HAVA Mobile TV set to launch for iPhone

At home I’m currently running both a Slingbox and EyeTV.  I use both applications on my iPhone as well to stream both live television as well as watch my recorded programs while away from home.  Monsoon Media is set to become the third (okay fourth if you count ORB) option for live TV on the iPhone or iPod Touch when it launches its HAVA Mobile Player in the iTunes App Store tomorrow.

The HAVA Mobile Player though is a little different than both Slingbox and EyeTV in that it doesn’t require a direct connection to a computer.  Once you’ve hooked it up to a cable connection everything can be streamed to your various electronic devices (desktop, laptop, iPhone etc.) via wireless.

I’ve been a longtime user of Slingbox but the HAVA device has me really intrigued.

The application, HAVA Mobile Player will be on sale in the iTunes App Store for $9.99 which is much cheaper than the iPhone version of Slingbox.  It’ll allow users to view live TV over your iPhone or iPod Touch with high quality video playback.  This includes the ability to watch your home television service, including cable, satellite and TiVo, from anywhere in the world.

Just like the Slingbox and EyeTV, HAVA does require hardware installed at home at your cable connection, but once there you can take advantage of watching both live and pre-recorded TV anywhere you have access to Wifi.  And HAVA has several hardware options to choose from.

Everything on the iPhone will be controlled using the device’s touch screen interface.

The specs on the soon to be released iPhone app are as follows:

HAVA for iPhone:
-High quality video playback
-Remote access to HAVA device
-Enables full remote control and channel changing capabilities of any TV source such as Cable, Satellite, DVD or TiVo
-Browse program guides for schedules, series and episode descriptions (based on availability from service provider)
-”Favorites” feature allows users to label favorite channels
-Supports iPhone and iPod Touch with OS 2.2.1 or higher
