up when I try to play music! I hope I get lucky because I’m tired of being the one who gets made fun of when I take out my computer and try to use it for school work when it just freezes.

Currently, my configuration for my desktop is a 15 inch CRT monitor, 256 MB Ram, 60 GB Hard Drive, Floppy Disk Drive, CD/DVD Drive (Broken), Intel Celeron Processor, and Windows XP Home.

Well, if I owned this package, I would use these laptops to help fund an eco-friendly project to help starving children in all parts of Africa. How does this increase computing life you ask? Well, yes, you see, with these two laptops, I can start up a fried chicken business, and send delicious meals and foodstuff to deserving Africans who are starving to their untimely demise in the harsh conditions of Africa. The first laptop would be used to create a beautiful, well-marketed website showcasing the poor starving children, and urging people to purchase fried chicken from our new store, Laptop Fried Chicken, while the second laptop would be used to create the chicken. Yes, the powerful laptop will make life a lot easier with its speed and efficiency of being able to move faster than the speed of a dying snail. How does the other laptop create chicken you ask? Simple, really, all you do is heat up the laptop to a modest temperature of 358ºF for about 25 minutes, and you place the uncooked chicken onto the surface when it’s glowing red. Once that’s done, you apply secret sauce, and wait for the chicken to begin sizzling. Once the chicken’s slightly burnt and infused with the smell of charred circuit boards, you send the chicken over in a bubble mailer (or a box if the order cannot fit in a mailer). Of course, all profits will be used to send Africans food in this same manner. If this business ultimately fails though, however, I will help those poor people by selling off the laptop remains, and using all the leftover money to send a generous donation of money.

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?
Right now I’m sharing a computer with my husband after mine died last November. I’m not too sure what he has as he built it him self a couple years back.
I think we have a 250g hardrive and he added a video card in a couple months ago, we have a 20″ LCD Acer Monitor and we’re running Windows XP home.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?
I’m trying to run my own business, and fighting over the computer while trying to work…well it isn’t working out well. I also have 2 kids and our computer is up in our room as theres no where else in our small apartment for it to go, so having a notebook would be easier to be where my kids are while I’m working

I use a computer built by my brother eight years ago. It’s an AMD Athalon XP1900+ with 512MB RAM, 306GB Hard drive, DVD writer, and even a floppy drive! It regularly restarts which is very frustrating if you haven’t saved the last paragraph or two (I save my work very regularly). Sometimes it bluescreens, sometimes it refuses to shut down, sometimes it starts in safe mode, Internet browsers regularly close without warning. I coax it along – and I email myself copies of everything so that I have got another copy somewhere else!

I’m about to start my third year in a Developmental Psychology degree. I have a large project to do and really need a reliable computer. My result will determine whether or not I can continue on course to become an Educational Psychologist. As a result of my experiences at school I want to work with schools to make things better for children! I need reliable computer so I don’t waste time I could be using to increase my final classification!

    1. I am using a HP desktop computer that I chose because it was silver! I won’t lie to you, I have no idea about it’s spec, but it is getting quite slow probably due to all my coursework being stored on it – still a nice color though :)

    2. This package would change my computing life completely. I’m working full time and in my third year studying for a degree – talk about stress! If I had this package I’d be able to use the bigger laptop any time I wanted (I have to share the desktop and it’s in an awkward place) and the smaller laptop on the journey to/from work as well as at lunchtimes. I am also studying creative writing so you never know, the next ‘Harry Potter’ could be created thanks to you!

My current setup is pretty embarrassing considering it has been around a few years longer than I have been in college. It is a Thinkpad 770z and has a Pentium II 366 MHz CPU, 13″ screen, 128 MB of RAM, 14GB HDD, and a modem..it doesn’t have an Ethernet port! I think this is what Bill Gates upgraded to after he got his first big break and sold a copy of MS-DOS…

Owning this package would make life so much easier because not one, but both computers in this package have built in Ethernet ports! As it stands now, I have to transfer any files I need to print, email or share in any way, to a flash drive and take them to work with me where I can use a work computer with internet. Having a laptop with internet would just make things so much easier, not to mention the huge increase in computing power these two laptops offer over my current setup.

