T-Mobile offers a new “Complete” cell phone package

Posted on 19 November 2009

With Project Dark now shown the light, we thought T-Mobile would be keeping things on the down-low for a bit until the new line of Christmas phones would be coming out.  Not so. T-Mobile has launched a new program called T-Mobile Complete.  With T-Mobile Complete, interested folks can pick from four cell phones, including a Blackberry CUrve 8520, pick their plan, and away they go.  This is the first time we have seen a prepaid Balckberry from these guys.  Phones will start from $60 with plans starting from $50/month. No information is up yet on T-Mobile’s web site, but it won’t take long for them to remedy that. It will be interesting to see if buyers will take the gamble on T-Mobile, especially with all the buzz surrounding Verizon and the Droid.  T-Mobile definitely has an advantage with the best customer service rating of all the carriers, but will that give enough people cause to give them a try.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Where Can You Get The Latest & Greatest PSP Games? Not on the PSP Go!

Posted on 19 November 2009

This has been a while in coming … since the launch of the PSP Go I have been annoyed that many games are coming out on UMD but not on the PSN Store, and many that DO come out are a few days or even a couple of weeks later. Certainly none of them are on sale, whereas Amazon had the wonderful new Half Minute Hero for 1/3 off the other day! Of course, that game also took 2 weeks to transition from UMD to PSN after release. OK … but those are all third party games and Sony has to negotiate with publishers to get them to release digital copies.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Review: Rescue Razzle for iPhone OS

Posted on 19 November 2009

Sunstorm Interactive is at it again with a new game for the iPhone OS.  The company is quickly becoming one of my favorite game developers for the iPhone OS.  With titles at only 99 cents a piece many of them are finding a permanent place on my phone. Rescue Razzle is a brainteasing, puzzle game where you are charged with rescuing a helpless rat named Razzle. Razzle is stuck inside a cage at the top of pyramid of wooden crates and other cages.  The goal is to remove all the surrounding items allowing Razzle to safely to the ground. It’s simple concept but one that gets progressively more challenging as you move up through the game’s levels.  Sunstorm was kind enough to give me a copy of Rescue Razzle to review.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

State of the Union- Google Chrome OS

Posted on 19 November 2009

As was mentioned here yesterday, today was the  big developer and press Google Chrome OS event.  Today was the day Google pulled back the curtain and let the blogsphere know about the mystery that is the new Chrome OS platform. Early adopters and developers alike can grab a copy of the  source code today to play with.  It has been released as open source.  So, if you really really wanted,  you could build your own Chrome OS.  Those of us who don’t have those mad skillz we will have to wait until late 2010.  I am sensing it will be a Google Chrome OS Christmas next year. So what is Chrome OS really?  Well, from what was said and shown at the event, this isnt your mother’s operating system.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Toshiba Satellite T135-S1309 – Windows 7 Notebook Review

Posted on 19 November 2009

I was at Best Buy looking for a laptop for one of my colleagues. She needs something powerful enough to create flyers, documents etc but also light enough to carry with ease. Good battery life was a must. An optical drive was not. The other requirement? It had to be inexpensive. In the end I picked up a Toshiba Satellite T135 for her. It weights under 4 pounds, is powerful enough to do everything she needs and was under $550. Here’s a look… The Toshiba Satellite T135 is available at Best Buy for $549.99. What I Like: Thin, Light, Comfortable Keyboard, Decent Screen, Inexpensive… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

The Ugly BlackBerry Memory Problem

Posted on 19 November 2009

It’s easy to get excited over the many announcements made during last week’s BlackBerry Developer Conference.  The second annual event unleashed big news for the platform.  Everything from more talk on a forthcoming WebKit browser to real 3D gaming to support for Flash and vastly improved developer tools to create a wider variety of applications. Mobile developers took notice.  RIM is actively looking to help anyone wanting to design applications for their devices. The big question, though, remains:  just how will these new services  actually run on a BlackBerry? Is it possible to run 3D gaming, Flash, etc. on a BlackBerry’s limited device memory without causing memory leaks, forcing users to reboot the device? Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Livescribe’s Pulse Pen Gets App Store

Posted on 18 November 2009

It seems like everyone has an App Store these days. And why not? As Apple has shown, great apps extend the power and functionality of a good device into realms no one could ever have dreamed. Not wanting to be left out of the “App-Parade”… Livescribe has just announced the beta launch of their own application store. The store will provide Livescribe users… with the ability to download more than 30 paid and free applications, which extend the functionality of the Pulse smartpen beyond its core feature of recording and linking audio to handwriting. Applications range from productivity and reference tools to games and entertainment to travel and education. The initial releases are nothing too too exciting. They include a few versions of Hangman, a “Sexy Oracle” (don’t ask!) and a series of apps to help with the traditional chanting of the Hebrew Bible (called Magic Yad: Hebrew Chanting Made Easy). Still, it is great to see the functionality of this awesome device extended through the addition of apps. I love my Pulse Smartpen and use it every day. The added functionality some of these apps can potentially bring will only make a great product better. The full release follows. Pulse [...]

Look out world, here comes Chrome OS!

Posted on 18 November 2009

The blogsphere is all a twitter (yeah, sorry about the pun) about the launch tomorrow of the new Google operating system Chrome. While the actual OS  won’t be launching tomorrow, Google is having an event that will allow tech insiders to get a their first real glance at this new cloud operating system. We have all heard the rumors and the snippets of screenshots here and there, but this time, we get to see something concrete. According to the invitation, Google’s vice president of Product Management, Sundar Pichai, will be speaking, along with Google’s engineering director for Chrome OS, Matthew… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

iPhone Game Review: Commodore 64 Emulator

Posted on 18 November 2009

I love classic games of all sorts. I still occasionally replay my copy of the original 1981 Castle Wolfenstein through an emulator and have always loved playing arcade games when the arcade collections are released. So when I heard that a Commodore 64 game emulation system was coming to the iTunes App Store, I was thrilled. Of course, that joy was short-lived as the app was approved but quickly pulled due to an exploit that allowed BASIC to run and potentially allow harmful code to execute (I know, I know, but still …). Anyway, recently Manomio have announced that a new version, stripped of any ability to run BASIC, has been re-released on the App Store! They provided us with a review code to test. Let’s take a look!… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
