I’m an iPod kinda guy but even I can appreciate the appeal of the Zune HD. The hardware is slick, the screen is gorgeous and the ZunePass is an awesome deal. If you have a Zune no doubt you want to keep it in as close to pristine condition as possible. Speck’s PixelSkin is one great option!

Here’s a quick look and a chance to win one of two Speck PixelSkin cases for the ZuneHD.

Thoughts

Speck makes some of my favorite cases. A Speck Shell protects my MacBook Pro, I love the Speck PortPack I reviewed and depending on my mood it is more than likely my iPhone 3GS is protected by a Speck case at least half the time. Why do I like Speck’s cases? Simple- they come in a nice variety of styles, look good and do a super job of protecting my delicate electronics. The Speck PixelSkin for Zune HD is no exception.

The case is simply styled. It protects the back, side top and bottom. While in the case everything is protected except the screen. In addition the PixelSkin adds a great amount of gripiness to the device, making it even less likely that the device slip from your grip. If it does however the PixelSkin

The PixelSkin is available in black only and has an MSRP of $24.95.

What I Like:
Offers great protection

What Needs Improvement:
At $24.95 the case is not inexpensive

We have two Speck PixelSkins to give away. For a chance to win one simply leave a comment below telling us why you chose a Zune over an iPod.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen

I chose my Zune HD over an iPod touch for a number of reasons, firstly, too many people I know already have an iPod Touch and I wanted something different, the 32 Gb version is 10$ cheaper than a 32 Gb iPod Touch. I was surprised with YouTube reviews commenting on the screen quality and I love watching movies, so this was ideal for me.

I prefer the Zune HD's design over the iPod Touch, you know you are holding onto something and it feels sturdier and more long lasting. With the Speck Pixelskin, the Zune HD will be complete- having that added friction to prevent it sliding out of the hand. It is a great product, just like the iPod Touch- and no one will be disappointed if they purchase either of these.

Great review by the way, it seems like a great case, it'd be great if Speck came out with more colors for it.

Pure and simple. HD is why. HD radio doesn't hurt either.

    Thanks GD.

I chose a Zune over an iPod b/c feature wise, the Zune is better hardware. The sound quality is better, its OLED display is beautiful, it has a built in HD radio. The only thing it doesn't have is an app store, but I have faith that once Windows Mobile 7 comes out, we'll have an app store for both mobiles and Zunes.

The reason I chose zune over ipod was that it had a built in radio and could customize the background(I am all about customization).I also like the zune software, it is easy just to jump right into and make changes to your music collection(metadata) And then you have itunes that was like looking at a spreadsheet and hard to find settings you need without looking in the itunes software for 20 min.Dont get me wrong I was a big fan of my sexxy black 60gb ipod video but the zune just had somethings that I needed in a pmp.And not to forget the HD radio,720p HD output to tv,and a really powerful nvidea chipset under the hood for all of the games and apps that I really hope will come soon.

I chose the Zune HD for many reasons, including the display, the size, the Tegra chip performance, HD radio and the HD output.

I chose a Zune over an iPod because it's, well, spectacularly stylish. That much is clear. I love how small it is, and how easy it is to navigate the menus. I wasn't looking for a portable 'do everything'. I just wanted a portable entertainment media player and that's exactly what the Zune is. I'm a music lover and the Zune HD is specifically made to cater to my needs. The internet option and apps are a bonus to me, but they're a welcomed bonus and it's made me fall in love with the little device. I used to have an iPod Video and it was so chunky comparing it now to the Zune. Now the Zune HD can neatly slide into my pocket and be off without any discomfort. :)

I chose a zune hd over an Ipod because I wanted a music player for playing MUSIC. It has superb sound quality, great video/screen quality, responsive touchscreen and enough first party and third party apps to be satisfied all in a sexy form factor. It excels in the music, video, and picture areas and does a pretty good job with internet and apps. The ipod touch is doesn't really excel in one specific area besides internet browsing(not counting apps in general). That is why I initially bought it.
Of course Iv'e ran into a few unexpected treats. :)
Firstly, the zune software is a pleasure to use. It is so much more entertaining when your just doing normal things than ipod. Secondly, the Zune hd's UI is so smooth and beautiful. Its simply amazing. Last but not least, the zune pass is so great and has completely transformed and widened my listening experience. I think I have explained everything pretty well. However I do need a nice case to protect it…………………. ?
