eWallet

My “secure app” of choice is ilium’s eWallet. The app is easy to use, works great, has a nice interface and, best of all, truly keeps you important information safe. Now Ilium has released version 7.0 of the software. In addition  they are “reshaping the idea of how customers buy software”. Instead of buying  software for a specific device now customers will buy a license to the software and then be able to use it on any device they own. As they explain,

Now, for $19.95, you can use eWallet on any device we support. No extra versions. No extra purchases. When you buy eWallet it’s for you – not your device. And all existing eWallet users will be able to upgrade for just $10.00 to use eWallet on all supported devices!

Personally I think it is an awesome idea and I hope other developers follow their lead. Think about it… now I can use this awesome piece of software on my iPhone, Blackberry, Macs and netbook for one reasonable price. Awesome!

There is more eWallet news as well. The eWallet desktop software for Windows PCs has been rewritten from the ground up. It works great now and sets the stage for future updates for the software. Finally, they are making a preview version of eWallet for Mac OS X available to all owners of eWallet. This is just an advance preview of the Mac version but it will let Mac users lets users get a taste of what will be coming down the line.

It is great news from a great company about a great software title. You can read more over on the Ilium website and on their blog.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him.
