As I posted yesterday, I’m even surprised by how much I am enjoying my Blackberry Bold. I never expected to be a two-handheld guy, and the fact that I am still feels odd. The fact that the second handheld is a BB is even more striking. THAT, however, wasn’t the biggest gadget surprise in our home this week, though.
This is…
Elana LOVES the Palm platform. She’s used it for years and has rejected any and every attempt I have made to move her to a more modern platform. (She did humor me for a week last year by trying the iPhone, but I don’t think she was ever really open to the possibility of making the move.) ]
Then Elana rubbed it in my face when she found an old Centro that has been outside in the elements for six months but still worked. “Think your iPhone would do that? Huh??” she said.
Then came the shock last week. Elana came into my study and said, “I’m tired of getting no reception here at home. I’m finally willing to give up the Palm if we can find one the will work better for me. Maybe a Blackberry?”
Say what?!?!?!?
So I put out word to the Gear Diary Team, and Wayne and Jason were kind enough to hook me up. I set Elana up with a BB 8900 and asked her if I should see if anyone on the team wanted the Palm or, if not, should put it up on eBay. She told me to hold off since she wasn’t so enamored of the Blackberry and might very well go back to her old standby.
“I knew it!” I thought, “She’s never getting off that platform.”
Three days went by, and with each she seemed to be warming up to the Blackberry. It went from “not so bad” to “I’m liking it more” to the big surprise yesterday… “If none of your friends want it, go ahead and put it up on eBay”.
And so here we are. There are now two Blackberry users in my house. In addition, my mother-in-law, brother-in-law and sister all have BBs. Better still… Elana’s final (?) Palm is up on eBay and looking for a new home.

As far as I can tell, Elana is finally done with Palm… unless of course Palm wants to swap the survivor of all survivor Centros for a Pre…. ![]()
