Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! OK, you might be wondering why this is the only place NOT highlighting DJ Hero for this week. Well, while that game looks amazingly fun and will sell millions, I chose the expansion to one of the absolute best games of 2008 that got relatively little attention because it is a turn-based strategy game – King’s Bounty: Armored Princess. Of course, since we are in the midst of the Fall Gaming Avalanche, those are but the tip of the iceberg!

We get the PC release of Borderlands, which has gotten very nice reviews so far. Another one I’m looking forward to is the next entry into the ‘mindless fun’ shooter franchise Painkiller: Resurrection. Also this week is Nerf 2: N-Strike Elite which has gotten some coverage here recently.

There are just a ton of other games out this week, from a new DDR to a new CSI to a new DLC for GTA! And if that alphabet soup is too much for you, there are new Ratchet & Clank, more Ben 10, and even a video game of the mindless horror films Saw. Some notes from last week:

• FIFA Soccer 10

- Should be considered a ‘must have’ for any ‘football’ fan!

• Borderlands

- Solid co-op and solo action power this FPS focused game with RPG elements.

• WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2010

- Another solid entry into the ‘wrastlin’ franchise.

• Bakugan Battle Brawlers

- Not as bad as Beyblade, but another game that is much better done in real life.

• Astro Boy: The Movie

- Apparently the ‘lousy movie tie-in’ is alive and well again this week.

• Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

- I’m having a nice debate about whether the DS original or this port is better … bottom line is that both are excellent!

• Space Invaders Extreme 2

- Not up to the original, but still solid fun.

What games am I playing now? Well, at this point I am STILL saturated with a growing backlog … but here are a couple:

• PC: Risen – I have finished once and have two active games trying to grab every possible bit of gameplay from this wonderful game – look for a review this week.
• PSP: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars – absolutely wonderful, my favorite GTA game by far.
