There are hundreds of iPhone cases available in the marketplace right now. Many fall into the same category. Mid-price range, plastic or silicone materials, decent protection and no custom options. Not the case with the Leather Flip Case from Shinnorie.
The Shinnorie case falls into a class almost all by itself. Hand crafted from ultra high quality leather the flip case can be custom built to your specifications. It wraps your iPhone in a soft protective cocoon yet still allowing full access to your device when you need it.
You might think all this custom work and expensive materials come with a super high price tag. You’d be wrong. The Shinnorie Leather Flip Case brings custom design to the consumer for a very affordable price.
Shinnorie was kind enough to allow me to go through the entire process of building my own Leather Flip Case which they let me keep to do this review.
The first step in the design process is to head to the Shinnorie web site and pull up the page for the Leather Flip Case. The page includes a flash based design feature that actually shows exactly how your case will look when it’s built.
The “Main Color” is the over all color of the case (the front and back, top and bottom) while the “Secondary Color” includes the closure tab and inside.

You then choose if you’d like your case to use a snap closure method or a loop/tab one.

And finally you can add a D-ring style hook and matching G-hook.

After you’re all done you’ll see exactly how your finished case will look when it arrives.
I choose rather conservative colors for my flip case but there is a wide variety (15) of more colorful options to choose from.
My case arrived in a sturdy box. The packaging includes one screen protector as well.

The leather is soft and feels great in the hand. It’s one of those cases that you know will just look and feel better as it ages.

I chose the snap closure method and had it made it white. The cut out for the camera lens on the back of the case lines up perfectly.

One end of the inside of the case contains the area where your iPhone slips into. This half of the inside of the case is plastic cradle where your iPhone sits.
It features a soft backing made from microfiber which protects the back of your device from scratching.

The phone snaps into the case and it held securely by four clips at each corner of the case. I did not have any issue with these clips scratching the chrome bezel of my iPhone.

The opposite side of the inside features a soft layer of leather which protects your iPhone’s screen when the case is closed.

The Shinnorie logo is embossed and placed subtlety on the back of the case.

When it comes time to use the phone the flap simply folds out of the way. You can type, talk, surf the web, do all the functions on your phone that you normally do without the flap getting in your way.

When you’re done you flip it back over to protect the screen and secure it.

The Leather Flip Case from Shinnorie is case built with style and function. It can be custom colored to your specifications allowing you to choose from 15 different color options. Want a more conservative case like the one I built? Done. Want to go a little more wild and choose yellow and orange? Done. Or maybe mix both and build a black and orange case? They can do that too.
Best part of all? This ultra level of customization is available for only $69.95 and delivery happens in about two weeks.
If you like the case make sure you take advantage of the amazing promotion Shinnorie has going on from now until the end of the year. We told you about it here. If you buy a Leather Flip Case you get a second case for half off. Or if you buy one of Shinnorie’s laptop bags (which I’ll be reviewing later this week) you get a Leather Flip case for free!
You can learn about the case and the promotion by visiting the Shinnorie web site.
M.S.R.P. - $69.95
What I like – allows you to fully customize your own case at an affordable price.
What I don’t like - can’t see who’s calling without opening flap.
