As much as some of us might like to avoid it winter is coming.  There’s no stopping it.  Do you want to be able to hit the slopes this season and bring some of your technology with you?  There are plenty of clothing items which enable you to do so.  Jackets with built in controls for your iPod, helmets with headphones built in, heated boots and more.

Here’s two items which recently caught our eye.

Hard Mountain Refugium Jacket with Ardica System

OM3306-010x

The Mountain Hardware Refugium Jacket isn’t your plain jane winter coat.  Yes it’s a lightly insulated, low profile jacket but what makes it special is the fact that it comes pre-wired for Hard Mountain’s Ardica Heat and Power system.  The Ardica system is designed to work with the Moshi Power System.  This system not only provides continuous heat to the wearer but it also can charge the wearer’s electronic devices.

A special battery pack slides into the back of the coat and allows the wearer to enjoy up to 8.6 hours of heat on its low setting and 3 hours on high.  The power pack can also power most electronic devices that run on less than 10 watts and recharge them up to 20 times.

The jacket is available in three colors (Black, Saphire and Otter) and retails for $230.00 .  The Ardica system is sold separately and is available for $145.

You can learn more about the jacket here and the power pack here.

180s: Quantum Vent Gloves

detail

Here’s the scenario.  You’re out in the cold.  It’s really cold.  You’re listening to tunes on your iPod and want to change songs.  But you have thick gloves on, remember it’s really cold.  You don’t want to remove them for fear of loosing a digit.

What do you do?

The 180s:  Quantum Vent Gloves feature “fabric pods” located on each index finger and or thumb which allow for the operation of most touch screen devices, mp3 players and cell phones.  You keep the gloves on, keep your hands warm, and still use your device.

The glove itself is a highly water resistant, high performance ski and snowboard glove that keeps your hand flexible.

The 180s: Quantum Vent retail for $75 and are available here.

I have always had a passion for gear and gadgets. It all started for me with the release of the very first Palm Pilot. I've always had an interest in handheld electronics. From handheld PDAs, to cell phones, Mp3 players, watches and other products, I'm the first person my friends, family and colleagues call when they need advice on tech. I have roots in the online tech. forum community. I served as the Administrator to Howard Forums.com and as a Moderator at both Treo Central.com and Blackberry Forums.net. Under the screen name “lgreenberg” I've amassed 50,000+ postings. I also manage my own YouTube channel under the user name larrygreenberg. I'm always eager to help.
