BonScale: Weigh Your Bags Before You Travel

Posted on 23 November 2009

It does not matter if air travel is for business or personal reasons, the airlines are continually adding stringent rules for passengers.  Rising fuel costs and slower business has spurred the changes as the airlines are attempting to cut costs while trying to keep prices competitive.  Among these issues is luggage weight.  How many times have passengers had to repack their luggage to adjust the weight of carry on bags?  For those who have experienced this inconvenience the stress of travel is much higher.  Lanterscale has developed a personal solution to luggage weight issues with the BonScale.  The personal scale allows the user to accurately and conveniently weigh their bags before checking in at the airport.    Check out this new product after the break.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

New Redbox iPhone App Gets You Promo Codes

Posted on 23 November 2009

In this recessionary, downsizing, jobs-loss economy, we all need to cut back a bit.  No more dinners out; Netflix or Redbox instead of a night at the movies; staying home to watch The Game on TV instead of shelling out a wad to see it in person.  Getting the regular milk instead of the organic.  Fish ‘n Chips instead of grilled salmon.  Hell, even clipping coupons.  Virtual or otherwise. “Clipping coupons,” did I say?  Indeedly-doodly.  And right in that zone comes a new iPhone app by Neese products, the “Red Box Free Rental Promo Codes” application.  Which, as you might imagine, helps you find promo codes.  According to the Neese folks the app, “serves up money-saving promo codes for the popular Redbox video rental self-service kiosks found nationwide.” So instead of clipping coupons, or looking up promo codes online, you can download this application for $0.99, and get the codes delivered to your iPhone twice a day.  If you’re a regular Redbox consumer, that’s not a bad deal at all.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Wireless Waterproof Borescope: Be Like Bryce

Posted on 23 November 2009

“Let me get my borescope!” If you need to poke into an ancient artifact to discover what’s inside, or search through the walls of your great-grandpa’s dusty old house to find his lost will where he left everything to you, or you’re trying to look under the door into the hideout of criminal bomb-makers, what do you need?  Now you don’t have to be Lara Croft, bellowing for her tech geek Bryce.  Nope, you need a borescope! USBFever is now offering a wireless, waterproof borescope for all your remote viewing needs.  The USBFever ‘scope records on a standard SD card (up to 16 GB), has a color LCD monitor, nightvision via dimmable LCDs, and PAL TV output.  You don’t have to be funded by a major government to get you one; you just need to shell out $337 smackers to the folks at USBFever.  “A little steep,” you say?  Hey, this stuff cost Lara Croft a couple of million pounds 10 years ago; don’t you love modern technological progress? Full specs and info after the jump.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

First Impressions of the HTC HD2 Windows Phone

Posted on 22 November 2009

While at Mobius I had the opportunity to take a look at some of the cool phones other members were carrying. The iPhone 3G and 3GS were popular with many of us (that’s Alex‘s lovely wife gracing his iPhone’s screen), and the Motorola Droid (that’s Vincent with his beautiful wife Lynnsie, on his) was popular with quite a few others — even if nearly all of them were complaining about its keyboard. But the phone that every one of us was salivating to hold was the new HTC HD2; John Starkweather was kind enough to allow us all a little bit of face time with his.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

GearGames Weekly: November 22 – 28

Posted on 22 November 2009

Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! Typically Thanksgiving week is the time to start to pump up sales of the stuff already released, NOT to release new stuff. And the thin release schedule this week confirms that! The nicely done Borderlands gets a first DLC add-on, and there are a few other minor releases.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

My Tablet Lust May Soon Be Sated – but Not By Apple

Posted on 22 November 2009

I want an Apple Tablet. I really do! For years I used a Tablet PC and found them to be remarkably useful. I made the move to Mac and left the tablets behind but lately have been longing to get back into that world. And if I do, what would be better than doing so with whatever innovative approach Apple might bring?? Problem is, the only REAL thing about the Apple Tablet until now is the proliferation of rumors — rumors that have thus far been shown to be wrong. Time after time the rumor-mill says something that sounds definitive only to have it not materialize. Most recently are the reports that it has, yet again, been pushed back by a year so that Apple can bring OLED screens. Oh, and the price is reported to jump to $2000 as a result. (With a “base model” at $800 – $1000. Well I may be LESS interested in the “iTab” if this other new device materials next month.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Toyota offering Techstream Lite for tuners/tinkerers

Posted on 22 November 2009

The days of getting grease on my hands may be over, but for many, forgoing the service drive at the dealership for an afternoon in the garage with the hood up is still a valuable, time-honored (and for some, necessary) tradition. I still have a chain embedded in the limb of a large shade tree behind my garage for such mechanical endeavors. For you import shadetree mechanics/tuners – Toyota/Lexus/Scion specifically – advanced help is on the way.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Google Calendar Concierge Service- A Gear Diary QuickTip

Posted on 22 November 2009

Here’s a quick tip about something I tend to take for granted. Each morning Google emails me my calendar for the day. Sure opening the calendar and looking at the schedule isn’t hard to do but there is something convenient about getting the daily schedule PUSHED to you. I especially like it since my schedule tends to change quickly and what I THOUGHT it would look like can change in the last minutes of the prior work day. Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Posted on 22 November 2009

When the Magic Mouse came our last month I was rather excited. Finally Apple had brought some of the multi-touch magic I had grown to love to the iMac. Yeah! Elana picked one up hours after they were available, and I found that while far from perfect, It was a pretty nice accessory. I have grown more fond of it in the last three weeks. One thing about it truly amazed me. It was reported to get up to four months of battery life!! Well I don’t know about you but…… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
