Welcome back to the Final Week of the Direct2Drive 5th Birthday Sale! Over the past several years more and more of the PC gaming industry has moved to Digital Downloads, and while Steam definitely has the dominant position, Direct2Drive has seen tremendous success and growth. Now they have hit their 5-year anniversary and WE get the presents! Week 1 featured Ubisoft & strategy games, Week 2 had Action games, Week 3 had RPG / MMORPG games, Week 4 had PC/Mac ‘Indie’ Games, and now we are up to the final week featuring War Games! Read on to find out more – and to get some updates!
First off, as I mentioned previously I discovered during Week 2 that you could only buy 3 games in a 24 hour period. Last week I was told that you could actually buy more – one person bought 5 games at once. I’ve not confirmed that, but sounds good if it is true!
The other thing is something I thought was obvious but is a question I have been asked repeatedly (mainly because I used the word ‘expired’ in my post): everything that was ever on sale remains on sale until the end of the Promo. So Bioshock is STILL $5, as is Drakensang, and so on. So don’t think you’ve missed out – all of the bargains are still there!
Once again this week I’m not sure if I’ll be adding anything, since I already own most of the games here (7/10), and most of what I have is digital. I might grab the Hearts of Iron II Collection – I’m still grinding away at the very-difficult Hearts of Iron III so I’m intrigued.
According to two entries on Twitter:
The 5th and FINAL week of D2D Turns 5 is here! Get awesome war games for $5 EACH now! http://bit.ly/LQHVo
Week 5 $5 games – Supreme Commander Gold, Company of Heroes Gold, World in Conflict Gold, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Dark Crusade & more!
But wait, there’s more! Buy one $5 game and get automatically entered in our contest to win ALL 50 GAMES! http://bit.ly/LQHVo
As stated, over the next five weeks 50 games will be chopped to $5 – this week with 10 games from the RPG / MMO game genres. There are some really good choices – Drakensang is one of the better RPG releases in the past few years, and Elven Legacy is a very nice strategy-RPG. Titan Quest takes the Diablo franchise into Greek mythology, and the sequel Neverwinter Nights is better than the original. The expansion Storm of Zehir adds loads of stuff, but I wish they had the superlative Mask of the Betrayer expansion instead. There are a few MMO’s here – Eve Online, Planetside and Age of Conan … but the major cost of those is the monthly subscription! The last couple – Assassin’s Creed and Grand Theft Auto, are solid games but not really RPG.
There are also some teasers on the site of what to expect in coming weeks:
