Welcome to a new weekly feature here at Gear Diary! Each week, I will highlight the major Windows Mobile software releases and updates, giving you a quick feel of what’s been going on in the Windows Mobile arena in the prior week. With the recent Windows Mobile 6.5 launch, I hope to provide an overview to you Windows Phone users out there so you can put your Windows Phone to good use. Without further delay, let’s get right to it!
First stop, let’s check out the new release by Wizcode!
New Release
Wizcode’s latest, PhotoCopy Mobile, turns your Windows Phone into a fully featured photo copy machine and scanner. Using your Windows Phone in-built camera, you will now be able to scan document pages on the go and convert them to PDF documents! Scan your business cards, recipes, meeting memos or notes and store them in your PDF photo albums. No more hassle! No in-built camera? No worries! Import graphic files (currently only supports JPEG, PNG and BMP) to your Windows Phone and let PhotoCopy Mobile handles the rest.
Using this fantastic little application, I managed to scan a 15 page document, create a PDF and email it in less than 2 minutes! So if you are always on the go with lots of documents to share with your contacts, then definitely check out PhotoCopy Mobile!
MSRP: $14.95 (30-days trial)
Latest Update
Resco recently updated their popular radio and recorder software, Pocket Radio, to 2.00 for Windows Mobile. A couple of new features were implemented into this latest update, which includes a touch-friendly radio list. With Bluetooth headset support, you will now be able to listen to your favorite musics while on the go, as long as you have Internet connection!
If you have a Windows Phone with WiFi or data subscription, then Resco Pocket Radio is a must. With great streaming quality and the ability to schedule recordings, it’s a great program that I wouldn’t leave my Windows Phone without, especially when you are on the go a lot!
MSRP: $19.95 (7-days trial)
Freeware of the Week
Microsoft MyPhone, if you have not already heard, is an application that will help you back-up, restore and manage your Windows Mobile data. This application consists of a password-protected site and an on-device application. All you need to use this service is a Windows Live ID, which you can register for free if you do not have one yet.
If you’ve ever wanted to save your text messages, hated re-entering all your contact information when you bought a new phone, or wished you could easily archive some of your pictures, then I think you would be happy with Microsoft MyPhone on your device. I recommend this to everyone because you’ll no longer have to worry about losing your data in the event of a lost or damaged device. And best of all, it’s free!
MSRP: FREE!
Stay tuned for next week’s roundup for more exciting new releases, updates and freewares!
