Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! Two big games and a whole lotta ‘other’ this week: Halo 3: ODST for the XBOX360 and Shin Megami Tensei: Persona for the PSP. Persona is the PSP remake of the the highly regarded original entry in the franchise, and has gotten very positive early reviews. Halo 3: ODST is the follow-up to the original XBOX360 game and is destined to sell heavily despite getting merely solid reviews.

This week seems to be PC MMO week – we get Aion: Tower of Eternity, Dungeon Fighter Online, and Fallen Earth, as well as the Square Enix strategy game Order of War. Everything else seems like just some special-interest filler unlikely to get much attention at this time of year. Anyway, check out the list!

Some notes from last week:

  • Need for Speed: Shift
  • - They took a gamble shifting focus, and it paid off as this is one of the better entries in the series!

  • Scribblenauts
  • - Simply stated, this is an imperfect masterpiece.

  • Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story
  • - Who knew that this would be one of the best games this year?

  • Majesty 2: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim
  • - I missed the original, but this is an excellent fantasy kingdom builder!

What games am I playing now?:

  • PC: Red Faction Guerrilla – finally arrived for PC and after playing the first two on the GamersGate deal, this is definitely the best yet.
  • PC: Batman Arkham Asylum – loads of fun, though I’m not sure it lives up to the hype for me.
  • PC: Resident Evil 5 – not the best RE game (#4 holds that one for me) but this is *so* much better than the last PC entry!
  • PC: Star Wars Jedi Academy – grabbed the collection on Steam, wanted to get further in my replay of this one!
  • PC: Hearts of Iron III – nice World War II based turn-based / real-time hybrid strategy game. Still early on, but it is getting intense!
  • PC: Majesty 2 – sequel to a popular (almost a decade ago) real-time city-building sim. Just getting engaged.
  • PC: Evil Islands – getting near the end but having a hard time keeping focus.
  • PSP: Gran Turismo – one of those ‘if you weren’t waiting for 3 years you’d be happy’ sorts of games … good, but still disappointing nbased on the wait and the hype.
  • PSP: Dissidia: Final Fantasy – the fun has fworn off as the flaws outpace the good parts.
  • PSP: Disgaea 2 – d00d! So much fun!
  • PSP: IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey – bought on impulse … not too bad as a WWII flight combat game.
  • DS: Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box – I barely started this when my wife took my DS Lite and the game into her possession and I haven’t seen them since!
  • DS: Scribblenauts – this is really excellent, wish there were more hours in the day!

If you couldn’t guess, my playlist has officially been infected with the ‘Fall Release Deluge’ bug …

So what are you playing? Chime in below!

Enjoy gaming!
