This is pure speculation but we can’t help but wonder if there will be a whole lot more nooks under the Christmas trees and menorahs this year than expected, now that a judge has denied the injunction request by Spring Designs against Barnes and Noble. We only say this because the timing of the shortage was more than a bit suspect. The other day, emails went out to people who has pre-ordered the devices in the morning, and by that same afternoon it was all over the web that there had been a “supply chain issue” which would prevent most devices from shipping until early in 2010.
It all seemed a bit too coincidental. Add to that the fact that the injunction was just rejected, which means the notification of delays came a few days before B&N even appeared before a judge, and you have the makings of some really interesting goings-on in the background. Of course we’ll never know exactly what has transpired, but if more people see their new Barnes & Noble e-book readers arriving before the end of this year, we’ll have a pretty good idea.
Regardless, it’s nice to see another player in the e-book market emerging and doing it so rapidly.
