Last weekend I had the opportunity to be part of a small group of tech bloggers invited to attend several Windows 7 launch events in New York and Washington DC. I wasn’t totally clear on exactly what we would be doing on this trip before going, but I figured no matter what, it would be fun and the food would be good. I was right… Thursday Tripit is my Friend Travel is almost always an adventure when flying out of San Angelo Regional Airport, and this time was no exception. My 9:05 a.m. flight was delayed, but at least I found out about it a full five minutes before it was announced (and was… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

If you know Element is something other than iron and aluminum, and that Zoo York isn’t a tough neighborhood in the Bronx, and that Ollie isn’t a character from Popeye … then chances are either you or one of you kids is well acquainted with the world of skateboarding! Anyone who has played Wii games such as Skate It knows that while the Wii balance board is a great controller, it lacks a certain ‘something’ in terms of emulating the action of the skateboard. Thrustmaster announces a controller that augments the balance board to produce the most realistic possible skateboarding experience!… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

The AT&T Navigator app is a great way to bring voice navigation to your iPhone (or other supported devices). The app is fast, accurate and, thanks to a recent update, you can listen to music while using the app and have the music fade when new directions are being given. Telenav, the developers of the app, offered three one year subscriptions to the service. We are grateful to them for the opportunity to share these three subscriptions with some of our readers. And the three winners are…… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

To watch the commercials for the Verizon Droid, being released tomorrow morning, one might get the impression that this is the very first android handset to be released. It certainly has garnered more attention and excitement and previous devices, but there are already a number of android handsets on the market that are actually quite good. I recently had a chance to spend a week with Sprint’s version of the HTC hero, and I found myself more than a bit impressed. So with that in mind, I thought we might take a good look at a fantastic Android device that’s been on the market for a number of months already.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Question- what is the same thickness as the iPhone 3GS but offers full notebook functionality. Answer- the Dell Adamo XPS. (It is actually thinner in places.) The Adamo XPS is one of the more unusual notebooks designs we have ever seen. It is remarkably thin, has an unusual mechanism for unlocking the device and a design that is eye-catching. , I’m a big fan of getting outside and walking. I find that listening to music or podcasts helps to pass the time, so like most people with MP3 players I always take my iPhone or Zune HD with me. I have recently started carrying my Zune HD because I love Zune Pass, which provides for nearly unlimited music downloads and automatically creates artist mixes – even from music I don’t own. WaterField’s new suede jacket is the perfect fit for my Zune HD. It’s thin enough to act as a shield and fits inside other WaterField cases.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

To say the DROID’s release is highly anticipated would be an understatement. Marketing has gone into overdrive for this handset, making us wonder why there’s no big love for the Eris (yes, they’ll appeal to different users — and the Eris is running Android 1.5, at least for now, but the Eris looks just as capable for anyone who prefers the Sense UI versus the DROID’s Android 2.0 interface). So Verizon customers looking to finally wield a smartphone that won’t shame them when they’re out and about with their iPhone-toting friends have tomorrow marked and ready. Heck, even the impatient could have pre-ordered it already from Best Buy (and, if you really, REALLY, want a DROID but just don’t feel like hoofing it over to your local Verizon store in the morning you can order one straight from Wirefly beginning at midnight tonight). But what about the corporate user? Should you (and your IT department) be putting the DROID on your company network? Sure, Android 2.0 now natively supports MS Exchange. Oh, but before you run out to pick up your very own DROID, and then expect to be using it for work you may want to take note [...]

I saw this printer in action in a New York Best Buy last week, and I have to say that it was nothing short of cool. You can get and print maps, recipes, coupons, purchase movie tickets, and do all kinds of other things – directly from the touch panel front of this web connected beast of a printer. Granted, you could do the same from your computer, but being able to do these things without booting up the ol’ desktop is a pretty cool feature; plus the printer itself is pretty nice. The regular price is $399.99, but you can get yours for $339.99 with free shipping. Not bad… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Amazon has this Garmin Nuvifone G60 available for $99 after the obligatory 2 year service agreement. The phone’s primarily for Garmin lovers who prefer the interface of their beloved GPS device over competing smartphone’s with similar (free) services. The 3.5-inch anti-glare, resistive touchscreen display is big enough to easily see your maps – and there’s 65K colors and 272 x 480 WQVGA resolution. Given that some of the early Droid reviews have given meh reviews to the map feature maybe the Garmin will have a fighting chance competing against free.
