Well looks like calling to any mobile number for free is the “Game Changer” that Sprint was talking about, I’m not sure that I would consider it a game changer…but who am I to judge. What it does do is put pie in the face of the ‘Fav 5′ of T-Mobile, and completely steals the thunder of AT&T starting a similar ‘Fav’ plan. So much for editing your 5 monthly, now you get to call any mobile phone. Now if Sprint could only shake that “Are you really dating HER?” reputation they have!
This new plan will be automatically added to Everything Data plan subscribers and allows for unlimited free calls to or from any mobile phone. There’s no need for a limited circle of friends or to worry about only calling subscribers on your own carrier. This is free mobile to mobile calling without restrictions on the carrier. Sprint’s Everything Data plans smartly roll in unlimited SMS, MMS and BlackBerry Internet Service with no added fees. If you’re not on an Everything Data Plan you can swwitch without renewing your agreement.

Hopefully nobody is buying the $89 plan (900 minutes) without considering that the $99 plan is only $10 more but offers unlimited calling plus (as the cheaper plan does) included unlimited SMS/MMS and data (including BlackBerry if you have one)

And I also find this a bit of a “weird” add-on.
On the surface it sounds fine — but am I supposed to ask people who I can if I can have their mobile number? This seems a bit gimmicky.

I do understand your point about the $89 vs. $99 but for some the add’l minutes may not matter if most of their calls are made to mobiles, which is probably the case these days, so why not save the $10.
I guess I never thought about the angle of having to get mobile numbers, also would be nice to know of the mobile numbers would have to be registered as the “Circle” plans do or if their systems could just recognize by prefixes.
Personally I like this move by Sprint, it is their version of a “your mama” joke in a crowded playground fight! Will be interesting to see how VZW, ATT, or T-Mobile responds. This could be the beginning of “Carrier Wars”

Hmm. If I had a good reason to move to Sprint this would make them a lot more attractive. Most of my friends only have mobile numbers these days; the only landlines I call are businesses and my parents. And I usually only reach my parents at home after 9pm, so a good chunk of the time I’m reach them on their cell phones anyway.
For the no-landline crowd this is really cool.

As a sales gimmick this is slightly better than AT&T’s announcement yesterday that they’re catching up to the other carriers who for years have offered unlimited calling to your favorite xx numbers……
Too bad that T-Mobile offers their 5 number (MyFaves) calling on plans as cheap as $39 versus AT&T’s newly announced A-List which only applies to plans starting at $59
It’s all about the upsell

Clueless question – do wireless vendors still charge for incoming calls?

I believe they do charge for incoming calls as well as outgoing calls.
And I agree, Wayne…AT&T’s plan looks even less attractive now. So you can pay close to what Sprint will charge you for a near-unlimited plan for JUST voice. Crazy.
