Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! One thing I love is when a franchise is so strong that the publishers can release a game in a very weak period without gamers questioning the quality. This week we get the next entry in one of the great gaming franchises – The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks, out on the 8th for the Nintendo DS.

The other major releases are the next entry in the excellent episodic series Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 5: Rise of the Pirate God and a game that looks like it was simply dumped into the late season, The Saboteur. The latter is also getting some questionable DLC that in my opinion only reinforces the immature male stereotypes of gamers. There are a few other releases I haven’t mentioned, so check out the list!

Some notes from last week:

  • Rogue Warrior
  • - Really, really … really bad.

  • James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game
  • - Mediocre in general, which is surprisingly almost praise for a movie tie-in!

  • MX vs. ATV Reflex
  • - Solid off-road racing fun.

  • Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes
  • - Excellent puzzle RPG!

  • Elven Legacy: Magic
  • - Perhaps everyone else is like me and just barely staring this one, as there are no reviews yet.

What games am I playing now? Well, at this point I am STILL saturated with a growing backlog … but here are a couple:

  • PC: Dragon Age: Origins – yeah, still playing.
  • PC: Elven Legacy: Magic – the final part of the 3-part expansion is starting off wonderful just like the other two.
  • PSP: LittleBigPlanet – since I don’t have a PS3 I hadn’t played this … but naturally jumped at the PSP release once it hit the PSN.. It is a blast!
  • PSP: Assasin’s Creed: Bloodlines – my first impressions have not been good!
  • Mac: Avernum 6 – I have been beta-testing this since September, and can finally talk about it … it is a wonderfully done game that is massive and the best looking of Spiderweb’s games.

So what are you playing? Chime in below!

Enjoy gaming!

I have loved technology for as long as I can remember - and have been a computer gamer since the PDP-10! Mobile Technology has played a major role in my life - I have used an electronic companion since the HP95LX more than 20 years ago, and have been a 'Laptop First' person since my Compaq LTE Lite 3/20 and Powerbook 170 back in 1991! As an avid gamer and gadget-junkie I was constantly asked for my opinions on new technology, which led to writing small blurbs ... and eventually becoming a reviewer many years ago. My family is my biggest priority in life, and they alternate between loving and tolerating my gaming and gadget hobbies ... but ultimately benefits from the addition of technology to our lives!

Good games for the Xbox 360 come out only about every other month. I have to hope that the present game (COD 2) will hold my interest long enough.
