Posted on 18 November 2009 by

The iPhone is constantly getting knocked for its inability to run applications in the background.

Well if you’re jailbroken have I got the solution for you.

Check out this video on three applications that when run together make for the ultimate background running experience.

Special thanks to Patrick at Just Another iPhone Blog for the heads up about mQuickDo.

If you’re interested in the applications shown in the video – mQuickDo, Backgrounder, Notifier.

Great post! (and another compelling reason to JB the iPhone). I was using backgrounder, but not in conjunction with mquickdo or Notifier. Very cool.

    Larry- GREAT video walk-through.

Your email about this got me to jailbreak again and I must say- this is already the most valuable combination of apps I have on my iPhone. They remove so many of the complaints that I had. AWESOME. The lock-screen apps are especially useful.

    Thanks!!!

I am looking for suggestions to jail break my iPhone 3G again.
I updated to 3.1.2 and tried using blackra1n but was unsuccessful
so many times I gave up. I got tired of having to restore my phone
    after every failure.
I miss my jailbreak soooo badly i hate the iPhone as is.
I’m condidering moving to Verizon’s reliable network and going
with the Droid because of it.
Could anyone help me get my phone jailbroken again.
    Thanks

Nice work Larry. I would even be tempted to get an iphone if it weren’t exclusive to AT&T. The pre backgrounds much more elegantly but the app selection doesn’t compare.

any idea on how these programs running affect the battery life?

  • Larry Greenberg

thepella – for certain they drain it faster but so far it has not been a major issue for me.

I continually get an error message stating:
We apologize for the inconvenience, but SpringBoard has just crashed.

MobileSubstrate /did not/ cause this problem: it has protected you from it.

Your device is now running in Safe Mode. All extenstions that support this safety system are disabled.

Reboot (or restart SprinigBoard) to return to the normal mode, To return to the dialog touch the status bar.

    OK Restart Help

Any idea why this keeps happening or how I can fix this issue?

  • Larry Greenberg

@Jewelzz – if you have SBSettings installed you can use it to turn off all items running in mobile substrate. Then respring and see if you’re ok. Then start turning on each item one by one to see what causes the issue.

I don’t have SBSettings installed. I’ll have to do a lil more research on this it seems. Thanks for the reply Larry
