apptizr -- discover great iPhone apps.jpg

Yesterday we posted some thoughts on the iTunes App Store and the growing challenge posed by 100,000 apps. In the current environment it is increasingly difficult for developers to their apps noticed. It is equally hard for customers to notice the apps that deserve attention. There are a number of techniques that can be employed to try to make sense of the current situation.

One approach is the “My Comfortable Old Shoes” approach. In this approach you simply stick with the apps you currently have and smile.
It is simple, it is cheap, and it avoids the headache of sorting through 100,000 apps in the App Store.

Another approach is the “More Is Always Better” approach. In this approach you simply spend hours each day combing through the various RSS feeds that display updated and new applications. It is a full-time job but then again since “more is always better” it is certainly worth the time and the effort.

There is, however, a third approach. This approach uses an intelligent sorting system to rate the apps that you currently have and then use those current likes and dislikes to sort through all of the new apps in an automated manner. That’s the idea behind the new system Apptizr. Apptizr “captures individual user’s interests to make personal app recommendations. Users can receive app recommendations both on the Apptizr website and via a weekly email.”

Does this sound like something that might be useful to you? Is it something you would like to see before the general public? If so read on…

The mission of this new free service is…

Apptizr was founded in 2009 with the mission of making it easy for you to find great mobile applications based on your individual interests. With over 100K apps approved by the Apple App Store, finding high quality apps that match your interests is like finding a needle in the haystack. Apptizr does the heavy lifting through our proprietary algorithm that matches the users’ interest with the right apps. The engine is smart enough to learn more about our users’ preferences over time as they tell us whether they liked the recommendations we made. We also evaluate the applications for quality and only recommend the best apps in each category to our users.

I tried the system and found it easy to use. You simply let the system know which apps you have and which you like and dislike. So far I’m pretty impressed with it and with so many apps now available this kind of approach is more than welcome.

The developer behind Apptizr has made 200 slots available for you, our readers, to give Apptizr a try. If you are interested, read through the Q & A that follows. At the end of the list you’ll find the URL to give the service a try and the special Gear Diary invite code. The first 200 readers to use it get in on the ground floor…

You can do this as many times as you like, as often as you like.