My current setup is a Panasonic ToughBook CF-28 that I got at a yard sale. This thing is pretty awesome considering its so old and still works. It weighs a ton and is really functional for everything aside from using it as a computer. My daughter uses it as a stepstool around the house ( http://twitpic.com/h38bs ) , as a booster seat at the table and as a great big paper weight ;) It weighs a ton and is rock solid. As a computer, here are the specs: Pentium III 600mhz processor, 128MB RAM, 20GB HDD, and a built in floppy drive which is really useful for copying files to a computer with a network port for emailing as this one only has a modem…but this way I get more familiar with the local library ;)

Owning this package would be really great. I could stop saving my pennies to eventually buy a nice laptop and I could afford a real stepstool for my daughter! It would be really nice to be able to connect to wireless internet and do schoolwork from the comfort of the couch instead of at the library everyday. With two young kids and no car, its pretty difficult to have to walk to the library everyday to submit assignments for my online schooling.

Winning the HP Better Together Contest would make a dramatic difference to the efficiency of my job search and early career exploration. I just graduated from college and am still using the laptop my grandparents bought me for high school graduation, a 2005 Dell Inspiron 600m (50Gb hard drive, Intel Centrino processor, Windows XP only). Now that the economy crumbled and my grandparents’ retirement money was in the private/investment sector, they don’t have enough to buy me a new computer, and my parents didn’t even bother to give me a graduation gift because they’re flakes who didn’t even keep up with a court-mandated extension of child support to pay for college. I’m starting out on my own (finally, a relief to not be dependent on undependable parents anymore!) with student debt, zero savings, a degree that prepares me for grad school or med school more than for any jobs (Neurobiology, very impressive but equally impractical), a hard-working and goal-oriented personality, and only the job that I had during college which is full time in summer but only part time during the year.

Using the computer I have now is a serious barrier to my success. It’s slow, beat-up, heavy, and generally past its prime. Even if it were light enough to want to carry around, the battery is useless and I have to keep it plugged in all the time. I even tried a replacement battery, but it must be the computer because the new battery stopped holding much charge within a few months! I simply can’t afford a new one, even a little netbook, for the many reasons described above, but continuing using the computer I have is constantly a barrier puts me at a serious disadvantage to getting out of my current underemployed situation.

So far being a new college graduate in this economy has been a frustrating cycle of need, effort, frustration, and disempowerment, made even worse by lacking the tools that have become commonplace (mobile connectivity, up-to-date operating systems, etc.) One concrete example of a problem I had just recently (as well as ongoing during my last year of college), was that I was emailed a job posting flier as an attachment, but it was a .DocX file. I couldn’t open the file to even see what the job offer was, and had to go to my aunt’s house to open and print the file, slowing my application down to snail mail pace. I am no longer a student so I can’t use the student computing center anymore like I used to do when this happened (or student insurance, or a cheap bus pass, or free counseling for my issues with my parents, or many other things that used to make it easier…)

Having a light, portable netbook would allow me to keep up with job openings and applications whenever I have down time on the go, between shifts at my current job or on public transportation. Having a reliable, functional, fast notebook at home to use for longer sessions and visual/layout tasks like resume formatting would be fantastic, and being able to sync up my work on each of them would be a dream come true! Another great function for the larger laptop, which I would skip buying if I scrapped together enough change to get a netbook, would be to watch movies on it. I don’t have a TV (I don’t really have time to watch TV, it’s too expensive, and my apartment is to small to fit one anyway!), but I do like to watch movies and my current setup of a small screen and slow processor, along with a dearth of hard drive space to store movies, is a major barrier to enjoying even this small pleasure as a break from my job hunting and picking up extra work shifts whenever they’re available.

