The proof will be in how fast this thing can run. Do we have to put up with a lot of lags while typing, etc.

My biggest pet peeve with the MyTouch3G is the damn thing nearly shuts down on me while it syncs email with Google. It will respond to the screen but oh-so-slowly…

First Android to get rid of the lags will then be able to (begin to) compete directly with iPhone.

@Joel – Looks like a great handset and a worthy successor to the G1. I wonder what HTC will announce to replace the G1? Are you worried at all about long-term upgradability of the OS, since it has been heavily customized, as compared to the HTC/Google versions on the G1 and myTouch 3G?

I have about 1 year until my G1 is up and unless something else better comes along, this may be my next phone. I like what Motorola has done here vs the sens interface. Motoblur is a change but the phone is still very much a Android like interface. Not as drastic as the HTC Sense interface. I like it.
