dreamcast

So today was 9-9-09, and that got me thinking….

10 years ago today my eyes felt like they were being burned with battery acid, but there was no way they were getting peeled from my TV screen. I was still settling in for my freshman year of college at Ashland University, and much to the dismay of my grades, sleep patterns, and wallet the Sega Dreamcast was released on this day 10 years ago.

I still find the Dreamcast to be one of my favorite consoles from the past, quite frankly if I could get my hands on one there is no doubt I would spend the better part of 48hours playing Crazy Taxi! While we were still a year away from the release of the Sony PS2, I found this system to be probably one of the most revolutionary from a graphics standpoint at least! There was nothing revolutionary about the sound from the fan which made you feel like you were in a wind tunnel or the controller that was the size of a small shoebox. However, the release titles made for a long few days after release. Between Soul Calibur, NFL 2k, NBA 2k, and so on my bank account was empty, sleep bank was empty, and textbooks were untouched.

Ahhh the life of a Gamer, what memories!

Now for some general conversation, what is a release that kept you up for days at a time? I know I can’t be the only one; at least Michael should share my obsession :o )
