I want an Apple Tablet. I really do! For years I used a Tablet PC and found them to be remarkably useful. I made the move to Mac and left the tablets behind but lately have been longing to get back into that world. And if I do, what would be better than doing so with whatever innovative approach Apple might bring??
Problem is, the only REAL thing about the Apple Tablet until now is the proliferation of rumors — rumors that have thus far been shown to be wrong. Time after time the rumor-mill says something that sounds definitive only to have it not materialize. Most recently are the reports that it has, yet again, been pushed back by a year so that Apple can bring OLED screens. Oh, and the price is reported to jump to $2000 as a result. (With a “base model” at $800 – $1000.
Well I may be LESS interested in the “iTab” if this other new device materials next month.

A company called Camangi is reported to be bringing a 7″ tablet that runs Android to market next month. The WebStation is said to have a 7″glass touchscreen serving up 800×480 resolution. It also brings a 2MP camera and a .3MP webcam, Bluetooth, WiFi and more.
Sure it isn’t the most tricked-out tablet concept we have seen, but at a claimed price of $400 it is nothing to sneeze at either.
The company says it will be out in the next few weeks. They are even offering a signup page so you can be notified when it is available.
My experience with the Archos 5 proved to me that, when combined with the Android OS, the slate form-factor is quite attractive — so long as the hardware is properly executed! Mix in the recent availability of eReader for Android, and you may just have a killer combination.
Here’s a video of the device in action.
Let’s just hope it isn’t vaporware. If it isn’t, as Larry said to me when he brought this device to my attention the other day, “I know what my next gadget is!!!”
