Over on PocketPC Thoughts, I saw that UAE based PDA Manufacturer i-mate has called it quits, and CEO Jim Morrison is rumored to have left the country. Including Palm’s defection, this makes two Windows Mobile manufacturers either closing down or leaving Windows Mobile behind this week.
Microsoft has a lot more competition now with the iPhone, Android and webOS all vying for a part of the smartphone market. Windows Mobile 6.5 looks good, but is still not where it needs to be. Windows Mobile 7 had better be really great in order for the platform to be around much longer.
Also on ITP and Engadget Mobile.

I can’t say as I’m surprised by any of this other than the fact that it took so long to happen after HTC began self-branding their devices. At the same time, I’m sorry to see them go- my first three smartphones were from them and, as a result, I will always have a soft post for them.

I remember when the JasJar came out and I really wanted one. Now? Not so much. I was a huge Windows Mobile fan back in the Toshiba e740 days and even paid for a PocketPC Thoughts subscription when they did that a while ago. Windows Mobile certainly is not as hot as it once was.