I’m sure you have many people in the contest who are just as excited to win a laptop for their various reasons, ranging from those who are privileged college students looking for a flashier setup to those who are in more need than me because they lack a degree or my work ethic (I have never been on welfare, I don’t go to the food bank, but if it weren’t for my dedication to getting out of my situation I could easily have eneded up that way, as my stepsister has for example; she’s a drug addict who barely stays employed at a grocery store). I can only present my situation and thank you for considering it. I am very dedicated to succeeding in my life and surmounting some of the major barriers to it. Please help me eliminated this small but significant barrier of inadequate computing.

Thanks again for participating in this contest, which I unfortunately didn’t even know about until the last few days of it (I only had a chance to enter one other blogger’s contest). It actually prompted me to set up a twitter account, which I didn’t have before and will be very helpful for following job opportunities and industries I’m interested in exploring.

I’m not nearly as hard up as many folks on here, but it’s worth a shot.

This would be a great deal for my son and I, as he splits time between my house and his mother’s house (all of a mile or so apart). Something easy for him to transport would be a great thing.

The computer I am using right this minute is an imac 500 GB hard drive.

What would winning this laptop package do for me. It would make my life so much easier, I would be able to bring the netbook to school, I am sure it is faster and works a whole lot better than the ones they have there. The ability to sync the two computers is one of the way I would be able to do my homework quicker, you really don’t want to know what I have to do now to get it done.

Yes I am following you on twitter

    1. I use an HP DV4170 laptop when I travel. When I bought it, I didn’t think the 6 lb weight would be a problem. However, with the charger and padded backpack, the total weight somehow balloons to 15 lb!

    2. Getting a Mini 110 would lighten that load considerable, esp. since the battery life is so much better. The DV6t would be a huge upgrade in capability, including enough computing power to do video editing while on vacation.

2.) This package would definitely improve my life as I am a college student studying Photography and Digital Design. As such I need access to a computer on a regular basis to upload photos to relieve the strain on my camera and to them.

Portability would mean I could go farther afield and create some truely stunning work as I would not be tied to my home PC.

Currently I share the home PC with my family who also need it for work/college/etc… So this would make my life infinitely easier!

I am currently using a 5 year old Compaq desktop that is INCREDIBLY slow. Especially when I try to edit pictures!

This package would make my life easier by giving me more time!! I’m trying to start a photography business, but right now, it just takes too long to edit. I’d probably be making $3/hr at the rate it takes me now!!

Thank you HP and Gear Diary for setting up this contest. I really appreciate it.
Here are the answers to the two questions.

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?
    – My current computer set-up is an AMD Sempron 1.6 GHz system with 256 MB of Memory, integrated graphics, a DVD RW drive, an 80 Gig Hard Drive and a 15 inch CRT monitor.
    – I also have a laptop with a P3 700 Mhz processor, 128 MB of memory, 20 Gig of hard drive, and a dead battery( always plugged in, not really mobile)

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

If I will win this package, it would really make my life easier and better. Not only my life but also my family. I work as a freelance graphic artist and with the current set-up that I have, I am having a hard time editing pictures/creating artworks. I am limited to the power of my system. Having the HP DV6 laptop will surely increase my productivity and boost my creativity. I can explore a lot more techniques and information to help me become better in my field. It will surely increase my income and will eventually lead a better life for my family. The HP mini on the other hand will increase my mobility, I don’t have to carry my old laptop anymore and search for an outlet just to use it. Having a mini laptop to carry around when I travel will surely make me a mobile warrior and stay always connected. Also, with the provided Syncables Software, it will give me the easiest way to sync my files and bookmarks with ease between the two laptops. The Timbuk bag will also help me when I am meeting clients, since I can carry my laptop with me every time, I can readily show my clients my work and I can make revisions on-the spot.

