Verizon Droid – Buy one get one free

I just spotted this awesome “be on the look out” deal from Wayne Schulz.

According to web site Phandroid, there’s a sale on Droid and Eris happening this weekend (12/4 to 12/7). Open a new line of service (also applies to anyone whose bought within the last 30 days) and get one free Droid or Eris smartphone with each regular one purchased. Requires the obvious new 2 year commitment (unsure whether this would work for upgrades) as well as $30 monthly Verizon data plan on each phone. The Droid is currently priced at $199 from Verizon while the Eris is $99 both of which presently require a $100 mail in rebate. Still on the fence about the Droid? Check out the Motorola Droid Discussion Forum which is exceptionally active with users discussing their experiences.

I’m always concerned for a device when I see it being offered as part of a Buy-One-Get-One.  Is this an indication that the Droid isn’t living up to all the hype?  I seem to remember the same thing happening with Verizon’s previous “iPhone-Killer”, the Blackberry Storm.

I have always had a passion for gear and gadgets. It all started for me with the release of the very first Palm Pilot. I've always had an interest in handheld electronics. From handheld PDAs, to cell phones, Mp3 players, watches and other products, I'm the first person my friends, family and colleagues call when they need advice on tech. I have roots in the online tech. forum community. I served as the Administrator to Howard Forums.com and as a Moderator at both Treo Central.com and Blackberry Forums.net. I don’t think so – when we were at the various VZW stores, more folks were walking out with Droids than any other single phone according to the manager at one place, which seemed in line with the amount we saw at the registers.

I think they are trying to capitalize on the popularity of the Droid to pull in more new subscribers and get the add-on data plan!
