EyeTV 3G Stream Goes Bye Bye…

Larry was all excited to post about EyeTV’s easter egg that enabled streaming video from your Mac to your iPhone over 3G. Unlike Yelp which required the user to shake and shake and shake their iPhone to unlock the hidden augmented reality goodness, the EyeTV bonus was available by simply tapping the screen differently when warned about the lack of connectivity.

It was neat.
It was awesome.
And it was something that, we all knew it was too good to be true… at least for very long.

As Larry wrote in the post…

I don’t expect this version to stay in the iTunes App Store for very long so if you’re thinking of picking up an EyeTV I’d grab the application here now while you still can.

So last night Larry IMed me- “What do you think is the over/under on Apple pulling the EyeTV app?
I wrote, “Three days
He wrote, “I’ll take over… and if I win you send me the new iMac you are ordering on Tuesday when Apple tries to do an end-run on Microsoft.
Me- “And I get?
Larry, “Oops, gotta run…

Nicely played Greenberg!

Well, it wasn’t three days. It wasn’t two days. It was just one single day before Apple had their way with yet another app.

As TUAW posted,

Some test code that enabled live TV streaming over the cellular network was accidentally left in the the EyeTV App. Apple requested that we remove the code since their agreement with AT&T does not allow redirecting TV signals over the cellular network. The code was removed and a 1.0.1 version of the EyeTV app was submitted,” they told TotalApps.

Just another glorious day in the iTunes App Store!

So Larry, when can I expect the MacBook Air to be delivered??

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen
