Hungry for more nook news this weekend? Of course you are…

Engadget received a hands-on and some glamor shots from a tipster. No word on whether this was someone who received their nook early, or whether they had a pre-production unit. Hopefully it wasn’t the final shipping unit, since the big complaint was that the unit was very laggy, especially the lower color screen. Also, the tipster confirmed that in-store browsing would only be for an hour at a time, and that it would not be turned on until 2010. Which is too bad, but if you’ve ever been in a retail store around the holidays, I don’t think you’d decide that December 23rd was the best time to test your new nook’s browsing options.

Second, Barnes and Noble’s own Unbound blog has confirmed there will be in-store demo units at every Barnes and Noble on Monday, but no nooks for retail sale until January. There’s a Barnes and Noble by my office, so if I can break away on Monday I plan to confirm this claim!

Did you pre-order a nook? Are you stalking the UPS man until it arrives? If you’ve received your nook and you have any thoughts, share them below!

NQ Logic recommends reading about the e-books device and the inpact on the Book Publishing industry at http://www.nqlogic.com

The engadget content has been removed but I could've sworn they indicated the info and pics came from a tipster… they (engadget) had not received a demo model.

Can't go back and verify since B&N got engadget to remove the content & pics.

Yep, I saw the same thing, that they had a tipster. I wonder if whoever it was had a pre-production unit, since they complained about lag. Hopefully b&N fixed that in the shipping units.

    We'll find out in a few days…:)

If you have viewed the page before you can view it again using a little trick I figured out. By searching for “engadget nook” on Google and clicking “cached (next to the search result,” you will be able to view the page again even though there won’t be any pictures. Here is what the tipster said:

    · “The thing lags so much between the e-ink display and the Android touchscreen. All I want to do is use the e-ink display as touchscreen. It's nice to see the real book art, but it’s so tiny and laggy that I simply want to leave that screen as soon as I can.”
    · “In tiny text in the manual, it states that the in-store WiFi browsing will come in 2010. So your holiday product will work after the holiday. I guess that's okay for most of the masses because they'll be getting it in 2010 anyways.”
    · “I also can't remember if this is common knowledge, but you can only browse books cover-to-cover over B&N WiFi for an hour — Not the unlimited that was promised when it launched. I mean, people would just not buy stuff if that was the case, I suppose”

    P.S. – I’m using Google Chrome.
