Review: Pzizz for iPhone/iPod Touch

Posted on 03 September 2009

Feeling worn down, stressed out, or just not getting enough quality sleep?  Guess what — yep! — there’s an app for that. Pzizz (pronounced puh-zizz) may be just what you need.  In the most simple terms, Pzizz Relax is a power-nap app. Using the application religiously over the past two weeks I can say it is much more. The application is  new for the iPhone/iPod Touch, but it’s been around for quite some time for the  Mac/PC — and those earlier versions have been reviewed by Gear Diary as well as the original “Pzizz player” on the Gadgeteer. So, is an application that can help relieve daily stress, promote relaxation, and maybe even help give a boost during those long work days something worth a slot on your iPhone?… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

AT&T Establishes Calendar Standard For USA

Posted on 03 September 2009

Please note- AT&T has now determined that the official end of summer occurs on September 25. As you likely know, when the iPhone 3GS was announced AT&T was conspicuously missing from the list of providers and announced they would implement the service “late summer”. As we noted last week in our open letter to the company, they seemed to have their own idea what “later summer” meant. Now AppleInsider is reporting that, as Chris noted in an email to the GDTeam- “There’s one mystery solved.” Now only one question is left- With so many ways to share pictures form the iPhone, who the heck… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Gear Deal: Good Old Games Offers Awesome 1-Year Anniversary Special!

Posted on 03 September 2009

In some ways it is hard to believe that Good Old Games is already a year old, and in other ways it feels like they’ve been around forever. Good Old Games has quickly become a sensation, selling classic games as DRM-free digital downloads guaranteed to work in Windows XP or Vista – all for $5 – 10! To celebrate their first anniversary, they are offering the very same special that launched the service – buy one Interplay game, get another one free. Interplay was one of the first two publishers to join the site (the other was Codemasters), and is responsible for classics such as Fallout 1 & 2 among many others. “Looking back at the first year Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Apple retail store robbery

Posted on 03 September 2009

What is the world coming to!  Not even precious Apple stores are safe from crime.  :) I caught this story on my local news last night and now it seems its getting national attention. A couple of thieves decided to break into an Apple store last night. They smashed the familiar glass front of the Apple retail store in Evesham, NJ, and they made quick work of gathering up 14 iPhones, 24 Mac Book Pros and 9 iPod Touches.  Seems they grabbed all the demo units they could carry. Wonder if we’ll see some cheap iPhones show up on Ebay very soon… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

NYT: AT&T’s Love/Hate Relationship With The iPhone

Posted on 03 September 2009

I love when old media gets its technology reporting right, as the NYTimes did in their article on A&T and the iPhone yesterday. The article says it all in the second line of the piece- “It’s a data guzzler.” How much so? Well think of it this way: the iPhone is sucking so hard on AT&T’s data pipeline that the entire system gets slowed to a crawl. The end result is that ALL devices on the system slow down, drop calls, or just connect in an evermore glitchy manner. Sound familiar?? There are a few key points in the article which, while nothing new, pull it all together in a way that makes it easier than ever to think maybe AT&T wasn’t being a total idiot when preventing applications like Slingplayer from using the 3G pipeline. The standout points…… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

HTC Sprint Hero Makes its US Debut

Posted on 03 September 2009

There is no doubt that HTC is leading the pack when it comes to Android hardware; today marks their latest release, the Sprint Hero. Highlights for this CDMA hadset include a 5. 0 megapixel camera with video recording capabilities that is “enhanced with HTC Footprints an application experience that provides the ability to take notes and audio clips of that favorite restaurant or special place while identifying its specific location using the included GPS.” Everyone who has ever complained about their device not having one will want to note that the Hero has a 3.5mm headphone jack.  There’s no built-in keyboard, so it’s not my dream device…yet, anyway. The HTC Hero is the first device to include HTC Sense, an intuitive experience designed to put people at the center. HTC Sense allows the device to be completely customized encouraging the user to put what is most important to them at their fingertips. A seven panel home screen features the ability to change scenes from work, home, travel ect… thus providing the most important information at the right time. Being built on the Android platform, the HTC Hero offers rich mobile internet capabilities with built-in Google mobile services, including Google Search, [...]

Logitech Introduces Two New Squeezebox WiFi Music Players

Posted on 03 September 2009

I’ve got a Logitech Squeezebox Boom that is an absolute pleasure to use. It’s one of those products that seems interesting but maybe not necessary, until you actually get one and start using it. That’s when you get spoiled…quickly. I use mine to listen to Sirius Radio inside the house, but I also use it for exploring internet radio and streaming music from my laptop. The sound on mine is pretty amazing, and it looks great sitting under our 55″ flatscreen TV with all the other shiny black components. Logitech has just announced two new Squeezebox WiFi music player models, and the new features are pretty impressive. The new Squeezebox Radio is a compact (5.12″ x 8.66″ x 5.04″) and portable model that can fit nearly anywhere and adds a new social networking aspect, wherein “Facebook users can share music recommendations and see their friends’ recommendations right on the display and Flickr users can show a slideshow.”… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

OnLive ‘Cloud Gaming Service’ Opens Beta Sign-ups

Posted on 03 September 2009

One of the banes of being a hardcore PC gamer is the constant hardware upgrade treadmill. Last year a new startup company promised to change that! OnLive technology promised the ability to run the latest adn greatest games over a high-speed internet connection using a modest computer on the client side. The innovation is on server-side processing of all the challenging graphical information. Now OnLive is preparing to enter beta testing and has opened up a site as discussed on their official blog.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
