Posted on 18 September 2009

If you’ve been openly sharing documents that you’ve created in Google Docs then you may want to take another look at your settings just to make sure those documents are ok for public consumption. Google today sent around notice early today that in a few weeks documents, spreadsheets and presentations that you’ve explicitly published outside your organization and that are linked to from a public site will be crawled and indexed. This means they’ll appear in search results you (and the rest of the world) sees on Google.com and other search engines. Fortunately there’s a way to prevent the world from seeing next years’ company payroll spreadsheet that someone mistakenly shared publicly by setting certain administrative controls in the Google Apps Control panel. Windows Moble Manufacturer i-mate Calls it Quits.

Posted on 18 September 2009

Over on PocketPC Thoughts, I saw that UAE based PDA Manufacturer i-mate has called it quits, and CEO Jim Morrison is rumored to have left the country. Including Palm’s defection, this makes two Windows Mobile manufacturers either closing down or leaving Windows Mobile behind this week. Microsoft has a lot more competition now with the iPhone, Android and webOS all vying for a part of the smartphone market.  Windows Mobile 6.5 looks good, but is still not where it needs to be.  Windows Mobile 7 had better be really great in order for the platform to be around much longer. Also on… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Posted on 18 September 2009

During yesterday’s earnings call Palm announced they’d shipped 823,000 smartphone units last quarter (no breakdown on how many were Pre devices), beat earnings estimates and said their future growth will depend upon on how well their products launch. While no specifics were given about launches the company did hint that in the second half of 2010 they will be launching the WebOS based devices on more carriers. Perhaps most interesting is that according to website Precentral during the conference call Palm made this statement: Due to importance of webOS to our overall strategy, we’ve made the decision to dedicate all future develoment resources to the evolution of webOS. Which means that going forward, our roadmap will include only Palm webOS-based Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Posted on 18 September 2009

The onslaught of SUVs in the 1990s and crossover utility type vehicles of the new millennium have kept minivan sales numbers from returning to those of their glory days – but automakers are still makin’ ‘em and folks are still buyin’ ‘em. Because of that, the Honda Odyssey minivan has had a target on its back almost since its inception.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Technology meets Tradition

Posted on 18 September 2009

Growing up my family was somewhat religious.  We celebrated all of the Jewish holidays, went to temple, I became Bar Mitzvah and was Confirmed.  We did most of the things a typical Jewish American family does. Like many young adults, I suspect, once I moved away from home I became less observant. I didn’t belong to a synagogue and lived far enough away from my parents that coming home for the holidays wasn’t always possible. Once I got married and started a family of my own though, my wife and I decided it would be important for both ourselves and our children to reconnect.  We joined a local synagogue and began to bring it back into our lives. My kids started in Sunday school and we began going to services as a family.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
