It wasn’t really all that exciting, but here is my Black Friday story.  First, I got up about an hour later than I wanted to, and missed some of the things I wanted to get, but I am very thankful that I did!  From what I understand, even if you showed up at my first stop, Wal-Mart, you likely would not have been able to get some of the Black Friday deals.  Evidently a lot of people showed up at Wal-Mart at midnight, loaded up their carts, and hung around until the price changes started at 5 am.  Even so, when I got there around 6 am, there will still lines for the $69.00 Kodak Camera at the photo center, and when I first got there the lines were HUGE.  I am so glad I missed the 5 am rush, as I would have still been in line at the time I finally did get to the store.

My haul at Wal-Mart didn’t even have too many of the advertised deals.  I bought a coat for myself for $15, one for my son (Luke) for $7 and a couple of toys for him as well.

Next stop was Target.  I decided to take my chances there, even though I thought most of the door busters were gone.  However, my luck prevailed and I was able to score a Western Digital Elements 1 TB External USB drive for a measly $59.  In fact, it was the last one they had.  For some reason they have the MyBook pictured in the link which is the wrong drive, as mine looks more utilitarian; this was my best tech deal of the day.

I also picked up some more toys for Luke.  I won’t say which ones, but if you know elementary school boys, Bakugan and Mario are the two running themes.  (No Luke, I didn’t get you Wii games!)

I next went to Big Lots.  This is a store that has overstock items from other stores; it’s their specialty.  Nothing they had interested me at this time, but I am sure I will be back before the end of the season.

My last stop before my rest period was Lowe’s.  I was aiming to get a new Christmas Tree.  This is my first artificial tree in many years, as I prefer the odor of a real tree.  I lucked out and got a tree for $38; it’s not the most realistic tree, but it will be okay — it was even prelit!

Next comes a important part.  A break!  I stopped at home, shared the purchases with my wife and took a nap.  Before we headed out as a family for some more shopping fun, I took a shower and rinsed off the sweat of the early day.  I felt so much better and re-energized.

First we had some errands to run that didn’t revolve around Black Friday, but then we hit Sam’s Club.

We walked around and perused the tremendously big boxes of ornaments and other Christmas goodies.  If you have a big Texas sized Christmas tree and not enough ornaments, go here.

We also looked at video games and decided to get Wii Fit Plus which was only $88.88.  Wal-Mart had it for $99 so this was a decent deal.  Then I looked at the memory cards but passed.  They had a 16 GB Toshiba Class 4 SDHC for only $24 and I decided to pass.  I’d have jumped if it was a class 6.

We hit Wal-Mart once more, but it was a different Wal-Mart than I went to earlier.  All the deals were done with for the day, but I picked up a interesting Tea Ball and a few various things, but no more gifts.

We headed home after grabbing dinner at Steak and Shake.  I was particularly tired, so we all relaxed and rested from a long and fruitful day.  While we are far from done with Christmas shopping, this is merely the beginning of the Season and there’s still 26 days left until the big day.
