This entry is part 19 of 33 in the series GearGames Weekly

Boy_and_his_blob_wii

Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! This week has a ton of games, but is actually rather thin on the top level blockbusters. First and foremost is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, which we featured in a beta code contest here, and has already been receiving sterling reviews. The other obvious one is Brutal Legend, the delayed-by-legal-wrangling game which is from Tim Shaeffer (famous for LucasArts adventure games and recently Psychonauts), and is a tie-in to the movie of the same name. Also, there is a game that looks like a load of fun called A Boy and His Blob, which I have featured in the headline picture.

There is also another much-delayed game which I mentioned last week – A Witches Tale for the DS, as well as a ‘Game of the Year’ edition of Fallout 3 which now includes all five post-release add-ons. There are actually plenty of solid releases I haven’t mentioned, so check out the list!

Some notes from last week:

  • NBA 2K10 X360
  • - The better of the basketball games this year.

  • NBA Live 10
  • - Solid but unspectacular.

  • Demon’s Souls
  • - Simply amazing and terribly challenging.

  • Spore Hero
  • - Decent fun but marred by some issues.

  • Wii Fit Plus
  • - Adds loads of fun whether or not you already own the original.

  • Spore Hero Arena
  • - Not many reviews, but the early looks are not great.

  • A Witch’s Tale
  • - Better than initially reviewed, but still not up to the standards set by the earlier games in the series.

  • Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes
  • - Three words: stink, stank, stunk.

  • Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
  • - Nice tactical shooter and a return to form.

  • Lucidity
  • - Fun and budget priced puzzle game marks a return of LucasArts to original adventure games.

What games am I playing now?:

  • PC: Risen – As I continue to pour hours in to this my enjoyment of this excellent but imperfect game only deepend.
  • PC: Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes – I can’t believe I bought this on impulse … greatly regretting this, as the game is dismal.
  • PSP: Persona – nice classic RPG remake, but perhaps lacking in some updates.
  • PSP: FieldRunners and Hero of Sparta – I just keep plugging away, working on both the PSP and iPhone versions at once.

So what are you playing? Chime in below!

Enjoy gaming!
