Woot.com, is a very popular, ‘deal a day’ website that is known for having great prices for one item per day. They stay on sale from midnight (West Coast Time) until midnight the next day or until they run out of stock. Products tend to lean toward tech such as GPS, computers, etc but a variety is out there.
Since starting they’ve added
- kids.woot.com for kids oriented stuff
- sellout.woot.com which is basically a second daily deal but done in conjunction with Yahoo!.
- wine.woot.com … Self explanatory
- shirt.woot.com for daily cool shirts
There are numerous copycat websites, although none seem to have the quality of the deal they have and they don’t have the sense of humor woot does in their product listings.
Even ebay recently got into the act at deals.ebay.com and “Gold Box” at Amazon.com.
Gold box is both woot and a ‘woot off.’ A woot off is when woot puts more than one item up for sale. They move through products on a scheduled basis or until they run out. This happens about 3 times per month at woot.
Now woot is beta testing with power users (Me
) a new site called deals.woot.com. You won’t be able to access it currently unless you are invited into the beta but it essentially a hybrid between, woot, sites like fatwallet.com and digg.
Deals are posted, and then voted up with the most popular deals on top. You can quickly look between Most Recent, day, week or month. They also have 5 sponsered deals per day where companies pay to be in that listing and an extra aggressive price is offered.
I’ve been playing with it and I think it will be a hit. It isn’t that relevant now with only a few hundred beta testers posting and voting, but once it’s opened up to the masses, I think it could jump to the top of the deal finding websites.
