Clinton Fitch is somewhat of a legend in the handheld device world. A long-time Windows Mobile MVP and owner of clintonfitch.com, he has made a name for himself as one of the best, most knowledgeable people in the world of Windows Mobile.

But here is the thing. Technology is always changing. Our device needs are always changing. As a result, no matter how devoted we are to a particular device or platform there may come a time when we open our eyes to something better suited to our current needs. I mean, heck, did I ever think I would be carrying a Blackberry and LIKING IT??

So yes, Clinton has made a change.

He is still using his WM device…

… but there is a new device sitting right beside it. And that little device goes by the name…

iPhone!!!!!

Clinton’s Actual iPhone… Go Figure!

Yes, Clinton Fitch is using an iPhone and… LIKES IT!

As he explains,

I really do like the platform. It has a lot going for it and it is very clear where other mobile platforms are lacking. That said, this one isn’t perfect either – don’t believe there is one – but it is really, really good.

And there are reasons. Two good ones in fact. First, the move to iPhone was partly driven by Clinton’s company’s strategic move to eliminate BlackBerry’s from their enterprise. Second, it was partly driven by Clinton’s desire to expand his own personal horizons on devices and platforms.

Both are good reasons to check out something new AND remain one of the experts on Windows Phone.

Now lets be clear…

Clinton is still a Windows Mobile MVP.

BUT… CLINTON FITCH GOT AN IPHONE!!!

When you think about it… yesterday AT&T announced that VOiP would be allowed over 3G and today Clinton (who works in the VoIP industry!!!) came out as a new iPhone-user. If those two things can happen… ANYTHING CAN!

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen

I think it is always great to see someone try something new; it only makes you better able to appreciate and/or critique what you are used to. :-)