Furthermore, I will not be the only one who will have a better life but also to the persons whom I’ll share my blessings with. I will give my desktop computer to my aunt who is living in the province, she’s a teacher and she really needs a computer in her work. This desktop will surely make her computing life easier since she don’t have to compute the grades manually, or rent in a computer shop just to type her lesson plans. She can now use Microsoft Office at the comfort of her house. My old laptop will be given to my neighbor that occasionally go to our house to use my computer so she can make her projects and research.

This package will really help make our computing life easier.

    1. My setup is my mom’s old IBM Thinkpad A22M (a hand-me-down).   Intel Pentium 524 MHz processor and 256 MB RAM.  It only has ~10 GB Hard Drive (I have to use an external plug in hard drive just to store my school work and pictures).

    2. A new laptop would be huge for me… Today, I have to stay clear of popular software like itunes and stuff because my laptop just won’t handle it.  I would love to be win something that would help me be finally connect to the most common things, have wifi like everyone else, and not have to lug around a separate usb hard drive.  :)

  • choochoo

    1. Okay, right now, I’m using a very memory-challenged Gateway laptop bought in an emergency after my old laptop bit it. Every time I get email, a window pops up and say, guess what? You’re running out of disk space. Crazy…
    2. I think this package would make my life easier in that the dv6 has great memory and movie-viewing capability, I’ll be able to take the mini with me on the road (because this heavy thing goes with me everywhere!) and, to top it off, I can carry around all the friends of the kinder in the backpack (stuffed dogs and pokemon of all shapes and sizes). Rocks!

These days, my fingers dance across a (10 year old) keyboard attached to a home-built system. With 8GB of RAM, some sort of AMD Opteron 64 (my memory fails me), and the best video card $50 could buy, I often attempt to write software, compose emails, and otherwise idle my time at that keyboard. I am certain I splurged and purchased a 1.5TB (well, that’s TBi or TiB or something,) drive. I believe I have 1.499TB free on it at the moment. But I’m future proof there, at least. Oh, and a MS trackball. One that gums. A lot.

    So let’s see, that’s:
2.something GHz AMD Opteron something something
    8GB RAM
NVidia video card of questionable lineage (9something something something)
    10 year old keyboard
1,500,000,000 bytes of magnetic media in a glass plater. Made by Seagate.
    A gummy MS trackball.

Now, owning a perfect duo such as the HP dv6 and mini 110 would open all new possibilities for me to escape from the shackles of my shameful existence at the desk with the aforementioned computer. For starters, I’d be able to actually work from a comfortable room in the house. Any room but the basement would be a welcome change. That’s what the dv6 would get me. Oh, sure, its Core Duo processor and long battery life would be great for, say working on web sites for friends, family, and profit. I’d even lend that to my fiancee so she could continue her course development and design work. Oh the places we could explore with that laptop. In the house, that is. I believe there’s a family room up there somewhere. Possibly with a TV. I bet I could use the laptop and watch TV at the same time.

As for the mini 110, we’re actually leaving the house with that one. Like, say, on that hour long commute my fiancee and I currently enjoy. That’s a great amount of time to get some of our work done composing great sonnets. Well, my fiancee might do that, anyway — she’s the creative one. I bet she’d also appreciate having the ability to spend more time on her blog. I might even be able to start one. Imaging the possibilities! We decide to head out on that great expanse of highway. Past the construction markers and reduced lanes (we live in Chicago), we find a spot by the road. A perfect spot. The kind of spot that calls out for quiet reflection and a sudden burst of creative inspiration. I could start one of those stories I’ve always wanted to start. She could write that email to her mother she always wants to write.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it wouldn’t be all creative, inspirational work that would be occurring between the two of us on these computers, we do produce some serious web site work. I’ve written a whole 30 lines of code, to date, and I believe she has a great start on the home page. Those two wonderful pieces of gear would do wonders for our combined productivity. That there’s a bag and sync software to boot is just icing on the cake.

    1. I have an HP something. I’m not that great with computer vocab sorry.

    2. Oh it would make it WAY easier because I just started college two weeks ago and I NEED a great working computer. Mine was dropped (I swear not by me) and the monitor or whatever it’s called, is falling off. Thankfully it still kind of works. I’m using it right now. The thing is the battery does not last longer than 30 minutes sometimes up to an hour though. Other times I turn it on and it takes also about 15 minutes or so to start up after that it’s REALLY slow and freezes up a lot. I’m telling you, I NEED THIS!

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?

My computer is a HP desktop:
    – Intel Celeron processor. 2.70 GHz.
    – 1GB of RAM.
    – Integrated sound and video card.
    – No speakers.
    – 15″ CRT monitor.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

About a year or so ago, I was experiencing computer issues that ultimately resulted in the computer crashing and not starting up again. It was right around the time classes started and I needed a new computer desperately. Tight for cash and time caused me to look at online deals between strangers. I found a computer that was for $200 and promised Windows XP, Microsoft Office, and a reasonable processor speed. I took the deal with the devil and ended up with the computer I’m using now with my entire family. When I got it into my place and hooked it up, the anti-virus software already installed alerted me of a many serious viruses. It turns out the stranger I bought the computer from had pirated Windows XP as well as Microsoft Office. It took days until I was finally able to make it virus-free. I have no Microsoft Office and because of the pirated version of Windows XP I cannot install updates to my computer. Half of the programs I need for school will not install.

I’ve been forced to use friend’s computers the whole school year in order to complete assignments for high school. But now I’m starting college in a week. I cannot count on other people’s computers anymore to complete my work. I need a computer that has Microsoft Office and other important programs that my college demands.

Many want new computers, but what I want is the portability and reliability this package offers. It’s not just about a computer for me. Now that I’m in college, I need to be able to have a laptop to use in class for notes as well as a laptop to take to the library for study sessions (HP Mini 110) and a laptop to have in my dorm room to work on assignments, essays, and projects (HP DV6). The syncing between laptop computers will help immensely for so many things, such as; notes, list of assignments due, and other information given in class or found in the library. Since I am college bound now, I’ll have the opportunity for portability I always wished of having after sharing one computer with a large family and was always a hassle to do work. I’m also taking a couple online courses and having the access to a computer at all times will allow me to submit the assignments in earlier and get more things done.

This current computer also has a tendency to freeze and have to be shut down at random times, coincidentally it usually happens while I’m doing school work, causing me to lose everything I just worked on and typed out. As I mentioned before, I share the computer with my family so the time I have on it is very valuable to me. I’d really love the reliability this package offers, as well as the portability. The bag is incredibly stylish and handy as well. I appreciate the opportunity to win this amazing offer and I hope I have the chance to move to college with less stress packed on than needed!

    1. What kind of computer setup are you using now?

I am using my Compaq Presario desktop, it was the first my family brought when we moved here.

    2. How would owning this package make your computing life easier?

Owning this package would my life easier by allowing me to do my college assignments online because I go to an online university (American Military University amu.apus.edu). I would be able to easily to my homework on a more efficient computer and be able to afford this laptop from the giveaway. I will also be able complete my courses more effectively than before. Honestly, having this package would really change the course of how I do my assignments online!

    1. I use a four year old Toshiba Satellite A215 right now.
    2. This would enable me to easily compute on the go and where needed with the netbook; leaving the laptop as my central computing station where the intensive work would happen without having to unplug my ergonomic keyboard and dedicated mouse constantly when computing elsewhere. The Syncables software would of course enable easy backups and file transfers between the two. Also not to be discounted is the entertainment capabilities allowing me to save valuable money by not buying a dedicated Blu-ray disc player and high definition tv.

1.) I am currently using a HPw1907 screen & an old HP Pavillion core
with a slow DSL internet connection by loose internet cord
it is slowly being abused by my two sisters and parents who does not know how to take care of it.
