Apple - iPhone - Mobile phone, iPod, and Internet device.-1.jpg

For almost two and a half years I have been using my iPhone each and every day. The improvements from the first generation iPhone with OS iPhone 1.0 until now, when my iPhone 3GS runs iPhone OS 3.0 has been significant. But it has also been gradual enough that it is easy to take the incredible functionality it offers for granted. I mean, who can even remember using an iPhone that was entirely dependent on **gasp** web apps??

Yes, using my iPhone for everything from browsing the web to writing posts on the go has become as natural as putting on my shoes in the morning. Yet every now and then there is some small thing that happens where my iPhone is so useful that I am reminded just how amazing this device is. In fact, just today I was twice reminded that…

My iPhone Is Awesome Because… it means I no longer have to stop and ask for directions.

Huge AT&T Navigator Giveaway Thanks To Telenav | Gear Diary.jpg

I needed to visit someone who is ill and thought I knew where they lived but didn’t. They live in my old town so I SHOULD have known where they were. After three attempts to find the house I was about to resort to my old, and common, technique of house locating… stopping at the gas station and asking directions.

Then I remembered… I have a trial of AT&T Navigator on my iPhone. I opened the app, put in the address and… seconds later the route was set. Yes, I had driven right past their street on two occasions. Thanks to Telenav there wasn’t a third time.

(Oh, and did we happen to mention that this Thursday we are giving away three year-long subscriptions to the service?? Check this post for details!)

But there is more.

My iPhone Is Awesome Because… with it I can capture, trim, title and upload videos on the go.

With ReelDirector App Flip Loses Key Advantage Over iPhone | Gear Diary.jpg

We had the cutest little 1st grade educational program for kids and their parents today. Usually I would shoot video using my FlipHD but didn’t have access to it. Fortunately I had my iPhone 3GS and, while the video quality isn’t as good, it did the job just fine.

I was then reminded why the iPhone shines in the realm of video. As soon as a clip was shot I was able to use ReelDirector (one of my favorite new apps!) to trim video, combine videos, add transitions between videos and add opening and closing titles. Within minutes the finished video was created right on my iPhone and, thanks to a 3G connection, shared with others. Can’t do that on a Flip…

Yeah, my iPhone is awesome…
