This includes cases for the iPhone, LG, HTC, Samsung, Blackberry, and Nokia, all of which can be custom designed down to the last stitch. A little bit later this morning I’ll be on a plane, headed north for a whirlwind round of Windows 7 launch activities in NYC and Washington DC as Microsoft’s and HP’s guest. Wayne and Dan will be on their way into NYC as well, to attend Engadget Live, as the show engages in a “frank and unscripted one-on-one conversation” with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. We’ll meet up later in the evening for dinner, and I’m sure that we’ll have plenty to share. Be sure to check Wayne and Dan‘s twitter streams for updates throughout the day, as well as mine tonight and over the weekend; it should be fun! … Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Dealert recently appeared in the App Catalog for the Pre. At $1.99 its a very reasonable price for what it does – which is keep an eye open at all times for great shopping deals. I haven’t seen anything quite like it in terms of usefulness – most of which is caused by the ability of the application to sit in the background and constantly keep an eye out for deals.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

If there’s a smartphone company more blessed than Research in Motion I don’t know them. RIM’s made a hugely successful business out of basically selling the same damn phone in a zillion different configurations with tiny differences between models. Carrying on the tradition is the just announced BlackBerry Bold 9700 (aka Onyx). Look for it to hit AT&T and T-Mobile during November for about $199 after contract. At first this device looks cool until you notice it has the same processor as the Bold it replaces – and a mere 256 MB onboard memory versus the 1 GB of the Bold 9000. Respectably RIM axed the greaseball in favor of track pad and ROM gets a boost from the prior… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

By now you’ve probably heard that both Bing and Google will integrate real time Twitter feeds into their search results. The Bing page appears to be live already at http://www.bing.com/twitter and Google say’s their results will be coming soon. Unknown is how both search engines will filter through what probably will be an enormous uptick in Twitter spam sent in an attempt to game search results. It seems likely that Twitter will be forced to create some type of trust system to assign to individual Twitter accounts or it would seem to be a field day for automated script (or a billion) to pump out tweets about cheap mortgage loans and v1a9ra. via Bing and… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I posted yesterday that Barnes and Noble announced their new eBook reader, the Nook. Today I had the opportunity to join a conference call with William Lynch, President of BarnesandNoble.com, to hear more about the Nook and Barnes and Noble’s plans for the digital media market. In addition to learning about the Nook, the question and answer portion highlighted the confusion around ebooks and where they fit into the future of bookselling. … Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Shape Services just updated their IM+ Instant Messaging Software for BlackBerry devices. New features include a subscription based transcription of spoken messages (awesome), group chat in Skype and the ability to show (or not) your contact’s avatar. We’ve previously reviewed the iPhone version’s transcription feature as well as a version for Windows Mobile. Just like their iPhone version, the transcription service is a monthly fee ($1.99 on BlackBerry vs .99 on iPhone). The transcription works very quickly (less than 3 seconds in most cases) and is incredibly useful for anyone needing to keep two hands on the wheel. For BlackBerry users concerned about battery life (and aren’t we all) you can set IM+ for BlackBerry to run in a… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Want to complain about your BlackBerry browser, or do you want to actually do something about it? Now’s your chance. If you have the skills, it looks like RIM has some openings for WebKit Developers. RIM’s previously made their intentions to completely re-do their browser known through recent acquisitions. Are they “too little, too late?” Most BlackBerry users are already flocking to use 3rd party browsers, like Opera Mini. Meanwhile the iPhone, Palm Pre, and Android devices have long made use of WebKit based browsers. The onslaught of new devices coming out will certainly be giving BlackBerry a run for the money. Perhaps you can be the… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

There’s been a lot of talk lately about how Twitter has changed the corporate culture for Comcast. In fact, the chatter first started back in January with a big to-do in Business Week. So, is Twitter actually helping provide real customer service? Is this just a Public Relations gimick, or is it truly — um — Comcastic? Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Take a look at the above graph from Morgan Stanley Internet analyst Mary Meeker. It shows, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the iPhone/iPod touch are the fastest-growing platform in consumer electronics history. It/the out pace the Nintendo Wii by a good margin and blow away the iPod and Blackberry. That’s the good news. What’s the bad? Nothing can maintain this pace forever and in our short-sited society at the first sign of a slowdown (JUST a slowdown mind you not even a downturn) the blogosphere will be crying “The sky is falling the sky is falling”. Then again, in light of this amazing visual it is pretty clear that won’t be happening tomorrow or the day after… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I love my Livescribe Pulse Pen. I use it all the time to take notes and record random thoughts. I now have a Livescribe pad on my desk at home and one in my work study. That way I never actually need to CARRY the large notebooks. Instead I just write what I need with the Pulse Pen and then, when convenient, recreate the notes in my computer. I slao carry a small, light notepad in my briefcase for quick jots on the go. It has truly become invaluable to me and has allowed me to completely cut my ties to Windows XP Tablet. Now Livescribe has upped their game with new and improves products.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
