I’m quite happy using the iPhone/iPod touch RSS reader Newsstand these days. Since its last update it syncs beautifully with Google Reader. In addition, it offers a terrific set of added functionality such as integration with Twitter, Instapaper and ReadItLater.
It is fast, it is stable and it is quite enjoyable to use. (Heck, even Larry who cursed me out for encouraging him to buy YET ANOTHER RSS app had to admit it is worth purchasing!)
Still, word that the new version of NetNewsWire for iPhone is on the way and, like its desktop cousin, syncs with Google Reader has me pretty happy.
According to the NetNewsWire Beta site (via Patrick at JAiB) it is already submitted to Apple for approval. That means it will be out and available… well, we’re dealing with Apple so lets leave it at “it is already submitted to Apple for approval”.
Will it become my RSS reader of choice? Perhaps, but it will have to do a few things to make that happen. First, it will have to have all the features Newsstand does. Second, it will have to fix the ergonomics of the app by relocating the “Next Post” button from its place in the upper right to the bottom.
Either way I’m looking forward to it being released.

NetNewsWire is nice…I used it when I used Newsgator. I never had any issues with it.
Just hope they don’t randomly lose interest in it like they did with their consumer Newsgator line. :/

I’ve been using Byline on my iPhone for syncing my RSS on the phone with Google Reader, and I really love it. The one thing I don’t like about the NNW desktop application (though I love the sync) is that it doesn’t do starred items as well as Byline does. I star a lot of things in Google Reader for future reference, and I really love that Byline handles it so well.

I rarely use the star function these days. Instead I sent articles I want to read right to Instapaper. Works much better for me.
