While the majority of my music studio history is on the Mac, during the early ‘digital audio workstation’ days I became a big fan of Cakewalk based on their feature-packed software. The company has continued to grow and innovate, and has just announced a cool sounding new product in conjunction with another industry heavyweight, Roland. The product is the V-Studio 100 Portable Music Production System, a full featured system at an entry-level price! Read on to see what the system offers!
Developed in conjunction with Roland Corporation, Cakewalk’s V-Studio 100 (see image below) is a compact, fully loaded portable music production studio that lets musicians create, record, produce, and perform music with or without a computer.
It integrates a USB 2.0 Audio Interface and four crucial tools for the musician: a DAW Controller, Digital Mixer, SD Recorder, and VS Production software. It’s the perfect tool for artists who want to record anytime, anywhere and not be tethered to a computer. However, the VS-100 is Mac & Windows compatible and works with all the major DAWs for those who rather work in the comforts of their studio.
For $699 (street price), it provides a professional recording tool for the same price as just a few hours of studio time. It fits perfectly in a gig bag and has a rugged construction able to withstand the rigors of the road.
Perhaps more intriguing, is that you don’t have to be a professional musician to enjoy the V-Studio 100. For the podcaster or music archivist, it’s a high-quality digital recorder! The V-Studio 100 offers a variety of input connections making it easier to plug in your microphone and start recording interviews, voice-overs and news beats on the fly. You can also use the V-Studio 100 as an audio interface to convert your old cassettes and vinyl albums to digital format.
Depending on what you’re working on, the V-Studio 100 is a great fit for audio gadget enthusiasts and recording musicians.
For more info head over to Cakewalk’s V-Studio 100 Site!
The system is available online from Sweetwater Sound for $699. I’ve gotten a ton of stuff from them through the years and they have always been helpful when I had a question – so if you are interested give them a call and chat up one of their knowledgeable folks!
