A while back I reviewed a new genre of app, 23 Ways to Destory Your Defender, that can be used to assist basketball coaches and players.  The app is a collection of videos that teach different basketball ball handling moves made famous by NBA players.  23 Ways is a really nice application, and while coaches can use it, it is really geared toward the player.  Level X Hoops has recently expanded their sports offerings with five new apps that truly focus on coaching.  Most coaches build a professional library of videos and clinic notes.  Personally, I want to learn all of it.  Maybe I will not run all of the moves, but my opponent might, and I want to understand how they are attacking or defending me.

The new offerings include one new app featuring Ganon Baker who is a world renowned basketball skills trainer.  The other apps are part of the Basketball Toolbox series and are instructed by long time coach Lason Perkins.  Instructions and white board diagrams will help coaches learn offensive philosophies against zone, man to man and full court defenses, as well as improve scoring opportunities in the paint.

Mastering The Ball Screen With Ganon Baker

Ganon Baker explains all aspects of the ball screen including positioning, attacking skills, scoring skills and drills to teach each of these.

Scoring Against Zone Defenses

Coach Perkins diagrams and explains six offensive series taken from some of the best playbooks in the nation.

Scoring Against Man to Man Defenses

A mixture of quick hitter and continuity offensive sets to use against man to man defenses, including the spread and flex offenses.

Punch It In!  10 Great Plays To Score Inside The Paint

Learn 10 different plays to get the ball into the paint.  These plays include box sets as well as several screen plays.

Beating Full Court Pressure

Coach Perkins diagrams multiple schemes to defeating the press.  Different types of full court pressure defenses are considered in the instruction.

Once again Level X Hoops has brought well made apps for coaches to the iPhone, and I hope to see this style of app continue to expand and develop.  Apps for football coaches could also be a great market for the developers to enter.  These apps are all available from the links above, or they canbe found in the app store for $2.99 or $3.99.  These are great prices, considering the average cost of coaching DVDs is $39.95.
