Quick Look: Bevy for Mac

Posted on 14 December 2009 by

There are a variety of application launchers available for the Mac OS but Bevy has to be one of the coolest.

Press a key combo on your Mac’s keypad and get a visual look at every icon for all the applications you’ve got on your Mac.  Simply click on one to launch the app.  Don’t recognize the icon?  Hover the cursor over it and Bevy will tell you its name.

It has a variety of other really cool features as well.

Click on a letter and Bevy will show you all the apps which begin with that letter, hiding the ones that do not.  Or set a spot on your screen to activate Bevy and then instead of using the keyboard shortcut simply move the mouse cursor to that spot to activate it.

You can choose to exclude programs from Bevy’s display as well as set up folders for different applications, making Bevy really customizable.

Bevy is available here for $9.95 but there’s a free trial so you can give it a whirl before you buy.

I have always had a passion for gear and gadgets. It all started for me with the release of the very first Palm Pilot. I've always had an interest in handheld electronics. From handheld PDAs, to cell phones, Mp3 players, watches and other products, I'm the first person my friends, family and colleagues call when they need advice on tech. I have roots in the online tech. forum community. I served as the Administrator to Howard Forums.com and as a Moderator at both Treo Central.com and Blackberry Forums.net. Under the screen name “lgreenberg” I've amassed 50,000+ postings. I also manage my own YouTube channel under the user name larrygreenberg. I'm always eager to help.

I've been pretty happy with QuickSilver. It's free and I like to quickly type a few letters to open a program….Now if I had a Mac tablet ….like a big iPhone…this might be more interesting.
