The major update to Pocket Informant we reported on a few weeks back is now live in the App Store. Version 1.1 of PI brings some significant improvements to a rapidly maturing iPhone/iPod touch application.

I have been using a pre-release version of it for a number of weeks and I can honestly say that this version has allowed me to finally get rid of having separate calendar and task apps on my iPhone. For me the biggest improvement is in the task management. In the initial release it was a convenience but could not compete with some of the excellent standalone task apps. With this update to version 1.1 that is no longer the case. The task management is excellent, the available functions and configurations extensive and the integration with Toodledo seamless. PI has a permanent place in my dock. I use rely on it that much.

Among the most significant changes…

Push Alarms for events and tasks

Automatic sync of changes with a full two way sync every 45 minutes

Filters so you can better access your tasks and appointments

Tasks in calendar view

Support for task times, quick insert and groupings

Support for landscape mode

Overall speed and stability improvements.

In all it is a major update to an already excellent app.

Here is a quick video look…

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen

Crashed on the iPod Touch after install but a painless uninstall-reinstall all is well. Nice app.
