Cut the cord already! The VTech DS6321-3 will help.

I cut the cord a long time ago, as I am sure many reading this already have also. What is the use of a home land line if all I ever use is my cell phone?  But if any of you have a house like mine, then you have a toddler that will run off and hide everything in sight…including my cell phone! VTech has just released the DS6321-3, their expandable cordless phone which connects wirelessly through Bluetooth to you cell phone….actually it will connect to 2 cell phones at the same time!

You may be saying, “OK, so what? There are a handful of other phones that do this.” What sets this unit apart is the fact that it will download and save 6,000 phonebook entries from up to 4 different cell phones, which allows you to keep your cell stashed away safe, and you won’t have to hunt for it whenever you need to find a number in your address book. Aside from this feature, and that fact that you can have 2 cell phones connected simultaneously, here are some of the VTech’s other features:

Key Features
Answering System
Additional Features

Personally, I think the other main highlight of this phone is the DECT 6.0 frequency used; this is a new frequency that operates at a level above the normal 2.4 or 5.8GHz units, and  it is not affected by a home wireless network as some others are. This new technology also boasts a range of up to 1200′; yeah you read that right – 1200′. If that holds true, then I could be at the baseball field in the spring coaching with my cordless phone in my pocket and still get calls! I might be able to take two of the handsets to the field and use the ‘intercom’ feature to make the “call to the bullpen”!

So you might be saying, “that’s all well and good, but how much will it cost me?” The answer is under $100. With three handsets – and all of the technology for only $99.95, this is a great deal for any of you that are thinking of dropping your home lines.

The VTech DS6321-3 is currently available from the manufacturer’s website for $99.95 plus shipping. It will be available in BJ’s and Best Buy stores nationwide.

I’ll have to admit that this looks very interesting. Trying to get a general feel for whether this is a good deal for our house or not and wondering about the V-Tech quality over the years. From the quick review here it looks like a winner for us, but I’ll want to at least see one before buying.

How are calls on Speaker? We use that somewhat regularly with other people and to allow easy hands-free when we need it. I’m not as interested in the answering machine because we use an outside Voice Mail, but I’m sure that can be turned off. I’d love to hear a bit more about this after a little more real-world use if that’s possible. :)

All of this information in this post was actually from reviewing the press release and checking the spec sheet. Since I have been in touch with the PR company that gave us the initial release and to date they do not yet have any review units available.

If that changes and we are given the opportunity to review a test unit we will definitely post our findings.
