Well this is a first for us, too — so don’t look quite so surprised. ;-)

As some of you may know, Gear Diary team member Travis Ehrlich is coach of the Falls City Beavers, a Texas high school football team that is in the running to go all the way to State. Tonight they are working there way to the Texas State Quarter Finals, and we thought it would be fun to share a little bit of our famed “Friday Night Lights” with you, albeit on a Saturday.

Here’s the message I received from Travis …

My team is now 12-0 after winning the Area Championship game on the last play of the game in over time last week. It was crazy. We stormed the field and piled up and all that good stuff.

We play the Chilton Pirates this Saturday at 7:00 in Bastrop TX. There are 16 teams left in the state and all of us are really good. Chilton has some of the best athletes in the state in our classification. Their running back is the back to back state champion in the long and triple jump and can triple jump 50 feet! He is what us coaches call explosive! My defense has a tough task at hand. On Saturday night, send me some mojo as we attempt to reach the State Quarter Finals for a second straight year. I have been to that level twice as a coach and once as a player, never advancing to the Semi-Finals. I hope to have a shot at it again after this week.
