Elagato Software, makers of EyeTV, the software which allows for streaming of your home TV over you iPhone, have released a substantial update to their desktop client.

The most important feature to iPhone users allows for the viewing of live and recorded television over a 3G connection.  Previously EyeTV, and all the other live TV streaming applications (HAVA, Slingbox, etc.) only worked over a WiFi connection.

The method for watching live TV over 3G involves using Safari to navigate to a special web site, https://live3g.eyetv.com/, where you then enter your EyeTV log in credentials.  Then in a few short moments your TV appears.

I just tested it all out and it worked exactly as described!

As an added bonus, web apps allow for the use of the iPhone’s video out capabilities.  This means you’ll be able to hook up your iPhone to a monitor or TV and view your own programming on the go, over 3G.

Read all about it here.

I have always had a passion for gear and gadgets. It all started for me with the release of the very first Palm Pilot. I've always had an interest in handheld electronics. From handheld PDAs, to cell phones, Mp3 players, watches and other products, I'm the first person my friends, family and colleagues call when they need advice on tech. I have roots in the online tech. forum community. I served as the Administrator to Howard Forums.com and as a Moderator at both Treo Central.com and Blackberry Forums.net.
