Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! Now we begin the ‘post MW2 period of the season. But while many games were moved to get out of the way of the big release, we still have good stuff, most notably Left 4 Dead 2. This game was the subject of a big boycott effort because some felt not enough DLC was released and the sequel came too soon. Have they never played Madden? Anyway, the game looks great and personally I can’t wait for an excuse to get back to more zombie-killing madness!

Other than that, and the actual arrival of King’s Bounty: Armored Princess, the most remarkable thing is that the PSP has the biggest release week since … well, I can’t remember when. It gets the platform-specific Assassin’s Creed: Bloodline and the port of the classic LittleBigPlanet, as well as a bunch of other fine releases! There are actually plenty of solid releases I haven’t mentioned, so check out the list!

Some notes from last week:

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
  • - The X360 and PS3 offer an excellent experience, but as I predicted the PC version is severely lacking. Review scores early on are inflated compared to what we are starting to see.

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex
  • - Solid shooter based on the original Modern Warfare game.

What games am I playing now? Well, at this point I am STILL saturated with a growing backlog … but here are a couple:

  • PC: Dragon Age: Origins – while I have seen some flaws, this is still one of teh most amazing games in years.
  • PC: Torchlight – a fun little casual RPG from the makers of Fate and Hellgate: London (they’d rather point back to Diablo), this is a blast but might be a bit thin in terms of overall experience.
  • PSP: Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron – this game is sadly a disappointment, but I am still having fun with it.
  • DS: Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road – who knew … a great RPG based on the classic Frank Baum story!

So what are you playing? Chime in below!

Enjoy gaming!

Mobile Technology has played a major role in my life - I have used an electronic companion since the HP95LX more than 20 years ago, and have been a 'Laptop First' person since my Compaq LTE Lite 3/20 and Powerbook 170 back in 1991! As an avid gamer and gadget-junkie I was constantly asked for my opinions on new technology, which led to writing small blurbs ... and eventually becoming a reviewer many years ago.
