AT&T has released a new program for the iPhone called “AT&T Mark the Spot”. The purpose of the program is to help you, as an AT&T customer, report network outages, issues, and dead spots.

In this release AT&T makes it really simple to report problems. It will capture your GPS location or you can submit about a location not specifically where you are at.

The app has some basic things it wants to know: Is it a dropped call, failed call, no coverage, data failure, or poor voice quality problem? Does it happen once, seldom, often, or always? You can even add your own notes about the incident – something I’m very glad to see!

AT&T will even send you an SMS (text message) acknowledgment that your report was received.

Is this just a public relations move on AT&Ts part? Absolutely!

Will they actually act on this data – hard to say, but, nonetheless, I am glad to see them take an interest!

The app is available now for free over on the AppStore!

Wow, this will surely push the Apple appstore to 2 billion downloads within the next month. Now how could one not avoid an appstore that has served 2 billion downloads?

When will people realize size doesn't matter in appstore quantity or downloads–I mean even the diversity of apps is pretty low for 100K apps (lots of duplicates, especially international versions). It's not 1999, it's 2009: Quality over Quantity people…
